Sketchbook Comic for Monday, Sep 25, 2023 Elliot is in female mode, Tedd appears to be ambiguously mixed. Odd.

Also, I hope this isn't the sort of experiment where looking for a certain result can affect the outcome and/or interpretation, as Tedd seems pretty convinced the results will confirm his hypothesis.

NP Comic for Thursday, Sep 21, 2023 Nanase appears to trust Tedd much more than she did earlier in the EGS comics. This arc should be interesting, establishing the details of how magic changed for them.

https://www.egscomics.com/comic/layers-048 I haven't commented on any of the recent comics, so I'll mention now that I think Elliot and Tedd look cute like that. Moving on to the issue of sleep: Personally, six hours is enough to get me through most of the day, but I'll be dragging by the end of the day if I don't get a nap in. If I haven't missed any sleep recently, 7 hours can usually get me through the day, but I can only manage it for a few days in a row. Eight hours is sustainable, but if I don't make any attempt to control how much sleep I get, and don't have any reason to get up before I'm fully rested, I tend to default to 9 hours. Unfortunately, much like Tedd and Dan, I have a tendency to get caught up in things and go to bed really late. I'm in a position where I can usually get all the sleep I need afterward, but it means I miss most or all of the morning (at least those part around and after dawn). This is really annoying, as I like mornings. (To make the situation downright frustrating, my ability to delay gratification decreases as I get tired, meaning deciding to get to bed on time doesn't actually help much.)

NP Comic for Thursday, Sep 14, 2023 Nanase wants to have her pre-change spell back. The way magic changed, I don't think that is possible. She may have a reasonable equivalent if she can narrow it down to a set of features she really needs, but she won't get the whole ball of wax back, the power has been reduced.

Comic for Monday, Sep 4, 2023 "Oh, he's back." - Snarky, dismissive, lack of contextual framework - 'Tedd lives here, I'm in his basement' "'Thanks for asking.' See? I was helpful." - Emotionally needy, missing the point, lacking confidence. Basically, an A.I. that is questioning its own existence (Sarah spots that Kevin is misconstruing the events. My only quibble is she is assuming he is capable of learning. I'd say TBD, prove it Kevin, show some actual progress, even if in a wrong direction.) "Speaking of lessons . . . Boyfriend! Please use magic so Ashley can practice observing a person casting spells." - Lacking the rudiments of polity. Ask Elliot his name, dipstick. "It's unlikely you'll be able to copy any yet, but it's possible, so pay super extra close attention!" - Pointless discouraging remark, badly structured request for Ashley to watch Elliot (already implied in previous statement). Note that all three people present in the last panel have shading indicating embarrassment, yet they have nothing to be embarrassed about. They are embarrassed for Kevin, for how inept he is. Kevin is his own self-parody. His flaws make little sense. In some cases he has too much knowledge for what he is; where did he acquire that knowledge when he has limited exposure and is made with a specific purpose in mind. His ability to misuse the word 'super' in a way that still makes sense defies credulity. Arthur tasked Kevin with training Ashley. Arthur actually tasked Ashley with raising his created incorrigible stick kid. (Kevin gave Ashley an order, so that would be an order of the stick, right?) Tedd, please refrain from unnecessary interaction with the stick. He's a defective A.I., and each conversation is new opportunity for error. God help them if they need to come up with a joint lesson plan. More importantly, why are Tedd's eyes glowing in the first panel?

Comic for Friday, Sep 1, 2023 So, this is the tie-in with the last NP comic arc. Mirabel is a very special chicken, she is a Layer of Reality. Do NOT drop the eggs. You do not want to deal with what happens.

Comic for Wednesday, Aug 30, 2023 It is logical that Kevin, being entirely non-biological, and going dormant when he isn't training someone thinks that is the only reason to exist. From the point of view of software design, he is lacking in user friendly interface features. Kevin is too early a version of what he is, at best the beta version. It is not good that Tedd is taking Kevin's criticism to heart. It show too much vulnerability for the position he's been thrust into. Kevin's P.O.V. is unhealthy, and Sarah is correct. He probably needs more context, if he's able to absorb it. I'd start with "Magic is a tool, a means to other goals, not an all consuming purpose in itself. That is not true for you because you were created with the purpose of training others in magic, but Kevin, you are also a tool, a means to an end." Maybe this arc will deal with Tedd's tendency to fixate at the expense of his other needs.

Comic for Monday, Aug 28, 2023 'Enormous'? I would have said 'Obnoxious'. I see him as the Scrappy of the comic. And, like Scrappy, he doesn't serve a purpose. It would have made more sense if Ashley had found an enchanted training spell book or a magic training iPad. He defies any form of logic. How does he see and hear? How does he think? How does he speak? Why, in the context of his single purpose, does he have emotions? What do those emotions reflect? He does not seem to have a personal ethos that matches Arthur. So where do the differences come from? My conclusion is that he is strictly comedy relief. When does he get 'face' time in the comic? When he says something dumb. So, caveat, when they do the movie version of EGS, Kevin will be the villain pulling the strings behind the evil. "Hey, Kevin, can you help us start a fire?" "Certainly. I know several trivial cantrips for creating fire." "Actually, if you'd just stick one of your ends in this pencil sharpener, we just need some tinder." Years later, Kevin is a magic training toothpick. "Practice good oral hygiene, kids. Clean your teeth."

Comic for Friday, Aug 18, 2023 Tedd is in squirrel form, because he is definitely acting squirrelly. In the first panel, Grace sort of propositions him (Probably not what Dan intended). Original Tedd would have been all over that. Current Tedd doesn't even notice. But that's what he needs, a damn good reason to go to bed. Kudos, Grace.

Comic for Wednesday, Aug 16, 2023 Tedd is a cat. I know that because of the commentary. Tedd does not look like a person transformed as a cat, does no look similar to Elliot when Elliot was transformed; Elliot had a cat-like face, Tedd looks human but with animal ears and a bushy tail. The features, ears, tail, are more fox-like in form, but the colors would be wrong. I hope they do not have school this morning.

Comic for Monday, Jul 31, 2023 This is, as far as I can recall, the most disconnected set of comic panels I've encountered that still attempt to hold some sense of a thread. Kudos? I like that Dan is puffing out Lavender's dimensionality and giving her an interest. Tedd is also wondering about her puffed out dimensionality as well. Her nice rack works on her human form, makes her more mom-like. If she had Susan's build, she'd look too young. Edward needs a hobby as well. Notice, he has no lines. Does he not seem excessively passive and absorbed in his work? I am curious what about Lavender attracts Edward, would like to hear it in his words. He's seen, maybe sees, her real form. She is a nice person, but do they really have much in common? I agree with Grace, people are weird. I should know, I am one. Lavender being large is not just an illusion. More than just tall, that makes her considerably more massive than a typical Uryuom. The most interesting thing about this is Dan's mods for Fallout 3, mentioned in the commentary. He is trying to be Tedd as much as he can.

Comic for Wednesday, Aug 9, 2023 Tedd, like George, tends to bog down in the details. I think he's right, though, he was not just a rando, he has an observed track record of solving magical issues, specifically noticed by Arthur.

True, they are not so impressive in a Midwest Summer, but when the Bermuda team marches into the Olympic Winter Games wearing these shorts, you know they are there to WIN! Tedd was previously on the record as being insecure regarding the default male Tedd form. It now appears Tedd is insecure about the default female Tedd form. Apparently simply being "Cute" or "Adorable" in either form is not sufficient. I wonder if there really are people who feel insecure about the way they look, then take drastic steps to change the way they look, only to end up just as insecure ( or more so ) about their new appearance? As long as Tedd does not attempt to emulate AD Liefeld, I suppose we can live with whatever happens.

Comic for Friday, Jul 28, 2023 The highlight of this comic is Grace's reaction to the restaurant pager. And that the meal is ready. Tedd's unofficial middle name is 'Fidget'. The next arc will be a surfing arc, no doubt . . . tough to do, because they are in the middle of the US.

Comic for Monday, Jul 24, 2023 It seems weird to me that it's already July 24. It seems like only a couple of weeks ago that the new year turned 2023. That BS about time perception, time flies by as you get older, it's weirdly true. Days used to crawl when I was a kid, now they whiz by. Edward makes a disconnected passing comment about his own being indecisive regarding the previous comic's events, resolving very little, although he does affirm that he did not have to take Tedd's toys away. Tedd then has a dialog with Lavender, Grace reflecting his reactions, that talks about anomalies with the transformation gun and Uryuom projections. Great. Observe the glacier, take photos, but be sure an clean up after yourself. We want to keep the environment as natural as possible for future tourists.

Comic for Monday, Jul 17, 2023 I feel like Edward is trapped by a retcon here. I wonder how much of what he''s felling has to do with friction with Arthur? Like 'X wasn't a problem until Arthur . . .' Arthur seems to work well with Tedd, and with the others he's interacted with. Magus is the only one he's cut no slack with.
