    Things You Find Amusing

It really makes me shake my head when stories and film have characters that are told prophecies that they will be killed by their child or by someone from a village or something, so they go out of their way to do anything they can to prevent it, but it's the act of doing so that causes the prophecy to be fulfilled. It makes me wonder is said "prophecies" are more like a test. Give a king or emperor a prophecy, see how they react, a good king may ignore it, or takes steps so that people don't have a reason to kill him, a bad king would go on a witch hunt and try to use fear to make people think twice about going against. Maybe the "prophecies" are fabricated by people who wish to manipulate the king, get him to act in ways that would benefit them, or provoke a war with another king.

When you have something, and then loose it, you sometimes don't realize how much you miss it until you get it back So, in honor of the Crazy Counting Guy in our Moperville-adjacent community, a tribute from another Crazy Counting Guy.

I'm back, ladies and gentlemen. When the thread was lost after the forum reboot and an old version was recovered, the amount of re-calculating that would have taken me was somewhat demoralizing, and I kept putting it off. Long story short, I ended up moving, losing the original count entirely, and never got around to starting up again. Well, I'm currently sitting around with nothing to do, have acquired some fancy new pens, and thought I'd try them out with a new-and-improved version of the character count. Improved for me, at least. Now each year's worth of appearances in my notebook will be color-coded. Neat! That does sort of mean I have to start over, which is actually more work than trying to pick up where I left off, but whatever. I'll be posting the counts one year at a time until I catch up. Here's 2002: Elliot: 136 (1st to 50, 1st to 100) Tedd: 127 (3rd to 50, 2nd to 100) Grace: 102 (4th to 50, 3rd to 100) Sarah: 91 (2nd to 50) Ellen: 52 (5th to 50) Greg: 41 Nanase: 37 Goo: 30 Susan: 28 Justin: 21 Mr. Verres: 16 Jeremy: 12 Tony: 9 Dr. Germahn: 6 Amanda: 5 MN Science Teacher: 5 Principal V: 5 TC: 4 Hedge: 4 Rat: 4 Matt: 4 Vlad: 3 Unusagi: 3 Travis-san: 3 Demonic Duck: 3 Beta Tedd: 3 Liz: 3 Damien: 2 Beta Ellen: 2 Guineas: 1 Mr. Dunkel: 1 Mrs. Dunkel: 1 "Ronin": 1 Screaming Girl: 1 Gen. Shade Tail: 1 Lord Tedd: 1 Bold denotes a member of the main cast. Obviously I don't need to indicate which characters made their debuts this year, as that would be all of them. That feature will begin in 2003.

My wife handed me the CD containing the CT scan of my foot from yesterday. I was able to find several breaks, but not all of the ones the podiatrist pointed out. However, I found one that he wasn't sure was a break. It's in one of the small, round bones below the second bone of the big toe, called a sesamoid bone. He said it would be extremely unusual if it were fractured—more likely, there was an injury to the surrounding tissue. If I read the CT scan correctly, the left sesamoid bone is broken clean in two. Yikes. He's going to have hell fixing things Friday.

    Things You Find Amusing

Oedipus gets a bum rap. He was separated from his parents at a very early age (due to a prophecy that he would kill his father the king), so he didn't know his biological mother and father. Years later some stranger attacked him on the road for no apparent reason, and he successfully defended himself from the murderous stranger. Continuing on his journey, he arrived at a city in crisis. In addition to said crisis, its king was missing and presumed dead, and had no heirs. He resolved the crisis and in exchange was offered the throne if he would marry the prior king's widow - whom he had never met before. He accepted the deal. Later he found out that the stranger who had attacked him was his father and the widow he had married was his mother. Which he got more than a bit upset about.

I consider myself lucky, between the age of 8 and I think 10 or 11, I had to see a psychiatrist every 3 months. I had been diagnosed with ADD and was being bullied frequently. she asked about school and how the other kids treated me, we played games like mastermind and crazy eights as well, I might have been too young to really think about it, but I do remember always enjoying the sessions. I don't recall what her opinion was of my situation though and it's been so long that I don't think my parents remember either.
