  1. 1/19/19 - Jackknife is Disarmed

http://TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Step 1: Unleash arm blades Step 2: Something happens Step 3: Profit Despite having had a bit of a tiff with Dino-Mo earlier, Sugar Rush seems to be ready to take orders again. Did she stop being mad, or is she just able to put those feelings aside when there are more pressing matters? Stay tuned, and maybe you'll find out! I don't always laugh at my own jokes. But when I do, I try to fit them into a comic. No, I'm not just parodying the "Most Interesting Man in the World"; I think that's good advice for a cartoonist. Good characters and stories come from feeling and passion. If you make yourself laugh, you've successfully brought that feeling out in yourself, and you can use that to make something that captures that feeling. I not only love the gag, but I like how that last comic turned out visually. It was fun using the transparency slide on a few layers to create the illusion of movement, as well as the watercolor paintbrush tool to create blurred stripes of color. Still, I wish that my current computer still had the GIF making program that my old computer had; I'm sure it would have been even fun to animate that last panel.
  2. http://TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Necros gets a taste of his own medicine as our heroes fight him together! He may be tough, but he's outnumbered, and he's left them an opening. But will that be enough to take him down? Stay tuned, faithful readers! Instead of traditional onomatopoeia as sound effects for each attack, I opted to name each attack instead, kind of like the text that pops up in Fairly Oddparents cartoons (which is appropriate, as the show did inspire my comic... even if Hartman seems to have gone a bit off the deep end since then). I had fun playing with the lettering; it was less like writing and more like drawing, with each "font" drawing inspiration from the attacking hero or the attack itself Dino-Mo's "Tail Slam" has pointy letters, reminiscent of a bent dinosaur tail; the letters and background have reptilian-inspired colors. "Dodgeball Barrage" is written on dodgeballs with a yellow background, evoking Dodge's color scheme. Enticia has muted pinks and elegant letters (almost rose-colored, like her civilian namesake) for her "Platform Kick"; more blacks and grays to match her shoes wouldn't contrast with her and Necros well enough. "Cannon Fire" is quick and to the point, with no frills, like Cannon himself and his rapid-fire blasts, with (what else?) a green and purple color scheme. Sugar Rush's volley of "Fury Punches" are accompanied by fist-shaped letters, with muted reds to stand apart a little from her bright red gloves. Jackknife's "Scythe Slash" has letters as pointy as his weapon and green as his outfit, plus they arc in the direction of his attack. Unk's "UNK-ppercut" highlights the awful play on words, which admittedly says more about my style than his, but at least keeps his color scheme. I was initially going to have Unk put the squeeze on Necros again, but I wanted to add a different attack to his repertoire. I also didn't want to have too much of Unk show up in the panel; it would break up the pattern of each panel focusing on Necros and the attack itself. And finally, Titanium Maiden's "Titanium Clothesline" has metal lettering (suggesting titanium, of course), which contrasts nicely with her signature shade of pink in the background. That's a total of eight attacks; the only characters who aren't attacking in this strip are Gelatin Boy (Whose sweat already helped in the previous strip, and who lacks any actual "attacks" anyway) and Belt Boy. Whether or not he plans to take any action remains to be seen, for now...! By the way, I'm always happy to hear feedback from my readers; which panel was your favorite in today's strip? Leave me a comment! I also appreciate it when you share my comic, so please share this post!
  3. 12/29/18 - Happy New Year 2019

TheHeroesOfCRASH.com [Insert holiday greeting/well-wishing] What can I say? The holidays are hectic, and even this filler took time to draw. In all honesty, I'm not doing any resolutions. Resolving to do a thing kinda jinxes it, it seems, so I'll probably be more successful if I don't resolve to succeed. #webcomic #webcomics #comic #comics #superhero #superheroes#superheroine #superheroines #NewYears #hashtag #morehashtags#allthehashtags
  4. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Whatever you celebrate, be sure to share the love this holiday season! Longtime HoC fans will recognize that TM is wearing the sweater she always wears in winter fillers, and Belt Boy is wearing his Christmas-color outfit (You can't tell from this site, but he's traded in his cape for a scarf). Cannon's jacket is based on ones I've worn (as well as his armor's color scheme), and his hat is based on the one his Mii wears when I recreate him in video games. Enticia's outfit is just meant to look classy and fashionable, while Daisy's is a bunch of bright purples and pinks that a little girl might enjoy. Happy holidays, everyone!
  5. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Making Necros look foolish is no easy feat, but walking on gelatin is easy for no feet. Although Necros is formidable, his biggest weakness - like that of many villains - is underestimating his opponents. And with a goofy group such as this crew, is it any wonder he's underestimated them? This strip took shorter to create than my last strip, largely because it has fewer people. I admittedly set up this strip to be quicker to draw, which is why I employed a few tricks. A close-up in panel one, showing only one character in panel two, having background characters with no color (which also had the bonus effect of downplaying their presence without ignoring them) in panel 3, and a black sillhouette in panel 4. By the way, if you look closely at panel 3, you'll see that Cannon has his eyes on that gelatin puddle, and a knowing grin on his face...!
  6. 12/8/18 - Spare the Speech

http://TheHeroesOfCRASH.com "We can do this the easy way, or Belt Boy can start rambling again." Belt Boy and Cannon are both largely based on different aspects of myself (although my best friend Chris is also a strong influence on Cannon). Belt Boy represents my creativity and my optimism, while Cannon represents my sense of wit and my sarcasm. It's kind of funny seeing aspects of my personality clash against each other; I'm pretty sure that last panel sums up what happens in my head when I catch myself talking too much. That first panel took forever; It wasn't easy to fit all those characters in there, overlapping each other in such a way that they didn't look too jumbled together. The last time I drew this many characters was only a little over a dozen strips ago, but they were arranged in a straight line, so drawing this panel was a bit more daring. I enjoy playing with the thicknesses of lines and outlines to make characters seem closer and further away; the first and last panels are proof of that. :-)
  7. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Getting rescued by Jackknife is a cold comfort to Gelatin Boy. Then again, maybe that's too harsh. It's colder than lukewarm comfort, and "cool comfort" sounds too positive. Ah, forget it. The metaphor's clashing with the title for this strip, anyway. Had some fun with the shadows on this strip. While the light sources may not be 100% realistic, they at least give the bottom panels a sense of depth. Jackknife's blades can take on different shapes, which is why the one he used here is needle-shaped, rather than shark-fin-shaped. He can shape them as long as they're still in his arm; if he ejects them, they're stuck in their shape, and his arm reloads instantly. He's previously shaped his blades into scythes and boomerangs.
  8. 11/24/18 - Swiping and 'Splosions

TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Seems Belt Boy forgot one teensy little detail when he was sharing his plan. Not sure what Cannon's excuse was, seeing as he sustained his head injury (Strip number 718, dated 9/22/18) in the fight AFTER Belt Boy already shared his plan. So long as we're looking at previous strips for clues, no one seemed to notice seeing Gelatin Boy sneak in between Unk and Necros in the last panel of strip number 721 (Dated 10/31/18), nor the fact that the portal disc hasn't been seen since. Gelatin Boy really is a great spy! By the way, if you've been enjoying this strip, please show it some love and share it with your friends!
  9. 10/27/18 - Halloween 2018

Happy Halloween from TheHeroesOfCRASH.com! Remember to Vote Blue, or Gritty will EAT YOUR SOUL. Usually, my Halloween fillers will include some nostalgic costumes, but there were too many cases of "I Couldn't Resist" with more recent stuff...! I absolutely loved Shuri in Black Panther; with her brains, wisecracks, and cool hand-blasters, she was easily my favorite character. Plus, she's canonically smarter than Tony Stark, who I think needs to be brought down a peg (Admittedly, that's largely because I still have a somewhat petty grudge against Robert Downy Jr. for his not-terribly-Sherlock-y portrayal of Sherlock Holmes). She's a VERY close second to Deadpool for my favorite Marvel movie characters. There was no way I was missing a chance to dress Enticia up as such an awesome character, even if her design was tricky to figure out, simplify, and draw. Titanium Maiden always goes as redheaded characters for Halloween, and I FINALLY saw the movie Brave this summer (and liked it). TM's Merida-styled hair was a bit less tricky than I was afraid it would be; I found myself blocking out the general shape first, and then doing the outermost strands. Cannon always modifies his helmet for Halloween costumes, and this isn't his first time dressing as a Mega Man character (He dressed up as Protoman for the very first Halloween filler!). Cannon and Acid Man (from the new Mega Man 11) share a similar color scheme, have bulky armor above a skinny torso, and wield a barrel-shaped arm cannon on their right arm. The resemblance is unCannony- er, uncanny! Every year, Belt Boy dresses as a superhero, and every year it's NEVER someone from either DC or Marvel! While the Big Two have come up with some great characters, a lot of my favorite superheroes are from outside their universes. Nearly all of Belt Boy's previous costumes have been characters with only one canon universe (making them easy characters to follow and understand), they tend to explore some inventive worldbuilding, and most of them have strong elements of humor. I haven't seen much of One Punch Man, but I would like to see more. I probably would have had BB dress as him last year if I hadn't chosen All Might. One more note: Belt Boy is intentionally trying to maintain his character's half-lidded gaze and small anime mouth. He takes his costumes seriously. Gritty is TERRIFYING. He looks like a Muppet with the dead eyes of a Five Nights at Freddies animatronic. As a Pennsylvanian with Philadelphian parents, I'm a little embarrassed for my own home team. But Gritty has a few things going for him. For one, the concept drawings of him look MUCH less terrifying than the actual mascot costume. And for another, Philadelphia's citizens have kinda adopted him as an anti-Trump mascot. I guess sometimes you have to fight fire WITH fire... or perhaps fight a nightmare-inducing orange monster with bad hair WITH a nightmare-inducing orange monster with bad hair. Being big and orange, I knew Unk was the perfect character to pull him off (And yes, those creepy eyes are glued to Unk's signature sunglasses). And finally, there's Miss Sunflower. This is only her second appearance in a Halloween costume (The first being Gozer the Gozerian). Everyone's been drawing Bowsette lately, and it was only a matter of time until I got into the action. People have been drawing her different ways, combining different degrees of Peach and Bowser's designs. Some make her look mostly like Peach (blonde, waifish, and almost entirely humanoid), while others mix a bit more Bowser into her design (giving her red hair, a bulky physique, and/or a more reptilian design). While I briefly considered drawing Titanium Maiden as a bulky, redheaded Bowsette, it didn't take me long to realize that Miss Sunflower - as a villain with actual horns like most Bowsettes - was a WAY better choice. Outside of her red hair, and her signature makeup, Sunflower's design is mostly like that found in the original Bowsette comic that started this meme (By the way, if Toadette becomes "Peachette", shouldn't Bowser become "Peachser"? I'm just saying...). One last note; I was originally going to draw a different Halloween filler based on the idea of there being unwanted attention at a Halloween party. In honor of The Heroes Of C.R.A.S.H. joining the Collective of Heroes, I was going to promote it by having some other CoH characters show up, with Cannon unsuccessfully hitting on the superheroines and making a less-than-stellar first impression. However, since it was pretty late in the game for me to ask permission to use characters, and I already signed up to do a Halloween art trade for the CoH, I decided it would be best not to start things off by biting off more than I could chew. You should still totally read the other Collective of Heroes comics. The ones I've been reading have been pretty great. And their Featured Comic for the week is- GASP! It's The Heroes Of C.R.A.S.H.! :-D
  10. Comic 9/22/18 - A Little Umbled Jup

TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Necros could probably do the slo-mo Matrix dodge, but doesn't respect most opponents enough to let them see a move that cool. While I've been trying to do a better job with my characters' proportions and anatomy, it's been more fun employing another art skill I've been working on: the Line of Action. A good example is that top right panel, where Necros is flipping Cannon and Dodge, causing them to travel in an arc. I get to break the rules of anatomy, turning Cannon and Dodge's arms into rubber and their legs into streaks as they soar across the panel. It's a lot of fun to draw and to look at. Initially, I drew Necros grabbing Cannon by his purple sleeve, but I changed it when I saw that it was easier to draw (and probably more practical) to have Necros grab him by his cannon in the following panel. I nearly let Cannon make a reference to "drain bamage", borrowing a line from Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People, but I wasn't sure how to use that line so that it felt more like paying homage than stealing.
  11. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Necros makes a deduction regarding Belt Boy's strategy. There's more I want to say about that, as well as some of the visuals in this comic, but that would be giving away spoilers, and as Cannon points out, no one likes a spoil-sport. So I'll just need to hold my tongue. It's no secret that I like to give each panel its own color to emphasize the mood or the character it portrays. Sometimes, I'll do what I did in today's strip, and have the colors slowly transition, from a dull red to a medium orange to a bright yellow. I even colored the arrows to support that transition. As one final note, I'd like to say that it's good to be working on story comics again. I've enjoyed my two-week vacation and setting up the contest with a two-part filler, but a month without stories is a long time, even when you only update once a week. Hope you're as happy to have my heroes back as I am!
  12. 9/8/18 - Cipher Contest Conclusion!

TheHeroesOfCRASH.com I'm finally back from my long vacation! It was good to get away from it all, but I'm happy to be updating my site again. I want to thank everyone for their patience, and to congratulate Twitter user StarSumiaki on deciphering the most coded messages and winning my contest! Here's the deciphered letters for everyone else, with answers at the bottom. My comic will resume next week! I was planning on having more heroes' letters, but to be honest, I was also having lots of fun on my vacation, and I was having trouble thinking of other locations that posed good enough puzzles. I was thinking of having Dodge be in Santa Fe, and mentioning his dads having enjoyed songs about it from Rent and Newsies. Wasn't sure what to do for Dino-Mo. I was considering having Unk spend his vacation at my favorite childhood vacation spot, but quite frankly, it's gotten too crowded in recent years and I want to avoid giving it any publicity. In any event, I wound up just doing the seven heroes, and that wound up being more than enough anyway (Only two puzzles got solved at all). I initially was going to have Dexter showing off postcards, but I wound up having B.O.N.N.I.E. showing off digital messages, like status updates. It allowed me to use different-sized text boxes, and I like how it suggests B.O.N.N.I.E. ran a decryption program. It was also fun doing emoji versions of my heroes (Probably inspired by my having played Disney Emoji Blitz earlier in the day).
  13. I think my comic explains it well, but here's the basic summary: 1. I'm going on vacation for two weeks, so I won't be unable to update TheHeroesOfCRASH.com until I return. 2. I'm holding a contest in the meantime. 3. I will post coded messages from my characters on Twitter; crack the code and send a reply tweet telling me what city/state they're in. 4. Send me the correct answer first to get a point. The Twitter user with the most points gets a drawing. If you want to get into the details of how to crack the code, read the comic. Good luck! Oh, and also, check out my comic characters' cameos at Sailor Sun Dot Org! It's on my Links page!
  14. 7/28/18 - Half-Congealed Plan

TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Necros won't see this coming, but Gelatin Boy should've. I felt that this was an important scene to put in; I previously glossed over the notion that Belt Boy was going to come up with a plan, but felt that something was missing, hence my filler from the previous week while I tried to figure out how to write in the new scene. There's a bit of foreshadowing in this scene as well, but I don't want to give too much away...! I'm pleased with BB's expressions and GB's posture... the only thing that really bugs me about this strip is that I realize I drew Unk too tall. Maybe I'll just say this is a subtly-angled shot and that he's a little further away from the foreground as a cop-out. Wait, can it still be a cop-out if I'm calling it a cop-out? Dangit.
  15. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Belt Boy comes to a realization about what being a leader means (fairly literally!). One of my less-traditional layouts, as I tend to favor 4-panel strips in a 2x2 layout. If you count the bottom left panel as 9 panels instead of one, this strip has more panels than any other strip I've done, at a whopping 14! Speaking of that 9-in-one panel, that was especially fun to draw. I wanted to make sure that each mini-panel showed off its character through the background and his/her facial expression. Gelatin Boy is a bit nervous about Belt Boy's faith in him, and his background is based on the wobbly shape of his head. Dodge and Dino-Mo are calm, but impressed by Belt Boy's attitude, and their backgrounds show a flying dodgeball and a dinosaur fossil, respectively. Sugar Rush, as always, is enthusiastic and ready to help out her friend; she's got a peppermint swirl background. Titanium Maiden is feeling proud that Belt Boy seems to have gotten over his attitude problem from earlier and is showing his team proper respect, and she's thankful that he's okay; her background, of course, is her signature flower. Cannon's smirking as if to say, "About time you wised up, BB," as he sits in front of his purple-on-green stripe (His hand resting on the panel frame represents his tendency to break the fourth wall, by the way!). Unk is almost as pleased as Sugar Rush to help out a friend, but is a bit more chill about it, as he is regarding most things; his background shows off his shades. Enticia is moved by his attitude toward his team, especially as she's been reflecting on her own leadership abilities; the insignias from her "heartbreaker pants" (as I call them) are in the background. Jackknife, with his pointy insignia behind him, is doing that mock-gagging thing because he's sick of all this sappy emotion-sharing. And of course, in the last panel (or space between panels), Belt Boy and B.O.N.N.I.E. stand before Belt Boy's signature utility belt buckle. If you missed my announcement on the main page, I've greatly updated my Fan Art page! This includes two bits of fan art I got through social media this past week: Cannon by BigNoseBug on Twitter (a storyboard artist for the upcoming Thundercats cartoon), and Belt Boy by Ken Bailey (creator of EnergyGirl, and the winner of my last birthday contest)! Here they are:
  16. Comic 7/7/18 - Holy Llama Turds!

TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Gelatin Boy grows a spine... granted, it's still a gelatinous one. Sometimes your characters surprise you as you write them. Gelatin Boy wasn't initially going to stand up to Jackknife this early in the story, but it happened! There are times where I want to make my characters do something to fit the story, but they wind up pulling me in another direction, and it feels like this was one of those cases. Oy, after almost a month without my computer getting the freezies, it had a relapse. It took nearly 15 hours of rebooting over and over, followed by just one hour of drawing and coloring to complete the comic I had been working on all week. But I got it done and posted on Saturday Morning as I always do, if a few hours later than normal. Thank you for your patience! Reminding you again; if my comic doesn't update, see what I have to say about it on social media! If I don't have access to my computer, but can still access my social media accounts, I will always use that to keep you abreast of things.
  17. Comic 6/30/18 - The Trio Reunited

TheHeroesOfCRASH.com After nearly 1 1/2 years and 61 story strips apart, Belt Boy, Titanium Maiden, and Cannon are finally back together! Yes, I know, time passes slowly when you have a weekly strip. Still, I'm glad I made it weekly; when I was trying to do 3 updates a week, I was mostly doing fillers, and now I've mostly eliminated fillers outside of my birthday and holidays. If I were doing 3 updates a week, I doubt I'd be able to do canonical comics as well or as regularly. Drawing big groups like in the first panel is tricky; you don't want them all standing stiff (Unless they have a reason to be stiff, like if they're frozen with fear or something). You need to give everyone a different, interesting pose. That's a big plus to having a very cartoony art style; you can have everyone exaggeratedly express their emotions to spice things up! Sugar Rush may have been all for Gelatin Boy fighting his own battles, but that doesn't mean she isn't tempted to intervene. Jackknife does have that kind of attitude that screams, "Please punch me in the face!" I love the coloring I did for the backgrounds in this strip. Normally, I just use a darker shade of the color of the wall for the background shadow. This time, though, I drew a black shadow on a layer, and made it translucent with 10% visibility. I think I like it better. Do you?
  18. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Gelatin Boy may be slippery and silent, but he's got a few things to learn about being a spy...! Necros may not have quite as many gadgets as Belt Boy, but given that he created the Necrobots, is it any surprise he's got a holographic watch in his gloves? In case you were wondering, yes - Sugar Rush's face in the fourth panel IS a reference to the meme-ified Yellow Diamond "You CLOD!" face. Her expression looked a bit different before, but when I noticed it looked a little bit like Yellow Diamond, I decided to take it a bit further. It's a bit subtle, but I'm proud of the way I drew Dino-Mo in the last panel, with her leaning to one side, and having her hands be asymmetrical. I'm trying to get a bit more inventive with my poses, and I think it makes her look a bit livelier. Sorry for this being a relatively late update for the second week in a row; technical difficulties combined with my working and sleeping odd hours this week have complicated my webcomic work schedule a bit. I think things should be back to normal next week *knock on wood*, when my work schedule becomes a bit more regular.
  19. http://TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Woo-hoo! The comic is finally up! If you visited my website this morning and noticed it didn't update, that's because of some technical difficulties I've (mostly) got under control for the time being. Remember; if I'm unable to update, or if there are any other issues, I'll let you know on social media. Sometimes, I'll even show you my comic on social media when I'm not able to access my site, like I did today. In any event, if you're reading this, today's strip is up and running! Thank you for your patience! Not much to say about this strip, except that I love Sugar Rush's mock salute in panel 2. And that it's hard to draw a comic on a computer that intermittently freezes!
  20. http://TheHeroesOfCRASH.com I mentioned last week that YouWillNeverKnow is a longtime fan, having submitted some redesigns of Miss Sunflower and Sister Sledgehammer for this year's traditional category, and having submitted multiple entries in past years' contests. Well, YWNK is such a dedicated fan, that he submitted an entry for BOTH categories this year, and won the Generated Fan Art category! He recreated all 10 of the student cast members using RPG Maker MV! His entry features (Clockwise from bottom left) Belt Boy, Sugar Rush, Unk, Gelatin Boy, Dodge, Titanium Maiden, Jackknife, Dino-Mo, Enticia, and Cannon. Thats quite an adventuring party! However, due to a lack of time (I had some family emergencies this week; don't worry, all is relatively well) and for the sake of simplicity, I only recreated my main three for his reward drawing. Maybe these three are the characters you start off with, and you need to find and unlock the other seven throughout the game...? I tweaked BB, Cannon, and TM's designs from his submission, partly because it's a little hard to make out all the details on their pixelated forms, and because I didn't want to give EVERYONE a blue cape. I made Cannon's into a scarf, which seemed a bit more anime-ninja-esque, and TM's into a neck accessory for her dress. I imagine that BB's some sort of knight or warrior and Cannon's a ninja, but I'm not sure what TM's class is in this drawing, based on her outfit. Perhaps she's an Amazon princess? Nah, if that were the case, she'd have a golden lasso and star-spangled swimsuit armor. If you have any thoughts as to what TM's class is, leave a comment. Perhaps you may even have some ideas as to what the other party members' classes are! Thanks again for the awesome fan art, YouWillNeverKnow! :-D This was quite a birthday treat!
  21. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Break out the syrup; Dino-Mo is about to make some robot pancakes. I'm quite proud of that last panel. Drawing an ankylosaurus doing a cannonball dive is pretty daunting, but finding visual references helped a lot. I drew her like a rather bulky person, then added the shell, horns, and tail afterward. But as daunting as that was, I was not looking forward to drawing the Necrobots. I'm simultaneously proud of and annoyed at my past self for coming up with such a weird, detailed design for these bots. Contrary to popular belief (or at least the TV Tropes page for my comic), Necrobots don't have actual emotions, or at least Necros didn't program them that way. I might be willing to consider that they have developed one emotion: annoyance. Somewhere in the back of my head, I wonder if my GPS gets annoyed when I choose not to to go with the route it's planned and don't ask it for an alternate route. Dino-Mo's a bit of a hypocrite for calling Dodge a nerd, then giving her attack an alliterative name that sounds like something straight out of Pokemon or Digimon. At least, that's my take on it. Just a reminder; my birthday is next month, and like always, what I want most is fan art! My annual contest has evolved into a bit of an art trade, so that anyone who submits me fan art or a video game avatar based on my characters will get some free art from me! But there's still two big prizes that only two people will win...! Check out the full rules on my site at TheHeroesOfCRASH.com today!
  22. Comic 4/7/18 - "Halloweenie"

TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Dodge isn't just a jock; he's also a fashion critic. But Necros can hurl more than dodgeballs and quips...! I'm not sure which I came up with first: Necros or the Necrobots. I honestly wish I could say I remembered how I came up with Necros' design, or why I decided on a skeletal theme, but I don't. However, they do remind me of a previous villain I drew up. When I was in junior high school, I came up with a superhero named Sidney the Mutant Scarab Beetle (I may put some form of him in the comic someday... unless you count a low-detail version of his face appearing on the top-left comic book cover in this strip: http://www.theheroesofcrash.com/2010Strip04-06.htm ). His foe was a mad scientist spider named Dr. Achnid, who had an army of spider-bots. The spider-bots resemebled their creator, much like the Necrobots resemble Necros with their triangular eyes, stripes, and skeletal theme. They used to look a bit more humanoid like Necros, too, until I changed their design to look scarier and more animal-like. The top three panels' backgrounds were initially a bit more sparse. When I saw how dull they looked, I added gradients to the first two panels. I didn't want to add a background, lest it distract from the action, so I used the gradients to bring focus to it instead. The dark edges of panel 3 were the result of me experimenting with a spray-paint tool in my program that I'd never tried before... I liked how it looked, and stuck with it. By the way, if you've been enjoying my comic, why not enter my contest? All you need to do is some artwork or a video game avatar based on my characters, submit them by May 19th, and you'll get some art in return! If your entry is the best, you may get a grand prize! The full rules are at TheHeroesOfCRASH.com, so check them out!
  23. Featuring the cast of "Alvery Nerveaux's Secret Case Files" (used with permission from the author)! TheHeroesOfCRASH.com It's that time of year again...! Every year for April Fool's Day, Cannon pranks someone from another webcomic (Whose characters I use with permission). This time around, the characters are from Alvery Nerveaux's Secret Case Files; the heroic Alvery Nerveaux herself, and the villainous Ardrienne Renelsoir. It's a funny, wacky comic filled with spies, robots, costumes, typewriters, and Weird Al references, and you can check it out through my Links pages, which have recently been updated with LOADS of new webcomics (Nine in the G/PG section, and eight in the PG-13/R section, all of which have been marked)! Drawing other artists' characters in my art style is always fun. :-) It is a bit tricky, though. I didn't want Alvery and Ardrienne to look like the same character with different hairstyles - I was already making them look similar to each other by giving them both opaque glasses. In the comic, Alvery's glasses always hide her eyes, while Ardrienne's are always seen through. I took some artistic license to keep Alvery's eyes hidden and made both characters' glasses opaque (You can blame the lighting in the room). But I digress; I made sure that Alvery and Ardrienne had different noses, face shapes, and body types, taking how they were drawn in the comic and exaggerating them a bit. Alvery has more curves, whereas Ardrienne is thinner. I made sure that for this comic, Ardrienne's body is a bit more angular, harsher, and more streamlined than Alvery's. Anyway, if you enjoyed this comic, then I suggest you do the following: 1. Go to my Links pages and visit Alvery Nerveaux's Secret Case Files, and get archive-binging! 2. When you finish Alvery, check out some of the other new Links I've added! 3. Enter my birthday contest; everyone who submits a proper entry by my birthday gets a prize! Click the button on my main page for the rules!
  24. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com Observant readers might be able to solve how TM and Cannon figured out where Belt Boy is. Can you? Have you been paying attention to the story and dialogue so far? If your detective skills aren't up to snuff, don't worry; I will reveal how they figured it out within this storyline, so stay tuned! Not much to say about the art for today's strip, but I do have a little bit of trivia: the streets of "Warburton/Hirsh" are named after the creators of Codename: Kids Next Door and Gravity Falls, respectively. Because I'm an animation nerd. And proud of it. This is the 700th canonical HoC strip! Woo-hoo! Hope you enjoyed the last 700 comics, and that you enjoyed the next 700! If you want to help me celebrate, why not contribute some art to my annual contest? Remember, the rules are on my main page, and ANYONE who submits a drawing or a game avatar based on my characters will get a prize! But there's only two GRAND prizes, so make 'em good! Check out the full rules on my website!
  25. TheHeroesOfCRASH.com My comic is having its annual contest, and EVERYONE gets some art in return! Either make some art or a game avatar based on my characters to enter! You can read more details by clicking on one of the attached images, and you can view the full rules by clicking on the button on my main page. Give it a try! It's loads of fun! Diligent readers may recognize that one of the two images is my announcement filler from last year, but with a new, introductory, 2-panel filler comic preceding it. Due to some family emergencies (and Valentine's Day), I wasn't able to get much work done on my comic until Friday night. And even then, I had to contend with another family emergency that had me driving around for a few hours until 1am, and some computer issues. But being the faithful comic creator that I am, I managed to stay up all night to finish this filler. True, I may have stayed awake more than 24 hours, but I haven't reached a delirious state of exhaustion or anythKUMQUATHIPPOPOTAMUSBOOGIEOOGIEOOGIE! ... I may need to lie down...
