It seems that Tedd is currently experiencing the flip side of http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=146

Tedd's reason for this choice is inarguable - in both relational terms (his actual spur to the choice) and pragmatic terms (ID cards, school enrollment...) Whether it's the best choice is, nonetheless, unclear. Frankly, as genderfluid as Tedd appears to be, I'm not convinced that there is a "better" choice on anything other than pragmatic and relational grounds. And the pragmatic issues would be temporary.

I'd say it was more the flip side of these two....

I'm fairly sure that Tedd has just made the right decision for now. For the right reasons, too.

Elliot looks so smug in panel six. I agree with @ijuin - it's payback for http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=146.

    More Speculation.

Everyone's saying that a system change would make everyone lose the ability to use magic for a while until someone basically stumbles upon it again and learns the first spell of the new system. It's been heavily implied that Tedd would be the key to figuring out the new system faster should it change because his "dangerous rarity" apparently makes him immune to the system change and his magic insight would let him see the changes. I actually wonder how that would be possible, if everyone lost the ability to use magic for a while, for Tedd to see a spell being cast to decypher the new system. I'd like to propose the theory that Tedd is a natural wizard, and has been learning spells as he sees them like other wizards do, but even though the whale said he couldn't have spells of his own. that could just be that Tedd couldn't have spells under the current system. Basically what Tedd's been doing without realizing it, has been preparing himself for a system change, so that once it happens, it'll unlock those spells and instead of waiting for the first magic user to come along to look at their spells in action, Tedd will be the first magic user with an arsenal of spells ready to go. I'm not saying that Tedd would have been preprogramed with the new magic system years ahead of time, but that the nature of his abilities would automatically adjust Tedd's power to whatever the new system is should it happen. That's would be a proper failsafe for keeping magic from dying out because it guarantees at least 1 person with access to magic right off the bat.

Ah Dan, you old rascal you. You just love throwing another log on the roaring fire of Fan Shipping. Now we know that nothing will break Tedd and Grace up and we already have the One True Triad with Sarah. And true, there have always been the stalwart ones, who have help out hope for a Tedd Elliot pairing, but now... Starship TessElliot has roared out of the spaceport. Honestly though, is there some kind of diagramming language/symbology for Transgender Polyamorous Shipping? I'm sure we can chart the whole cast into some kind of linked whole based purely on who has blushed at who in canon comics.

Inspirational Elliot is inspiring. Knowing about the tenuous state of magic nearly returned Tedd to the mute stage. Now Tedd has a plan. A mission. A raison d'être. A Holy Grail worthy of an epic quest. A Hitchcock worthy McGuffin. An interesting hobby. A mad obsession. A quirk that makes the neighbors talk about Tedd in whispers. Too bad this plan doesn't come with a paycheck or academic credit. This could take a long (LLLLLLLOOOOOOOONNNNNNNGGGGGGG) time.

If the monologue in the commentary is certainly Tedd's train of thought, then it does confirm what I feel is what's causing the rift between her and Edward. All the excuses made for why Tedd transforms herself into a girl and such has made Edward think it's some side effect of using the TFG or that Tedd has some sort of kink about it, but that was all before Tedd realized the actual reason why she does it. Now she just needs to buckle down and tell him the truth.

As it does not solve anything, it is, by definition, not a solution. Can I just say something? The whole "dangerous pervert" angle is a red herring, and we have to dispense with it. Even the hypothetical you've presented - "could there be... probably" - is ridiculous. Not one person is going to attempt to pass themselves off as trans to gain access to other people in a restroom. It requires a lot of effort to present, and presentation will make you visible or notable, either because you do not pass, or because you perform femininity/masculinity to a prototypical level to pass. There are probably hundreds of ways to sneak a peek, and not one of them is going to be more difficult, nor expose the hypothetical pervert to greater risk of discovery and/or violence. The whole legal push against transfolk is not about public safety. It won't improve the safety of any restroom occupant. It does not address the incidents that do occur in restrooms. All it seeks to do, and all it does in real terms, is make a subset of the population more vulnerable.
