  1. Changing Medications (Level of Trust Required)

Seems like if it's a good cup, it won't live long.
  2. NP Friday May 05 2017

    He was being hyperintellipygian.
  3. Story: Monday, May 8th, 2017

In Mamase's possible defense, I imagine that after Noriko left she angrily swore some oaths that she still feels bound by... and if she were to admit that Nanase's relationship with another girl is not "just a phase" those oaths would require her to throw her daughter out. She refuses to do that, therefore it must - as in, Mamase insists - be just a phase, and remain so at least until Nanase is established and stable in her own life outside Mamase's household. I have no evidence specifically in favor of this theory. But I think it fits what we know of her. Including her ability to recognize inconvenient truths and then completely ignore them.

I personally think Mr. V has never heard of genderfluid. Or maybe even transgender.
  5. The Recipe and Cooking Thread

Not so much a recipe... Throw a third of a cup or so of cottage cheese in a pan, add a couple tablespoons of curry powder, heat to a slow simmer. It's a great sauce for lots of things. If you have leftover sauce, the next morning scramble some eggs with it. ----- Also, if you like watermelon and your diet allows you to have it, take a quarter-melon and cut as follows: slice lengthwise, parallel to one of the flat faces, about 3/4 inch apart; then do the same thing parallel to the other flat face; then cut as close to the rind as you can. This produces a bunch of long pieces. (I'd prefer closer cuts, actually, but then the pieces that have lots of seeds tend to break.) Put these pieces on a hot grill to caramelize the sugars. Enjoy.
  6. Changing Medications (Level of Trust Required)

I think this may be the book referred to...
  7. Story: Friday May 5, 2017

That's about five billion years off, assuming nothing in particular happens in the meantime. Which is a bad assumption. About a billion years before then, the Milky Way and Andromeda Galaxies pass through each other. What will happen to the sun and earth in that process, is anyone's guess. (Direct collisions are unlikely. Galaxies consist of huge quantities of empty space with some clumps of stuff here and there. The distance from here to Proxima Centauri is 28.68 million times the diameter of the sun. That said, there almost certainly will be some direct collisions somewhere in the galaxies, and near-misses can make a serious mess of things.)
  8. Don't forget, that was Ellen's suggestion. Of course, there's the possibility - even greater than normal - of overlap between whom Elliot is attracted to and whom Ellen is attracted to.

Transgender and transvestite are definitely NOT the same thing. I also put drag queens in a separate category. Transvestites (want to) dress in opposite-sex clothing casually and don't want to be treated as weird or create a spectacle; drag queens dress in opposite-sex clothing for the purpose of creating a spectacle. There are also transvestites who, when they cross-dress, want to be seen as the sex they are dressed as, and in contrast those who want to be seen as the sex they are. And those who want strangers to see them as the sex they dress as, but expect friends to recognize them and treat them as the sex they are.

I believe if changing sex were cheap, easy, painless, and completely reversible, as it is with the TFG, quite a lot of people who aren't detectably genderfluid (but rather less than all of them) would try it once or twice, and a fraction of those would - infrequently - do so again under special circumstances such as a costume party. However, there are also gender-neutral and agender people who would casually change sex for short-term, possibly even momentary convenience. I think that Elliot was never far from that, considering how quickly he switched from the emotional "eek I'm female!" to the practical "how do I arrange to go to school this way?" the first time he got changed. And, of course, genderfluid people like Tedd. For Sam, it would be a godsend. I think Sarah is going to end up giving him a "watch". That would be a lot less unpleasant than sexual reassignment surgery, and also a lot more thorough - the surgery currently has rather restrictive limits on what it can do, particularly for FtM. Bi-gender and neutrois would be slightly more problematic. They'd need some custom form design work.

x-ray vision is somewhat less "interesting" than advertised...
  12. Things You Find Amusing

Tor is from not one comic but three: Nine to Nine, Swords and Sausages, and the now-completed College Catastrophe. Same crew producing them, mostly the same characters, but much different settings. And yes, in all three he's "seeing" a white fox chick. (For some value of "seeing" that may involve having his eyes closed for several hours.) Pip is from Sequential Art. And in general I agree with this character about him.
  13. Story: Monday May 1, 2017

I had assumed - reinforced by nT's impression that Ellen was trying to enchant him - that Ellen was trying to zap him into a less imposing, and probably less capable, female form. Which probably wouldn't have accomplished much, as (most likely) he could just re-enchant himself. But Ellen didn't know at the time that he was a self-transformed human.
  14. NP: Monday May 1, 2017

Meantime, we encounter this little problem with Grace's change-blindness play. Basically, the impropriety of asking her about her changes in the context of the comic-and-game shop. Particularly certain changes. "Hey, weren't your boobs bigger five minutes ago?" So really, she has very limited information on how many people notice the changes.
  15. NP: Monday May 1, 2017

If you assume that the boys are stationary (at least in the vertical direction), then the wall of comics behind them rose so much that its top is *above* where the ceiling had been. And the ceiling somehow moved out of the way. So either the boys are stationary and the building moved up, or the boys are descending. However, there is more than that going on. In panel 1, the space between the boys' heads has a darker comic on the left; in panel 2, it's on the right. Meanwhile, the comics seen between their shoulders retain the same relative colors.
  16. Story: Monday May 1, 2017

Given that these spellbooks apparently go into great detail, having a separate log containing the last few words of each page might well make it quite easy to detect when ANY change is made - and approximately where, if a new spell always starts a new page.

  18. More Speculation.

Self-isolating, I would think. A couple of young girls cosplaying cats were running away from their big sister, who was chasing them when her oversize sleeves fell and messed up her balance. A bit wierd, but not supernatural-type wierd. Just some children goofing off. (It helps that with them running, probably nobody got a really good look at them.)

Warn her, apologize in advance, and let her know you appreciate her. In fact, even when everything is going great, let her know you appreciate her.
  20. More Speculation.

One thing we can say with a fair degree of confidence: Arthur doesn't know just where the tipping point that triggers a magic reset is. Apparently even Pandora, who is almost certainly the oldest of the immortals, isn't old enough to fully remember the most recent reset. Archaeological finds are unlikely to be sufficiently detailed to pin down just how prevalent magic was just before the reset - or whether there might be other factors that affected the exact timing of the reset, allowing magic to become more (or less) prevalent after the reset is triggered but before it happened.
  21. Story: Wednesday April 26, 2017

Except that in some versions of the multiverse theory, every universe (and therefore every collection of those universal constants) that could exist, does. (Or, perhaps, did or will. Depending on how time relates from one universe to another.) Therefore, all the combinations that allow for star and planet formation exist. We think this one is special - and it is, to us - because we can see it. But somewhere out there is another planet inhabited by sapient beings. They refer to themselves as "us" and the place they live as "here", and they gaze at the stars and wonder if they are the only ones...

Quite a few prophets (deliberately not naming names or making any universal generalizations) are the result of falsified books...

What if Susan were to somehow become aware that Pandora was in her trunk checking out the contents?
