What Are You Listening To?

Recommended Posts

I am posting this here because it is something I an hearing, but it is annoying.

My upstairs neighbors running up and down the stairs about every three or four minutes. I have no idea why they are doing this, but they have been doing it for at least two hours.

Listened to the Doctor Who Big Finish Audio Drama "Dark Eyes" on my way to and from my family.  It's a good story, well-performed and with interesting characters.  It's also the first in a series of four, and I'm not sure when I'll get the chance to listen to the sequels.

Chain saws, leaf blowers, and a wood chipper.

Plus a small child that is very much not happy about something.  Child is inside, on the other side of the building, not out with the various means of destruction.   The "I'm not happy" noises come in pulses, about 3 minutes long, about every 15 minutes.  No sounds that would make me think it's any thing other than a baby with colic or what ever it is that makes proto-humans do that.

Here's four pieces of music that make me cry for one reason or another:

1) Emotion (Pokemon Black and White, 2010)

2) Forbidden Friendship (How to Train You Dragon, 2010)

3) Married Life (Up, 2009)

4) Requiem for the Brigadier General (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, 2009)

Just watched my brother beat the final boss in Splatoon. Fun boss. Awesome boss. And, more relevant to this thread, awesome music.

Especially the final phase: Calamari Inkantation.

The Warning.  Rocks last great hope.  Maybe not the last, but they are a great part of the future of crunchy rock. They now have both an EP and a record.

What's interesting about this game's soundtrack is that it's actually comes in 3 components corresponding to the parts of the mix-and-match planes that you have. Melody is attached to the weapon, harmony is attached to the fuselage, and drum/bass is attached to the engines. If you wanna get a bit nerdy, there are 3 components, and for each of those components there are like 5 pieces each. I suck at statistics but that's a lot of possible OSTs, at least around 125?

EDIT: I remembered how to statistics, it's around about 455 possible OSTS for this game.

Listening to the play-by-play call of the Richmond v Adelaide Aussie Rules Football preseason match replay in the background while I do my morning browsing. Frontier FiOS has finally added the HD feed of Fox Soccer Plus (for which I pay extra), so I'm going to watch/listen to as much of this season on it as I can.

The theme song for the Wonderful 101. THE theme song for the Wonderful 101.

There's two versions:

The one from the beginning of the game, "The Won-Stoppable Wonderful 100!"...

Danger's coming, looming large
So who's gonna make a stand?
One-hundred rangers are taking charge
The line is drawn in the sand
Knuckles crack
In two-hundred very different ways
But each and every one has got
The same thing to say...

(Red: Unite Morph!)
Because they're hearts beat as one
(Red: Unite Hand!)
And put the bad guys on the run

When the job's too ominous
For an average Jill or Joe
They go anonymous
And watch their powers grow!

Got no fame, no fortune to claim
Fighting for the status quo
Don that mask and take 'em to task
Hurry, now it's time to go!
They can do it, they can do it
'Cause they're super-sisters and bros...
The won-stoppable Wonderful
Wonderful One-Double-Oh!

Evil's coming
And you need a savior to appear
One-hundred rangers will take the lead
They gladly volunteer
Way up high
Can you spy them out in outer space?
Two-hundred eyes like fire,
Looking danger in the face...

(Blue: Unite Morph!)
A single heart like a blade
(Blue: Unite Sword!)
They dish out justice in spades

When the world is teetering
Hanging by a thread
They administer a beating
And stop the menace dead!

Go, go team!
Demolish those fiends!
Toss 'em in a garbage can!
Wipe the floor with aliens galore
'Til the world is spick and span!
They can do it, they can do it,
'Cause they're fearless daredevil pros...
The won-destructible Wonderful,
Wonderful One-Double-Oh!

Hope is coming to a crawl
And sadness fills the air
One-hundred rangers hide it all
Behind an iron stare
No one asks what they sacrifice, no
No one minds
But that won't hold them back
From saving all of humankind...

(Green: Unite Morph!)
They put their heartbreak aside
(Green: Unite Gun!)
And let their powers collide

Even if they're struggling
To lead a double life
They will keep on juggling
They'll pay the final price

One more clash, one bad guy to thrash
Calamity is closing in
One more fray to finish the day
Before tomorrow can begin
They can do it. they can do it
'Cause a hero never says no...
The won-beatable Wonderful,
Wonderful One-Double-Oh!

Got no fame, no fortune to claim
Fighting for the status quo
Don that mask and take 'em to task
Hurry, now it's time to go!
They can do it, they can do it
'Cause they're super sisters and bros...
The won-stoppable Wonderful,
Wonderful One-Double-Oh!

...and the one from the end of the game, "The Won-Stoppable Wonderful 101!"

I noticed yesterday when David and I were out and about that the police station about a mile south of me has a helipad.  That explains the rather frequent over flights. It might be where all the Tulsa police helicopters fly out of, given that there were 3 on the pad when I went by.  this makes me feel better about it.  And, yes I can tell the difference in the sounds that the police helicopters make vs the air ambulances that fly out of St. Francis and the news choppers.

And, no, I don't need to get in any of them.

So my brother bought Breath of the Wild for Wii U via eShop. The game uses music sparingly, only for tense moments or quiet ambiance, just to punctuate a scene.

For example, when riding horseback during the day, you get this:

And riding horseback at night gives you this:

The little riff at the end of both plays when you dismount the horse.

I have yet to hear a piece of music from this game I don't like.

Also, the Video Games thread. I really, really want to gush about this game, but the Video Games thread is months past the necromancy expiration date. Should I...? Wait, hang on. Gimme a sec.

Bugger. Keep us posted, okay? I don't trust that damn thing. With our luck you will soon have cultists beating down the door to have their dishes done.

I copied a bunch of music files from my dad's hard drive; I expect I'll end up with the CDs in question, but for now this was simpler, mom's got enough to think about.  So now I'm listening to Artisan, Bill Staines, and Stan Rogers.
