  1. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com My comic is having its annual contest, and EVERYONE gets some art in return! Either make some art or a game avatar based on my characters to enter! You can read more details by clicking on one of the attached images, and you can view the full rules by clicking on the button on my main page. Give it a try! It's loads of fun! Diligent readers may recognize that one of the two images is my announcement filler from last year, but with a new, introductory, 2-panel filler comic preceding it. Due to some family emergencies (and Valentine's Day), I wasn't able to get much work done on my comic until Friday night. And even then, I had to contend with another family emergency that had me driving around for a few hours until 1am, and some computer issues. But being the faithful comic creator that I am, I managed to stay up all night to finish this filler. True, I may have stayed awake more than 24 hours, but I haven't reached a delirious state of exhaustion or anythKUMQUATHIPPOPOTAMUSBOOGIEOOGIEOOGIE! ... I may need to lie down...
  2. 2/10/18 - Game Night Wallpaper

TheHeroesOfCRASH.com While I always strive to update my comic every single week, I tend to put some other aspects of my website on the back burner. No, I'm not talking about the Links pages - although I definitely AM working on adding some new sites to my Links - I mean my downloadable wallpapers. I find this particularly embarassing because most of my wallpapers have been prizes for my Annual Birthday Fan Art contest, and I tend to wait until the next contest comes around before I actually get around to creating the prize for the previous year. To be fair, it's usually because I try not to do too many filler updates in a row anymore, and I tend to have a few fillers around my birthday, but I still feel bad that I tend to make my contest winners wait. But that's in the past... Last year's winner has done enough waiting! CD Rudd, creator of SailorSun.Org (Check out my Links page for his site, along with a full description!), requested that I draw my characters doing whatever it is they do in their spare time. I decided that they do the same thing my friends and I do when we get together: eat pizza and play video games! I wanted to make sure all the characters looked interesting and dynamic; usually when you're playing games with friends, you're all sitting in the couch, controller in hand, and that's it. I decided to give everyone a different pose and a different controller (If Nintendo can make multiple controllers for a single console, so can I). Cannon - or rather, Dave - may not be wearing his big, clunky armor, but he does have a controller based off the N64 controller, but with his armor's color scheme (I'll bet it's one of those see-through controllers that I wish they still made. Also, Dave would totally rule at Mario Party, since his prosthetic hand can't get blisters from the Tug-of-War minigame). His pose is the most aggressive - albeit comedically so - of the three, which fits his personality quite well. Max may not be in his full Belt Boy gear, but he still wears his goggles (which just look cool) and his belt to help him snack without distractions (And yes, the design on his cup is based on a famous paper cup design, but with Belt Boy's uniform's red and blue hues). Max is holding a controller reminiscent of the classic SNES controller, even with its classic color scheme (The SNES was always one of my favorite consoles). Tiffany doesn't wear an outfit as Titanium Maiden; she just takes on the name, so she doesn't really have any costume change. The controllers are based of the Wii nunchucks, except they're two joined remotes without a joystick (and their color-scheme is based off another pizza-eating hero who uses nunchucks!), which shows off Tiffany's impressive biceps rather nicely. I've put some work into this background: look closely and you may notice that a photo in a wall frame offers a subtle homage to CD Rudd's comic (Those figures look a lot like Bay and Honey...), and that Tiffany forgot to use the wrist straps the first time they played. The gaming console looks like a GameCube and Wii mashed together, with dual cartridge slots on top reminiscent of one of those non-official consoles that are designed to play both NES and SNES games. I call this console the PlayTend Box 90 (Because it forms a 90-degree angle). I didn't intend for this to be any character's specific living room, but in hindsight, it does have Cannon's purple-and-green color scheme, so maybe this is at his house. This is my first wallpaper designed with phones/tablets in mind, which is why I centered the characters to appear on the screen even if the image is cropped. Still, I like how the scene looks as a whole, so I think it looks best on a tablet, or even centered on your PC. I hope you all enjoy it, especially you, CD (Sorry again for the long wait; I hope it was worth it)!
  3. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Maybe B.O.N.N.I.E.'s calculations are rounded down...? 0% feels like it should at least be some kinda decimal, like 0.5% or something... This storyline has been a bit more dramatic than most; it addresses a lot of characters' baggage. Don't worry; this comic isn't going full-drama. Even the best comedic cartoons have their dramatic moments (If the ending of the "Jurassic Bark" episode of Futurama didn't make you tear up a little the first time you saw it, you have no soul). B.O.N.N.I.E. gets her name from being the Belt Operation Network Neohuman with Inexplicable Emotions, and this comic showcases part of her inexplicably emotional side we haven't seen before. As a computer program, B.O.N.N.I.E. can't disobey a direct order, but she does have a degree of agency, and she's very protective of Belt Boy. She's not just a warning system that tells Belt Boy when systems are offline or when he's been seriously hurt; she makes her own judgements, and tells Belt Boy that he's putting himself in danger. She's being a friend as much as she is a program.
  4. Comic 1/27/18 - Multitasking Mayhem

TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Enticia accepts Dino-Mo's accusations; conversely, Belt Boy can't accept defeat. I like how this storyline's been exploring Enticia and Belt Boy's characters in different ways. Enticia has always been a flawed and somewhat egotistical character, who has put distance between herself and others, and allowed people to get hurt in the process. Now, she's seriously considering what people think about her and trying to listen. Belt Boy, on the other hand, has always been a seemingly perfect boy scout-type, but while he's friendly with others, he's hard on himself. Now, he's sinking further into his delusion that perfection is attainable, and he's becoming blinded to what he's doing. On a related note, I mentioned in last week's commentary that there's a key difference between Enticia and her mother; namely that Rose Greene's flirtiness was a string of short romances, while Enticia's playing for keeps. Enticia gathered the whole idea of dating lots of boys in a casual way, but her mom never explained a whole lot about ending relationships, apparently.
  5. Christmas 2017 Filler - 12/23/17

TheHeroesOfCRASH.com It's been a rough year for our country. A large number of us have been calling, protesting, and fighting for human rights in the face of greed and bigotry. It can get emotionally and even physically taxing. Between that and the typical holiday chaos, it's easy to wonder what's the point? Why bother? Does anything I do really matter? Well, despite a recent defeat regarding a certain tax bill, I still believe YES. Yes, it DOES matter what you do. While the words of Jacob Marley's ghost in today's filler may seem grim, in the context of the picture, I feel that it serves as an important reminder. While we are alive, we should do all that we can to help others and spread happiness. Joy is infectious; when you spread it around, you can feel it yourself. While you may not be able to change the world, the changes you CAN bring about can mean the world to one person... maybe two, including you! Meanwhile, those who fail to help others and think only of themselves are probably gonna discover karma laying the smackdown on them, in this life or the next (Okay, perhaps that's a little less "peace-and-love-y" than most of my Christmas messages, but I'm sure that thought comforts a few of you)! Anyway, if you're still willing to help out those in need, I recommend contacting your representatives every day. There's lots of great causes to fight for; if you like my comic and other webcomics, you should try showing your support for Net Neutrality. Tell the House and Senate to use a Resolution of Disapproval (under the CRA) to overturn the FCC's decision to repeal Net Neutrality laws! You might also want to help out by donating to a charity or a food bank that supports those hit by this year's hurricanes. If you want a suggestion, FeedingAmerica.org seems to be a well-reputed charity that's aiding in the relief efforts, and even a small $1 donation will be a big help. Anyway, today's comic took me all week to figure out. I knew I wanted to use this quote - I felt like it expressed justice during a time when a lot of people are losing faith in justice. However, I didn't want the shadenfreude of bad people being punished to overshadow the message that it's important to be kind to one another. Like the story of A Christmas Carol itself, there needed to be a good balance between the light and dark. Some earlier ideas felt too dark to me - like having ghostly politicians wearing Marley-style chains, or my characters posing as the Ghosts of Christmas Past/Present/Future to pester politicians. Ultimately, I felt that the picture should show my characters exemplifying the notion that charity and generosity is everyone's business, rather than bemoaning it too late like Marley, so I put my characters in a food pantry (much like my family and I volunteer at a homeless shelter every Christmas morning to serve food at a luncheon and do crafts and drawings with the children). I still felt that there needed to be a little jab at those who think only of themselves and merely pretend to be generous (That is a big issue going on right now, and I felt that I had to address it), so I put in the politician. It's no coincidence that the senator is under the quote about the consequences of selfishness, while my heroes are stationed beneath the words about giving to others. My fellow Pennsylvanians might have noticed that Senator Nat Tooman is a parody of Senator Pat Toomey - my state's Republican senator who's been pushing the tax bill, praising Trump's nominees (most notably Betsy DeVos, whose family contributed to his campaign), and opposing Net Neutrality. I was considering making the parody character's last name "Toomer", because like a tumor, he's malignant and should be removed, but I think I might save that joke for some protest signs. The name "Nat Tooman" sounds a lot like "Not Human", stressing his lack of humanity. Y'know, I might find a place for this guy in a future storyline at some point...! Anyway, here's hoping that whatever you celebrate - whether it's Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or just having a quiet winter's day - that you have a happy holiday season! Take care, everyone!
  6. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Not much to say about Part 2 that I haven't said about Part 1. I suppose I could mention that most of the junk food buffet that's been eaten was munched by Titanium Maiden. Her amazonian physique burns a lot of calories easily, leaving her with a need for a lot of food. She gets a little self-conscious about this, though, so she usually eats a big breakfast and a big lunch, so she can eat a relatively normal-sized meal for lunch while she's at school. You may have noticed that I haven't been posting my Inktober drawings to social media lately; I've gotten a bit behind, so I'm trying to do a bunch of drawings to make up for lost time. I'll be posting them soon! Anyway, I hope you all have a happy and safe Halloween! Be careful, have fun, and don't sue me. This filler is fan-art only, like I said.
  7. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com It's that time of year again...! Halloween is here, and my heroes are in costume. For the first time in a while, I'm just drawing my main three. Getting back to basics. Making it a two-parter was partly out of necessity; I've been busy with job stuff and trying to crank out quality Inktober drawings (I've gotten a bit behind; I'll try to catch up during the weekend!), so I've had less time to devote to my comic than usual this week. So, I decided to begin the Halloween filler a bit early, and split it up between my 10/21 and 10/28 updates. As usual, my characters tend to follow certain themes while deciding their costumes. Belt Boy always dresses as a superhero, but has yet to wear a single DC or Marvel costume. Cannon always wears a costume that allows him to modify his helmet (He has spares). And Titanium Maiden always dresses up as a redhead. With the new anime My Hero Academia gaining popularity, I took notice. One character, named All Might, appears to be a perfect costume for Belt Boy. They're both blonde, often shown grinning heroically (and both often do so to hide their weaknesses), and wear an all-American red, white, and blue color scheme as a nod to many famous American superheroes (such as Superman, Captain America, and Wonder Woman, among others). Only thing All Might is missing is an awesome cape. Belt Boy always pulls off superhero poses, and I thought that showing off his specialized entertainment center remote deserved such a pose, especially in his super costume. Cannon is dressed as Shovel Knight from the video game of the same name (A game I own, but have yet to beat. I highly recommend it, though). As a major consumer of nerdy media, it's no surprise Cannon would dress as a video game hero, nor is it a surprise that he's amassed such a huge Halloween video collection and organized it. For the record, the two musical movies he's referring to are Rocky Horror Picture Show and Little Shop of Horrors (Unless I missed any good Halloween-appropriate musicals?*). While I watch a lot of Halloweeny movies this time of year, Cannon can probably stand much scarier movies than I can. Most of what I watch this time of year is animated (Like Nightmare Before Christmas... which I guess counts as a musical too. Maybe he categorizes the animated musicals seperately...?) or a spooky comedy (Like Ghostbusters). You won't catch me watching something like Nightmare on Elm Street; that movie scared the crap out of me when I was a young and impressionable.** Titanium Maiden's costume is a bit esoteric. While looking up redheaded characters to dress her as, I found a picture of a bunch of redheaded Disney characters, and in there was Pepper Ann. That seemed like a good, nostalgic fit for her costume, so I did a google image search, and found an image of Pepper Ann's superhero alter-ego from the dream sequence in her opening theme montage. This version of Pepper Ann seemed like an even better fit for Titanium Maiden, mainly due to her physique being a darn good match for my comic's heroine. So here's Titanium Maiden as "Super" Pepper Ann. By the way, a good number of those pizzas are for TM; while she tends to eat normal-sized lunches, her Amazonia physique burns a lot of calories, so she eats some sizeable breakfasts and dinners. Anyway, expect part two next week, readers! See you then! All Might and My Hero Academia are the copyrighted property of Kohei Horikoshi/SHUEISHA Inc. Shovel Knight is the copyrighted property of Yacht Club games. Pepper Ann is the copyrighted property of Disney. I only did the art, and I own Belt Boy, Cannon, and Titanium Maiden, as well as The Heroes of C.R.A.S.H. Please don't sue me. *A side note: Cannon's not a big fan of opera, so don't bother mentioning The Phantom of the Opera or Repo! the Genetic Opera. ** I was around 20 at the time.
  8. Comic 10/14/17 - Snowball's Chance

TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Still trying to regain access to my site. Between work, my comic, and Inktober, I haven't had much time to fix the problem, but I'm working on it. At least I can still post on social media, and I have some time freed up this weekend *Knock on wood*. *UPDATE* My site is updateable again! I spoke with my webhosting call center and got things taken care of. This week's comic and last week's comic are on the site right now. :-) Anyway, in today's comic, Belt Boy's friends continue their search, unaware that he's a good distance away from the school, with Necros gloating over him. Will they find him? Stay tuned, readers! You might look at the next-to-last panel and think that Necros' Necrobots are behind him. You might look and think that the shadow is Belt Boy imagining the Nightmare Necros he saw in his bad dream from the previous night. Well, it's honestly kinda both. Those are, indeed, Necros' Necrobots (the shape lacks Necros' eye scar, and the neck and head don't look all skeletal), but it is supposed to remind you of Nightmare Necros. Quite the spooky coincidence for Belt Boy!
  9. theheroesofcrash.com I'm back from a fun birthday weekend, and so instead of my usual Saturday Morning update, we have a bit of a "Sunday Night Special"! I proudly present the winning entry - or rather, entries - to my Fan Art Contest's Traditional Fan Art category! CD Rudd, creator of the webcomic SailorSun.Org, has done a bit of a crossover (and not the first one!) between my cast and his! What would happen if Belt Boy, Cannon, and Titanium Maiden were to hang out with Honey, Bay, and Auction Guy (respectively)? By the way, Bay has nothing to worry about; Belt Boy is, indeed, only pointing a camera at her. He is in full control of any weapons on his belt, and he's too innocent to even consider anything else she might be suggesting (This IS a PG-rated comic, after all!). You can see his individual drawings on my website, and you can see a link to his webcomic (with a brief discription) over at my Links page! For winning the contest, CD Rudd has won the right to choose the subject of the next HoC Desktop, and I'll be sending him a little sketch in the very near future. Also receiving a sketch soon will be devoted HoC fan TheSlugCar, for his creative "BonnieBot" entry (Which answers the question "What would happen if B.O.N.N.I.E. downloaded her brain into a MON-type Necrobot?"). Thanks for the awesome fan art, guys! This was a great birthday! :-D One last thing: Due to a lack of entries, the Generated Fan Art Contest has been extended! If you submit a video game avatar that resembles one of my characters by 11:59 PM (EST) on Friday, May 26th, your entry will still be considered for the contest! You could win a sketch, or I could create a cool drawing based on your entry to be publicly displayed on the site! Whether it's a Mii or a Sim or whatever, you have almost a week to make it!
  10. Comic 10/7/17 - Headphony

TheHeroesOfCRASH.com A head's up; at the time of this initial posting (Early Saturday morning, after midnight), I am unable to connect to the website, so I'm just posting this week's comic to social media for now. I'm going to try again tomorrow; perhaps my site is being finicky (I'm hoping that's the case, *Knock on wood*). In this week's strip, Belt Boy seems to have underestimated Necros. Either he's not thinking straight after lots of stress and repeated blows to the head, or he's activated his own gadgets' self-destruct mechanisms by mistake in the past. Or both. Either seems pretty likely. Like me, Belt Boy's not good at lying. Still, he totally has his own mix of superhero theme music, so he could turn it on right away and make it so he's not lying. Might also be good for him to listen to my "Playlist of C.R.A.S.H." that I created on Spotify (And that a fan re-created on YouTube) last summer. If you're new to my comic and haven't listened to my playlist, I highly recommend looking it up on either site!
  11. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com So close, and yet so far... Belt Boy had a good plan, but it seems Necros realized exactly what he was up to. The question remains - how is Belt Boy going to get that disk away from his arch-nemesis? Belt Boy and Necros are both competant fighters with an array of gadgets at their disposal. Belt Boy has worked hard to not use his gadgets as a crutch in battle, so he'd be tough to beat if he were ever disarmed - or rather, dis-belted (assuming his pants didn't fall down around his ankles without his belt to hold them up). Still, Necros seems very much like a ninja, relying on stealth and - as one can see from his first encounter with Belt Boy - precise strikes. While Necros has less variety in his arsenal than Belt Boy, his devices are made for very specific purposes, while Belt Boy seems to have a gadget ready for any situation. And while that fact might seem to tip the odds in Belt Boy's favor, it's important to keep in mind that Necros' BUG-type Necrobots are used to spy, infiltrate, and sabotage (which means that Necros knows more about Belt Boy than Belt Boy knows about him), while his NRM- and MON-type Necrobots comprise a large, powerful army. In other words, Necros can out-fight, out-strategize, and outnumber Belt Boy. If Belt Boy wants to save his hide - let alone beat Necros - he's gonna need something to tip the scales back in his favor. Anyway, if you like this week's comic, be sure to leave a comment and let me know! Or better yet, share it around! I always like getting new readers!
  12. Comic 9/23/17 - Disk Appearing Act

TheHeroesOfCRASH.com At last! Belt Boy seems to be forming a plan. It may hurt, but not as badly as he'll get hurt if those Necrobots keep swarming around him! Can Belt Boy retrieve the portal generator disk, or will Necros finally triumph against our hero? Stay tuned, readers! After some delays and computer slowdowns, earlier in the week, I wound up spending most of my Thursday drawing this week's comic. I got pretty ambitious with that upper corner; I had to come up with four unique poses for Belt Boy to fit into four skinny little panels, and make it clear what was happening in each one, so it took me a few attempts to get the poses right. Also, as much as I love the character design I came up with for the Necrobots, they take a while to draw, because of all the details in their skeletally-inspired anatomy. If you're enjoying my comic, please share it around! I want more readers, and sharing is the way to make it happen!
  13. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Just when Belt Boy thinks he's got the upper hand, it seems that his foes have the upper claw! How can he stop an army of Necrobots on his own? Stay tuned, readers! The title of this comic was intended as a reference to a song from my favorite movie, Who Framed Roger Rabbit* - not a song by the same name from the cartoon series Batman: The Brave and the Bold. However, one of Belt Boy's lines in the first panel IS a reference to Brave and the Bold**. While I've never been a big fan of Batman himself (I'm not a big fan of overly-brooding superheroes), I find his villains entertaining, as well as the other heroes that the dork knight teams up in every episode of Brave and the Bold. I also appreciate the fact that the series is a love letter to a bygone era of comics, the occasional fourth wall break, and the fact that one episode had Weird Al Yankovic and the Scooby Doo crew. While I'm very proud of my designs for the Necrobots, they are one of the hardest things in my comic that I have to draw, especially when I have to draw an army of them! Between that and panel size, you're not likely to see a whole bunch of them in one panel. One think I find fun is that BB's hair seems to smooth and re-frazzle with his mood. As a cartoon, his hair isn't just hair: it's plumage! By the way, am I the only one who imagines hearing the word "plumage" in Michael Palin's voice whenever they read it? If you enjoyed my comic for this week, please like it and share it! I also wouldn't mind some comments, even if it's something as simple as "Nice comic!" or "lol". I takes whatever praise I gets! *Oddly enough, Who Framed Roger Rabbit doesn't have a "?" at the end, because that's supposed to be bad luck for a film title in the movie biz. Fun trivia! ** It's also a good excuse to use alliteration, which I love to use.
  14. 8/5/17 - Working on Networking

TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Despite the fact that I've still been having a few computer issues and more than a few thunderstorms keeping me from working on my computer for long periods of time, I haven't been slacking off with my comic. In fact, I'm working on promoting it so that I can reach a wider audience! First of all, in addition to the Facebook group, I have now given The Heroes Of C.R.A.S.H. a proper Facebook page (Admittedly, when I was starting out, I wasn't really sure of the difference between the two), which you can visit by clicking the Social Media button on my site's home page. Second, if you've been following my Facebook group, I'm going to be attending the Lehigh Valley Comic Con today! It's been a while since I've been to a small convention, and while the big ones like Wizard World are a lot of fun, I love how small cons are more relaxed and less crowded, so I'm looking forward to it. Third, while I'm there, I'm going to be handing out some sweet new business cards that look like what I've posted today, with some additional info on the back. If you are reading this AFTER Saturday, August 5th because you saw my Facebook page or got one of my cards at the convention, WELCOME! I hope you enjoy my comic, and that you'll visit my Social Media links to spread the word about how much you enjoy it!
  15. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Not much to say that I haven't said in today's filler. Keep following me on social media to stay posted with everything that's going on with me and with the comic; if I'm ever unable to post to the site, I'll let you know what's going on through Twitter, Tumblr, and Facebook. Speaking of the interwebs, if you haven't done so already, please contact your representatives as well as the FCC and tell them to keep Title II and Net Neutrality. Otherwise, my webcomic, every webcomic, and just about anything that people create on the 'net could be in danger. Do your part to protect freedom of speech!
  16. Comic 7/15/17 - Peerless Leader

TheHeroesOfCRASH.com It seems that B.O.N.N.I.E. has pointed out a flaw in Belt Boy's logic, but whether or not her comment will sink in has yet to be seen. Watch the angst, BB - you don't wanna go all "typical DC movie" on us!* After some computer hardware repairs, lots of predicted lightning storms, and me being exhausted, today's comic almost didn't get uploaded on time. I was tempted to go for another filler - I was thinking of having Belt Boy or TM follow up on Wednesday's Net Neutrality message in a filler featuring a parody song, turning Walk the Moon's "Shut Up and Dance" into a song about Net Neutrality. The phrase "Net Neutrality" fits into the song pretty easily. But I decided against it; I've been doing very few fillers in the past year or so, but I broke my streak a few times in April/May, and I wanted to stay on track. So, I kept Wednesday's message up and put this week's comic beneath it. Still, with all those delays, I did most of this week's comic in one night. It's nearly 5AM as I'm writing this, so I hope you appreciate my dedication to getting my comic updated on time with a proper canonical comic! Fight scenes are still a bit tricky for me, but I'm pretty happy with BB's poses in panels 2 and 4. I really wanted to make him look like he could use his own fighting skills AND his gadgets at the same time, rather than relying too heavily on one or the other, or switching between the two. Back to Belt Boy's angst that I referenced in the first paragraph, but putting jokes aside... I don't think of Belt Boy as a particularly "angsty" character. But I do think of my comic as being like a Saturday morning cartoon, and even funny cartoon heroes can have a breaking point, or moments of seriousness between the laughs. This is particularly true in today's cartoons, where Steven Universe, Gravity Falls, and even Gumball can have dramatic, poignant moments. Similarly, BB's been a bit less of a goofball since Necros appeared. Don't worry, though; he'll be back to joking and being zany soon enough. *Not Wonder Woman, of course. That movie rocked. :-)
  17. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Hey everyone! I'm back, and so is the storyline! I hope everyone took Dexter's words to heart about calling your senators during his filler last week. Anyway, on to today's comic! You'll no doubt see a few familiar scenes in today's comic, including TM dodging rubble from the Gym-Nauseum storyline, or Belt Boy feeling defeated from near the end of Van-Ishing Act. But a few scenes seem out of place or unfamiliar, as do a word or two. I'll only give one hint; take a good look at Cannon's hand in this picture; something seems off about it...! I'm rather happy with the thought balloon here. Like Belt Boy's daydreams and memories, this flood of negative emotions and memories has some yellow tint to it, specifically some darkened yellow in the background.
  18. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Necros is a level of evil that deserves a lot of symbolic, artsy backgrounds whenever he speaks, if the last few strips are any indication. While Necros does love evil monologues, he's very careful about what he gives away to Belt Boy - moreso than most villains. He's given him just enough information to make our hero doubt himself or become paranoid, but he doesn't know how Necros is able to spy on him and his friends. Of course, we all know from the Gym-Nauseum storyline that Necros is able to use the cameras mounted on tiny BUG-type Necrobots (First seen 5/8/12, and first named 5/10/12), but he hasn't revealed this to Belt Boy. That's what seperates Necros from other archvillains; his speeches are more than simple brags and gloats where he reveals his plan to the hero. He knows just what information to withold so it's not used against him, and what to reveal in order to use his knowledge against the hero. His speeches are psychological warfare.
  19. Comic 6/3/17 - Quizzes and Tests

TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Uh-oh! If Belt Boy's confidence was shaken before, Necros has REALLY struck a nerve now! If you recall the last storyline, you probably have a good idea as to how Necros knows about Belt Boy's quiz, but our hero is shocked that his foe has learned his secret. While little is known about Necros, I will say this: he generally looks down on a lot of superhero genre cliches, but even he can't resist a good villain monologue... as long as he's the one making it. A lot of heroes and even more villains enjoy hearing themselves talk, after all. But when Necros is able to turn his words into weapons against his foe, that's the kind of villain speech Necros savors most of all.
  20. Comic 5/27/17 - Test of Endurance

TheHeroesOfCRASH.com We now return to our regularly scheduled program! When we last left our hero, Belt Boy was nervously staring down his arch-nemesis, Necros. But stress and a recent battle have left our plucky protagonist a bit shaken, and Necros can smell his fear. Will Belt Boy be able to face his fears and his foe? Will his friends be able to hash out their differences? And for how long will Miss Sunflower be nursing that headache? The answers to these questions and more will be revealed in the upcoming installments of... The Heroes of C.R.A.S.H.! By the way, due to a lack of entries, the Generated Fan Art Contest has been cancelled. Thank you to everyone who participated in the Traditional Fan Art category. :-) Feel free to send me some fan art during next year's contest, folks (Although I appreciate fan art year-round!).
  21. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com As the title suggests, Belt Boy may not be near the proverbial frying pan, but he's definitely in the fire. An awkward argument between friends is nowhere near as tense as a battle for your life! I'm pretty happy with how the last panel turned out. The only thing I wonder if I should have done differently is skip the red/green coloring. You'll notice that Necros, once again, has the evil shade of lime green by his face, while BB counters it with red. There's but ONE WEEK LEFT to enter my birthday fan art contest! I'll be posting the winning entry a day late, since I'll be engaging in some birthday festivities that will have me away from my computer. If you want to enter, do it by 11:59 PM on May 19th! Check out the Rules page for more info!
  22. Comic 4/8/17 - Necros Returns!

theheroesofcrash.com We return to the canonical comics after last week's filler, and we now see who has Belt Boy so worried - none other than his dreaded arch-nemesis, Necros! I colored the first panel lime green because if Disney (and Tumblr) has taught me anything, it's that lime green is the color of evil. Ursula's voice-stealing magic, Scar's steam columns at the beginning of Be Prepared, Maleficent's dragon flames and glowing spinning wheel... all lime green. And there's more lime green-colored villainy in those movies. Try googling "Disney villains lime green" and see what you come up with! While Necros does have a nose beneath that mask (He may be evil, but he's not rocking the Voldemort look), I thought that it kinda ruined the skull effect of his mask to show the shape of his nose when drawing him from a side view in my simplistic cartoon style. Consider his mysterious noselessness a style choice. It seems rather apt that this is the six-hundred and sixty-sixth canonical comic, and we're witnessing the return of the strip's nastiest villain so far, especially when his nightmarish shadow looks so demonic. I assure you that the shadow is merely a reflection of Belt Boy's fear in his head, and that Necros isn't actually casting a demonic shadow. But even if that shadow is nothing more than a visual metaphor, Necros himself is an imposing figure in person, and Belt Boy knows full well that his bite is even worse than his bark.
  23. theheroesofcrash.comWho could this shadowy figure be...?! The answer will SHOCK you! Okay, it actually probably WON'T shock you if you read my comic. But a villain of this caliber deserves a dramatic introduction. I'm proudest of that panel in the lower left. I like BB's punched expression and the blurry fist. Just altogether a good, toony image. Just reminding you that my Fan Art contest is still going on, and EVERYONE who enters gets a prize! There's even an easy-peasy category for people to submit game avatars based on my characters! What are you waiting for? Enter my contest! You can also click on the button on my main page for the full rules.
  24. Comic 3/11/17 - Split Second Timing

theheroesofcrash.com Uh-oh... seems Miss Sunflower has gotten the upper hand! How's Belt Boy going to make it out of THIS one? Gonna break this commentary down panel-by-panel. In the first shot, I wanted to make sure that I didn't draw Belt Boy dodging her blasts in any of the same poses he used when dodging her blasts in their first battle. I should probably practice realistic lighting, but in the meantime I just went with my gut on how to shade Sunflower's metal parts to get something that looked aesthetically good and fitting with my cartoonish style. Panel 2 is Belt Boy looking uncharacteristically smug. Like I said, Cannon's rubbed off on him a bit. Panel 3: fun with sound effect lettering! I like the shapes of the letters I came up with; they look a bit stretched and toony. Belt Boy's clearly seeing stars... and comets and a planet! The little "burst effect" in the background was added last minute to give it more pizazz; I used a gradient effect and a blurring eraser, and I'm pretty happy with that. Panel 4: Loving BB's cartoonish KO pose here. The background was a bit tricky to do, but I like how it looks, especially the driveway with a sloped sidewalk and arrows. The sign is actually a pair of subtle pop culture references; 2nd Time Around was the name of the antique store owned by April O'Neil's family in some Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles universes, and the unbroken clock is set to four of two - the title of a They Might Be Giants song is "Four of Two" (And its lyrics suggest that it may be a good song for BB to fall unconscious to...!). By the way, folks, have you started working on fan art for my contest? Don't forget, EVERYONE who enters gets a prize! Be sure to enter by May 19th!
  25. theheroesofcrash.com With an evil, witch-like villainess bursting out of a trash can she'd been trapped in, I couldn't resist making a Power Rangers reference. Tee hee! Belt Boy doesn't have Cannon's natural sarcastic wit, but after years of having Cannon as a friend and seeing witty hero reparte in comics/cartoons/movies, he's able to make some decent quips against evildoers. Granted, a lot of them are puns, but he takes pride in them. I colored the trash can in the second panel with the grays and blues it's supposed to have, then put a translucent layer of red coloring over it to make it look like it was heating up. I also used translucent layers for the steam. I love how B.O.N.N.I.E. is cowering behind Belt Boy in the last panel. While she could easily have communicated with BB without popping out of his belt - much like she did in the previous comic - I felt that making her hide behind him made her emotion that much stronger.
