I've really enjoyed watching Dan's growing knowledge and depth of understanding about sexuality, gender identity, and how complex everyone can be.  As Dan has learned, so have we, and the world has changed so much in its understanding and acceptance.  I especially love that Dan now incorporates not only all the in-betweens, but the idea that individuals can change and evolve.  Whether you believe that people actually change or believe they learn more about how they've been all along, it's important to show that journey.  Tedd's learning about gender fluidity, Sarah reassessing where she is on the Kinsey scale, Elliot being "gender-meh" now, Susan realizing that doing things with men doesn't appeal to her any more than doing things with women....
Hooray for diversity, and hooray for characters who aren't static.

*Elliot takes his 7th top spot - the most by a margin of 2. Pandora makes the top 3 for the second year running (she was 3rd last year), and Grace and Nanase hit their lowest placements ever, at 13 and 17 respectively. Diane's 5th place finish makes me feel vindicated with my decision to include her as part of the main cast.
**Some might note that Ashley has not been bolded, despite me saying I was considering it. I still am, but she didn't have a huge banner year or anything that would make it absolutely necessary, so I think I'll sit on her a bit longer.
***Dang, there were a lot of one-strip-only appearances this year.
****Also, holy crap; I didn't even notice that Ellen passed Sarah again. The full count below has been modified to reflect this.

If she ends up with more appearances than Diane (who, to be honest, I probably jumped the gun on a bit), she'll force my hand and she'll have to by default. Otherwise, she'll need to go through the same process Diane did, which is to say: consistently appear regularly for several years in a row, demonstrate that she is going to be a continued participant in storylines going forward, and have more appearances than any other character outside the main group.
If she does all that, then when I make the end-of-year count, she could get her own color. And to be honest, it looks like that's going to happen.

Oh my god. I'm so exhausted. My work schedule this past month has been insane; you have no idea.

Anyway, I have leisure time again. Let's git 'r done.
