If the prescription says "1 to 2 tablets per day" then for 30 days you'd need a maximum of 60 and I'd wonder why you got so many - that's more than a 2-month supply but less than 3 months. Now if the doc is thinking that you'll need 3 doses a day, 2 tabs each in the morning and mid-afternoon but only 1 before going to bed (because you'll presumably be asleep), that would work out to 150 pills a month. As it happens, my lady takes a 4mg hydromorphone 3 times a day and a 2mg in the middle of the night. Which is why I thought of the variant night-time dosage. (And she really wants to reduce the opiates further, and eventually get off them entirely, because she's realized that if she forgets a dose she goes into withdrawal within three hours.)

I would guess that sapient is even less desirable. (Sentience is commonplace - one can argue that apple trees are sentient, and Venus fly-traps definitely are. So are some single-cell organisms. Sapience is rarer - there is only one definitely-sapient species on the planet, and that one gets to define "sapience" to include itself. A relative handful of other species are suspected of possibly being sapient: some primates, some cetaceans, some cephalopods, the two species of elephant, some corvids, some parrots, prairie dogs, spotted hyenas...)

How about if, at the beginning of your turn, your piece is in the box rather than on the board? Or if you personally put your piece in the box? And the game is necessarily over if the board is returned to the box? (There isn't a box visible in any of the strips to date; I'm assuming it's there, just off camera or hidden behind someone. Or, perhaps, ANY box will do, as long as it's too small to contain the players.)

Even not understanding empathy doesn't mean that any given aberration couldn't recognize that it's something fairly common in humans, and allow that fact to influence his actions.

This is why we got our flu shots TODAY, before going to Tuscon (no that isn't a typo) the end of NEXT WEEK. (They normally recommend getting flu shots in early to mid October. Before it gets cold. We're spending the winter in southwest Arizona, where the concept does not apply.)

In other words, change one thing at a time. Makes it easier to be sure which thing your changing matters (or doesn't matter, as the case may be).

I am of the opinion that a person who is absolutely strictly heterosexual would find it unpleasant to participate in group/team activities with others of their own sex - without regard to what the activities are, but also even more so for activities where the norm is to be substantially but not completely dressed - such as basketball. (I think I'm closer to that position than most - perhaps even abnormally close - but not all the way there.) I'll also mention that given human evolutionary history, such a person would be at a distinct disadvantage. We're team survivors. Both sexes rely on cooperation with others of the same sex, as well as the obvious and less-obvious needs for the other sex.

In the context of three people who can (and two of them frequently do) change their own sex and two people who can change other people's sex, and several people who occasionally consent to have their sex changed, "straight" is a rather vague concept. Even without the magic, it becomes imprecise when dealing with people who aren't solidly cisgender. (Which I suspect is a lot more common than people think, because people who are agender or gender-neutral are reasonably likely to just accept their default gender assignment without question.) This can easily become a case of trying to force the terrain to fit a somewhat-inaccurate and low-detail map.

I've seen a d100. It's not far from being a sphere, and acts accordingly. I pulled a gag in a game once. I was playing a werewolf. First time during the session that I shifted to wolf form, I reached into my bag and pulled out a pair of huge fuzzy dice. (Unfortunately, I needed d10s and the only fuzzy dice I've ever seen are d6.)

My other thought is that with the game running to 8 points, and there being a probably-better-than-even chance that one of four players will score 8-9 points in just 3 turns, a game will be SHORT. So the impromptu hijinks related to the transformations must be more important than the game itself.

Menolly is hardly ordinary. (Neither is the Harper Hall.) Nerilka's Story comes closer to being about ordinary people but Nerilka is also hardly ordinary. (Fun: there's a minor character in Nerilka's Story, named Moreta. She's the title character of Moreta's Ride, where Nerilka shows up briefly in one scene.)

Yes, a few times, partial shots from the back. We did get a description of him once, though. A rather vague one. "He's a tall short man of medium height, clean-shaven with a full beard..."

I strongly suspect he has, more than once. However, as far as I can recall the most recent event that would be likely to tell Edward "it's time to RE-test Justin" was the fight with the fire guy outside the card shop. We haven't even seen the two together very often since the immediate aftermath of that event. And I think that might have been before he was even marked, let alone awakened. (My best argument for that being before he was marked is that I think Edward WOULD have tested him then, and as a result Justin would know whether he had a mark at that time; but at the card tournament, after he was already awakened, he didn't appear to be aware that he ever had been marked.)

FYI, Project Runway is pretty much the only thing I watch on TV. (My wife, on the other hand, has the TV on pretty much from the time she gets up until the time she goes to bed. And I can't escape the noise. Or having her talk to me about whatever's on, which I'm rarely even listening to so she has to explain everything to me... and half the shows she likes, I'd favor executing most of the people on them for being such horrible excuses for human beings.)

Badly thought out laws... in the US some years back there formed a notion that it would be better for parents to abandon unwanted newborn infants at hospitals or fire stations or other such places, as opposed to out in the woods or in a dumpster behind some restaurant, so laws were passed in a bunch of states allowing such abandonment (along with surrender of all parental rights) without legal penalty. One state neglected to put an age limit on the children thus abandoned. During the ten weeks before this oversight was corrected, 36 children who had already had their first birthday - and in quite a lot of cases their thirteenth as well - were abandoned in compliance with the deficient law. The oldest was 17. (But you do have to have some sympathy for the abandoning parent in that case - a recently-widowered father with nine minor children; he turned them all over to the state.) Six of those 36 children turned out to be legal residents of other states, so were sent back to their parents; presumably the suitable authorities of those states were notified.

Reasons for an asexual girl to have a boyfriend... Good reason: she isn't aromantic. Specifically, she's heteroromantic. Less-good reason: because at her age everyone expect it of her and she doesn't want to be seen as weird. (This is more likely to be true if SHE thinks she's weird and doesn't like it.) Both reasons can be true simultaneously. And there may be other reasons. Of course, it's entirely possible that Liz is entirely serious about what she said. She's going to meet people in college whom, if things don't work out between them, she can be reasonably confident of never seeing again. (Most effective if she goes to a college well outside commuting distance from Moperville.) There are few such people in Moperville High. (Yes, there ARE quite a few she'll never see again after high school... but identifying them before graduation is problematic in most cases.)

A rich Alpha Bitch would not be immune to the desire to have others demonstrate her dominance by bringing her gifts. And a less-than-rich Alpha Bitch can occur through sheer force of personality; most commonly, but not always, this person will be an oldest or youngest child in a large somewhat-dysfunctional family. On the other hand, a person who obviously has what it takes to be Alpha Bitch and obviously rejects the role (such as Susan) weakens the power of the role. This is good for other students who can't, or don't want to, play those games. Much the same is true on the male side, albeit manifesting slightly differently. Elliot, being obviously athletic (quite possibly one of the top athletes in the school) and apparently having little interest in school sports (plus having an obvious nerd and a couple of brainy non-cheerleader girls as his best friends), makes things a lot easier for non-jock/non-cheerleader schoolmates. Even without him making any effort to do so.

Or, alternatively, her plan to put off all discussion of her own sexuality until later... and then later... and then later... (Or maybe we're both right - it isn't as if asexuality is a common subject of discussion in high school, so she may be asexual and unaware that such a thing is even possible. In that case, she might think that she'll start getting those feelings in a few more years. Like, when she's in college. And in the meantime she doesn't want to talk about it because she's uncomfortable with being so different from the kids around her.)

Not just trucks. Aircraft, cars, explosives, incendiaries, and toxins. There was actually a bill before the Washington state legislature to blanket-ban unlicensed private ownership of substances that could be used to make explosives. One of the people testifying to the committee it was assigned to told them that he could walk into ANY of their houses and prove that they were in violation of this proposed law - that they ALL possessed such substances. The next witness, one of the lead guys on a bomb squad, started with "I don't know who that last guy is, but he knows what he's talking about." (The bill, thankfully, died.)

Florida? Hardly unique. My mother-in-law lives in the Target Range area of Missoula. There's a town in Texas named Point & Shoot. Not to far from the latter is a building with a sign out front: "Security First Baptist Church" - I'm working on a vague idea for a story where it makes sense for churches to be named like banks... (the reality, of course, is that the church is in the town of Security). Then in parts of Washington you get names that look like badly-transcribed Klingon. Such as Kuakuitl.

And a fair number of terrorist incidents have caused mass deaths without the use of guns. There seem to be differences of opinion about whether reducing gun homicides by 1 while increasing non-gun homicides by 2 is an improvement or not.

America (the continent) has been home to camels twice, although the second was rather brief. The first time was in the far north, and it appears the camel's hump originally evolved as a fatty energy store to help keep the animal alive through the arctic or near-arctic winter. Like horses, camels evolved on this continent first. The second time was in the deserts of the southwestern US, about the time of the US's "Civil War" (there ain't nuthin' civil about war), as an experiment by the US Army. The experiment didn't work very well, not because of any inherent defect but because horses and donkeys - which were far more numerous - hate and fear camels. They ARE direct competitors for food... and to this day it's the law in Nevada that a person with a camel must yield the right of way to a person with a horse. But as the experiment was given up on, a fair number of camels got loose or were released, and there continued to be a very-small camel population for decades. There are still occasional stories of wild-camel sightings in Mexico...
