What Are You Listening To?

I know I've said it before, but my music mix for this morning reminded me, as rock bands go, REO Speedwagon definitely had a lot of girlfriend problems.

Junkies down in Brooklyn are going crazy
They're laughing just like hungry dogs in the street
Policemen are hiding behind the skirts of little girls
Their eyes have turned the color of frozen meat

Catholic school girls have thrown away their mascara
They chain themselves to the axles of Big Mack trucks
The sky is filled with herds of shivering angels
The fat lady laughs, "Gentlemen, start your trucks"

Debbie Denise, a song by Blue Oyster Cult, was written by Patti Smith as a poem.  The original version used “man” where the BOC song had “band.”  Makes for a whole other song.

This random post was brought to you via the goddess of random numbers selecting that song today as I was reading Discord.

“The Human says their knees feel 'funny'.  Not really in pain, but weird.  He's getting out of bed anyway, which is good. I wanted to help on the desk some this morning.  He's still moving slowly. There is lots of water in the air, which makes everything feel moist.” - Explorer the Cat.

I've added multiple DragonForce videos to “Random Stuff,” my fallback YouTube playlist.  Several of them are from their “official” page, which means they have tour date info.  I'm used to “closest show” being a couple hundred miles away.  Not with them.  Not even in the same country.

DragonForce - Event Tickets
SEP 27
Nearest event · Calgary, AB, Canada
Sat 7:30 PM · Grey Eagle Resort and Casino

According to MapQuest it's a 24hr, 47min drive. (1677.29 miles) Don't think I'll make that show.

The last time I thought about going to Calgary would have been to see the Jamaican Bobsled team and Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards.

Of course the thought was never strong enough to make me leave my TV and stand outside through a Canadian winter.

Back in the mid-90s I almost got sent to Calgary in February.  Thankfully, the powers that be decided that a regular installer would do this install, and they didn't need on-site software developer support.

Daft Punk's “Get Lucky,” as sung by a Romanian twentysomething lady, line of “She's up all night to the sun” sounds like “She's up all night to get some,” which, given the subject of the song, makes more sense.  That is the line for the singer in the next line of the song.

After a couple of weeks of weirdness, I've got YT “My Mix” playing a good balance of my current “special interest” groups  (Iron Cross, Blue Oyster Cult, DragonForce).  Now I need to add in REO Speedwagon and hope it doesn't break the mix.  Wish me luck.

My attempt at adding REO to the mix resulted in the mix being pure ---- Blue Oyster Cult.

YouTube is brain damaged.

OK, giving up on YT “My Mix” for a while. Playing  local files, even if that results in some mood whiplash from time to time.  I've removed the songs that are really not good for me.

Speaking of mood whiplash, Blue Oyster Cult's “In Thee,” followed by John Denver's “Thank God I'm a Country Boy,” is a bit of one.

Random play has reminded me that I have an eclectic music collection.

I've beaten the YouTube “My Mix” algorithm into submission.  Nice mix of my bands, and no repeats of songs, even if there are multiple videos of the same song.

With one exception.  “Marilyn my Bitterness” by Cruxshadows.  There are at least two videos of it.  I get two of them almost every time I launch My Mix.  Once back to back.  It's an OK song, but it's one of my “The world sucks, but it could be worse” songs, which isn't always what I need to hear.
