Your lady was wise. Cats have six ends and five of them are sharp.

Languages can result in funny things at times. 'corn' meant 'horn'. 'Licorn' meant 'the horn', referring to a winged, horned horse. This went into another language and became 'Alicorn', where the 'a' was another definite article, resulting in 'The the horn.' Which means that anyone who in English refers to a specific alicorn ends up saying "The the the horn."

Some of the science fiction I've seen involving AIs often has it appear spontaneously from very large computer systems devised to operate in parallel. Good examples would be Skynet from the Terminator movies and Mycroft from Heinlein's The Moon is a Harsh Mistress. (Which last I highly recommend -- it is some of Heinlein's best work, I feel.)

Yeah ... and the most likely computer system AI can spontaneously evolve from this way is probably Google.
On the other hand, other science fictions have AI developing differently, with greater influence of chance ... like, sentience evolving in computer virus which was hiding in unreliable video RAM ...

Player/reviewer response to my music in Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour. It's better than I could have ever expected so far. This one seems to be getting the best responses (embed has music only, no video):

I found, in my big ass box of cables, a mini DVID to DVID adapter.  I no longer care when the freaking one from China being mailed gets here.  I now have bot monitors.  Only problem is (and this is really a #geekproblem) that a 20" portrait monitor is a little to tall to have the same angle of view for the whole monitor, which means that color and brightness isn't the same over the whole of the monitor.  This, however isn't that bad of an issue, due to the fact that it's my "look at a document in 100% letter sized paper monitor and where I keep tool bars that can be broken off some programs.  Gimp being really high on the list.

The ultimate orphan name of course is Ben McFitzson Jr.
That works out to be son of son of son of son of son.  It's also my generic sorta important male NPC name.  He normally lives on or near Mount Torhill.
Mlooney slaps /me's hand away from the list.  It's not a pun.  It's fun with multiple languages.  For reasons.

Humming mission impossible theme is also counterproductive.

When you are trying to not be noticed it probably helps not to make the Metal Gear alert noise.

Which means other people don't know just what to expect of any given fairydoll.
Which is a good thing, in combat.
Imagine: slice a fairydoll in half, it falls in pieces on the ground. Slice another one in half, it falls in pieces on the ground. Slice a third in half, BOOM! you're flat on your ass, stunned, and can't hear very well. You cautiously poke at a fourth fairydoll, and it throws a punch that breaks your sword. Maybe it's time for a different approach?

Given the circumstances, the closest equivalent is Dresden becoming the Winter Knight.

Which maybe would cast a slightly sinister vibe to the vow, if he quoted THAT Dresdennish mess.

Still. Sarah's got Tedd Experiments teaching her mad sciencery, whilst Pandora teaches her how to become a wizard...

She might NEED the time compression simulation magic simply to get the study time to gain power quickly.

Then her rule is assured. All hail Sarah, Witch-Scientist Queen Of America!

Nanase and Ellen use their magic enough everyday that being burned out after using the Guardian form might even mean they used less magic overall, taking Guardian form briefly and then using no magic after, than they would have if they'd just kept using magic normally instead.
If making a corporial fairydoll with permanence is such a powerful spell, maybe Nanase could chew up a good-sized portion of the magic build-up too.  And then open a doll shop to sell all the fairydolls she'd be left with.  She'd just have to figure out who to manifest a fairydoll in the presence of, keep them from seeing her, and then fly each doll to the shop before deactivating it and moving on to the next target. ;-)

I've been doubting the "crazy" part for a while now.  Not that she's completely sane, but really, no one is, and I'm starting to think she's no more crazy than anyone else in this world.  Perhaps Immortals going insane is frequent but not inevitable when they pass 200 years.  Perhaps she's held onto her sanity by holding on to the love of her family, and Immortals usually have to reset because they don't have mortal loves and children very often.  Or maybe there's just a certain personality type that copes with immortality better than typical.  I'll also note that Jerry didn't seem to show any sign of insanity, even though he admitted he was past 200 before his reset.

Their chief weapon is surprise after all, surprise and fear--their two weapons are fear and surprise and ruthless efficiency--their three weapons are fear, surprise, ruthless efficiency and an almost fanatic devotion to the Pope!  Their four....Amongst their weaponry...they'll come in again.

OK, we need to make a raid on TVTropes1 and remove all "Big Bad" references for Pandora.  Every thing we thought was her, other than the random markings, was Kentucky Fried Immortal.  All she was doing was making the world a better place for her son.  And once pointed out the error of her ways she changed.  Plus she likes Tedd, Elliot and Sarah, that we know of.  I actually suspect she likes all of the main 8 due to their relationship with Tedd.  And she hasn't said any thing about not liking Edward, just not to tell him some things.
My waifu .  Chaotic, but not evil.  Maybe even Chaotic good in D&D terms.

1Actually there are several things I want to correct on TVTropes, both for EGS and "The Whiteboard".  Might be my project for tomorrow.

I agree, but the question was whether political slays were permissible and where they should go, so I thought I should answer that. And I really liked that slay. It got even funnier when I inserted Danish politics in the first thought bubble. "It's across the Atlantic -- Canada may be far enough away!"
