Well, we've been talking in IRC a bit, and a few of us would like to see a Tandy Arena TVTropes page.

Uber, OC, KoF and one or two others have expressed interest but I want to see what the general consensus is before I do anything.

So opinions?

People allowed to damn me: Lyre Harper, Toana (the original damner), Trip, DaveK, Killerfish, Tyris, sometimes Zemro.

Purple is too mainstream. As of 16 of December, all I say in Pink is considered silly and to be ignored.

Heh... you know, I'd thought about that as well. The only thing is that I'm not certain if we'd qualify on the site itself (I'm ignorant of how the editorial process works), and if we'd be better off just linking to the pages we think apply in a thread on the forums. Noteworthy either way, though.

Valedictions and the like

There's actually Tv Tropes page a page specifically for forum games.

http://tvtropes.org/...PlayByPostGames

Even if we don't qualify for an individual page, a small piece there is still possible.

There are no notability rules on TVTropes, we would be allowed a page as long as someone bothered to make it.

I suggested it knowing full well I wouldn't be able to contribute much, myself, however.

I was surprised to find that we weren't on said list, considering how long we've been around (and how many sites are on that list).

The Mad Scientist Wars has fewer members than Tandy, and it has it's own page.

As long as we can withstand the rush of people coming in from TVTropes, sure.

(btw, I ain't joking about that. another RP is on there that I go to and around 50-60% got there by TVTropes.)

EDIT: We qualify under the "There Is No Such Thing As Notability" rule, which basically says... that. http://tvtropes.org/...ingAsNotability )

I have to say that's the only problem I have with this. As long as we don't place anything about the arena on Tv Tropes, it remains "ours" so to speak. Other people will come to the forums and discover it or find it by accident and then join the forums from time to time but once the genie is let loose on Tv tropes, we'll have that many more people joining the forums specifically for the arena roleplay because they read about it on Tv tropes. Whether or not there are actually all that many, is questionable but part of me is worried about losing the community and uniqueness of the arena to a flood of new arrivals.

The way I see it, they will be handled like everyone else. If they are intelligent and willing to work with the system, we will welcome them with open arms. If they choose to work against the system, or try to force unwanted change, they will be chastised, villianized, shunned, and marginalized. Handling more than usual in a given time frame isn't much an issue... in fact, it may bring enough extra popularity to be very beneficial... though that might result in tighter entry constraints in next tournament or summat... or maybe just a larger tournament... wouldn't be that much more difficult if more mods were appointed and said mods were active.

Very few people actually go into the arena and stick with it, anyhow.

The problem I see isn't in who they are, it's in how many of them there are.

Look at everything that goes on the the arena: we have the individual exhibitions, we have the LBMs, we have the tournaments, we have the individual storylines, we have the group storylines, and we have all the interactions between everything. If you look at how difficult it is to keep track of things right now, and more importantly, how difficult it is to feel connected with all the goings on, it's not all that hard. but what if you multiply those numbers? A vast influx of new folks won't keep things simple and it could destroy the feeling of connection and ability to keep track of and integrate with the larger whole of the arena.

I'm worried about the feeling of tight community more than anything else here and I'm aware that this probably won't create some holocaust influx that destroys connectivity but this is a step, one of many small ones, towards being much more visible and I someone should to ask if it's really worth such things before we rush into them.

"Tight" community makes it a #$%&@ to get into. Likely, those groups will stay together. If there's more of such groups, that's fine. Even as it is, it takes a ludicrous amount of time to read every fight, LBM, etc. that goes through the Arena. I know, because at one point, I did it. Generally, you've got to be selective, skim some things, skip others, and look back if you missed anything that turns out to be important.

I don't think it will destroy connectivity. We had a little influx of new people recently with Alerane and they have integrated well. I don't think we are gonna get 20 new people a day or something, and even if we do get a load of new people. We are the olbies and we all know each other. So no lose of connectivity :P

Edit: And we have page http://tvtropes.org/...n/TheTandyArena Any objections to title? Or shall we just get troping?

I'd imagine that one fighter or another will cover most any trope out there.
Also, someone needs to index the page.
Also, I need to get myself an account there.

I assume we just want general tropes and not list every single characters tropes?

I wouldn't mind Caleb being called a Badass Normal.

As for an influx of new fighters as a result of the TV Tropes entry, I really don't know which would be a preferable outcome, to have more people joining the forums, and possibly reading the 910 webcomics, or staying within our tight-knit group, and avoid any trolls or spammers that might try to harass us.

Well, let's see what we got here...

EDIT Part the second: Ah. Thank you, Phoenixian. Though there may be some merit to saying more...
