Unfortunately, I kind of agree. But it's still an awful situation. Tedd without a mother, thinking she left because he wasn't good enough (there is a conversation between he must have overheard as a child that led to him coming to that conclusion, at least I hope it was that and not Noriko saying something to him directly), or Tedd with a mother who either considers him not good enough or perhaps, crippled in some way, too vulnerable to keep in her life. She needed some serious counseling and I do confess to looking forward to seeing her reaction to discovering Tedd is a seer/wandmaker. Also, I wanted to address this bringing-Tedd-up-to-speed episode. I know that at times, I have grumbled (hopefully not too loudly) at the pace of important reveals to various people, especially Tedd, but honestly, without the build-up, these reveals wouldn't have had the dramatic impact. I mean, literally years in the making. And now, Pow, Tedd knows and we are shocked, surprised, elated that he knows the truth, want to give him hugs for the pain he's been through. Really, the drama in these scenes has been well earned. Kudos to Dan. -

If Noriko just couldn't get past Tedd's "magical impairment", to the point that she was scanning him so many times he developed a complex about it....then leaving may have been the best thing she could do for him. Better to be raised by one parent who could accept and support him, than to have a second parent in his life who was constantly disappointed in him and unable to hide the fact. Adrian may even have been the one who eventually told her this, thus being the reason there was no chance of Noriko and Edward reconciling -- because it would have been at Tedd's expense if they had. It's easy enough to say "Noriko should have just gotten over it and accepted Tedd as (she thought) he was, but if she just couldn't do it, then better to go. -

I think Pandora is also thinking the same though, like "this doesn't excuse how your mother treated you." The fact they they didn't know that Tedd was a Seer, and that even as a baby he had the power to resist scary sounding wand, doesn't instantly relieve them of wrongdoing. Edward might have just scanned once and left it at that, but Noriko basically tormented Tedd. It'd be like a nature photographer trying to get pictures of animals acting naturally while being in their face the whole time, they're not going to get natural acting that way. -

More Speculation.
ProfessorTomoe and one other reacted to The Old Hack for a post in a topic
It is probably been mentioned before but I am starting to suspect that the hidden second potential power Tedd has as a Seer is that if Magic does change... it will be his job not just to codify the new rules, but to make them. In other words, he would be the one to set up how magic works, how you can get it and what is possible to do with it and so forth. I find this speculation hilarious in that it creates the mental image of Noriko having to come back to the child she abandoned to beg for instructions in how to do magic again. -

I want to write something about Noriko back then but it would emerge purely in the form of obscenities and pejoratives. So I am withholding my opinion for now, hoping that new information will emerge that will make me despise her less. -

Cookies in general are not inherently magical, but Akiko has a cookie-based magic affinity. </sillyspec> -

I'm very worried about Tedd's reaction in panel seven. Not just because of his potential mental state, but because I don't think Pandora is the right person to help him through it. She knows someone who would be... but she might not think of calling Sarah until it's too late. -

Changing Medications (Level of Trust Required)
ProfessorTomoe reacted to Don Edwards for a post in a topic
An uncomfortable and unexpected change, with no known cause? Since it's sufficiently non-severe that you're taking time to ask, it is probably not ER-worthy. But doctor-worthy, sure, particularly if it persists for a few days or continues to grow. On the other hand, if you describe it to someone who actually knows something about medicine and they say "go to the ER", then do so. -

If you annoy animals enough, you are likely to get the most natural of all reactions I never understood the comment at the time, but when Sarah started working with Tedd, he confessed that one of his great fears was that his parents might have been wrong about him. -

This would not change the hilarity factor for me. Mind you, it would be a very bitter hilarity. In both cases. I am glad it is not me. I would most likely tell Noriko to take a flying dive. I am unfortunately capable of nursing resentment for a long, long time. -
1 pointDang, so he straight up resisted the wand. So just as Pandora said, he has power galore but has to empower a wand to be able to cast a spell? Unless it's his mark, I guess. Does that mean he started out awakened or does that not even make sense for him? As for Noriko, I am angry at what she did, but sad for her and Tedd. She missed out on getting to know Tedd and Tedd grew up thinking he was no good. But if Noriko isn't ready to see Tedd's value beyond being a wizard, he is better off without her in his life.

1 pointShe'd be speaking from experience though. She can't excuse her actions, but she's at least trying to make amends.

I would think that she possibly would anyway, even if Tedd can't create the new system, he could still teach people whatever the new system becomes, so she could still see that as enough reason to come back. -

Mph. A well-meaning transphobic parent can still do harm. But at least Edward cares. -

Given that it is fantasy that gives us the power to hug Tedd, it is also fantasy that gives us the power to bitch-slap Noriko. And since it is fantasy we can do so without reprecussion -
