This stone city has been defended in many mighty battles, but now it is time not for a war between the armies of middle-earth, but for a war between but two mighty champions.

"Ekess bensvelk vargach, Dame Myrrh Maroon," he called back up to her.
Though he had known who it was the moment he sensed her through the Void crystal (Slum wouldn't likely waste magic on flight with no purpose and Dara was sure the man they had gotten to replace Za would feel… different), There was no way this round to tell where he might be or who was there with him until he stepped through the portal. Thus, he had come prepared with all of his equipment, plus one stone from Tasnica sitting in a pouch off his belt and the buckler attached to his left bracer, which now sported some new decoration across its surface. Also hanging off Dara's crystal belt was the Light amulet as well as the Dragon amulet and loops of riverine chain. And again, he had the armored boots Vikki had made for him on. This was the finals, after all. There was no reason not to bring his full arsenal.
Dara reached behind him and drew both his scimitars, brought them together at the hilt, then spun it around to take up a position behind him as he adopted a variant on Water stance, keeping an eye on the sky and ready to react to whatever that magic Marian had building up. In his double-scimitar were already the Earth and Wind crystals, placed there in preparation for the fight.

Which is why the black magic was shaped with an effect that assumed a miss. Once it hit something, be it Daracaex's shield or the ground, it would burst and send bolts of Soul Lightning at Dara with wide, chaotic arcs. As always, the black lightning wasn't made of actual electricity but rather pure pain. Marian wanted to see how the draconic warrior dealt with that, she'd need to test his strengths and weaknesses before opening a full assault.

As the spell approached, Dara dropped his stance lower. Then he leapt upward, manifesting his scales and wings and using a burst from his boots to launch himself straight up at his opponent. He passed the ball of dark magic, seeing it pass by in a blur of motion. It hit the ground just to the side of where Dara had been standing, having tried to alter course to follow his rapid change in position, and burst in a flurry of black bolts that nipped at Dara's heels. He felt a small amount of the pain from the wide-area effect lance through his leg, but didn't let himself react to it. He'd definitely had worse, though a full blast of that energy might push the limit.
As he shot toward Myrrh, Dara spun his double scimitar to send several pale green wind blades flying in front of him towards his opponent, switching to wing power as soon as the momentum from the initial burst from his boots ran out.

Don't disappoint me now...
Marian shifted her grip on Executioner and moved from her slow descend to a charge at Daracaex, with the intent of meeting the draconic head-on. As Dara brought his blades forwards, Marian felt his magic flowing out and reacted accordingly. She folded her left wing over her front and engulfed it with flames, to shield against Dara's wind magic.
After taking the wind blades against her magically strengthened wing, Marian spread it wide again as she twisted her upper body, bringing her own weapon forwards to unleash a torrent of divine magic. It cascaded onto Dara like a tidal wave, although one made entirely of searing divine power.

Dara spun away from the blast, folding his wings around him, closing his eyes, and twisting the blades of his weapon around as he held it close. There was a blinding flash of light as Marian's attack appeared to clip his side, but a moment later, Dara had his eyes open and wings spread to send him swooping down a short ways, then up into a tight spiral that would hopefully earn him enough altitude to be even with or above Marian.
Dara silently thanked Vikki for assuring him that the Light amulet would also diffuse the energy of an offensive Light spell and fired three Earth arrows in quick succession at Marian, the crystal seeds at their tips already glowing from the ambient magic in the air. The crystals in the arrows would stick to whatever they hit and begin growing rapidly, feeding off ambient magic energy to fuel their growth. In Marian's case, she had more than enough energy around her for the crystals to consume and grow all around her, if any of the seeds should hit.

Excellent aerial manourvability, possibly better than my own. I should probably get to the ground at some point... probably more fun anyway, more sword-fighting then.
Dara's arrows were swift, but in his desire to change position before his counter-attack he had given Marian time to prepare. More than enough, in fact. Her free arm pointed at Daracaex, the angelic trailed his aerial movement carefully and projected a shield of energy to block the Earth Arrows. They would probably still grow, but never reach the angelic. Instead they would fall towards the ground, lacking a solid surface to cling to.
Then, in a moment of inspiration, Marian shattered her own shield and flung the shards at Dara in a flurry. That would barely pose a distraction to the experienced Knight, she figured, but it wasn't really meant as much more than just that. Marian pointed her left hand's index and middle fingers at Daracaex, keeping them trained on his movements as she built up energy. While it took a few precious seconds, the resulting lance of searing light was immensely fast and would prove quite difficult to dodge at this distance.

As he slipped into a shallow dive, Dara quickly grabbed the Light crystal from his belt and brought it to the buckler attached to his bracer. In the center of the buckler, it slid into place and caused the new designs on its face to pulse and glow brightly, with Light gathering at the edges, then expanding outward into a larger disc with the metal buckler and crystal at its center.
Dara used his height advantage to increase his speed and dive at Myrrh, slashing once, twice, three times with the Wind half of his double-scimitar using his right hand and keeping the shield in his left before him. Three flying wind blades sliced through the air as Myrrh's lance of Light shot at Dara, then curved slightly in mid-air to hit the center of Dara's shield. Another flash of light enveloped Dara and he shot out of it, adjusting his grip on his double-scimitar to spin it in a circle and come around on Myrrh in a powerful downward strike with the unnaturally-heavy Earth blade.

Her grin vanished like snow for the sun as the Earth Blade struck, it's heavy impact vibrating through Executioner; a dull resonance came from the massive weapon. Lacking any sort of foothold, Marian had nothing to brace against and was sent on a crash-course towards the rigid ground below, leaving only a short trail scarlet feathers that comically whirled around Dara, his momentum carrying him right in the middle of it, as if this were a Sunday morning cartoon.
Except they exploded nearly instantly, blasting Daracaex with an unnaturally red energy that would not just hurt but also weaken his muscles at every place it struck. While the effect wouldn't last long, if it were to get his wings the draconic would be in serious trouble.
At the same time Marian's grin returned as the angelic turned and twisted, gaining control over her rapid descent with deceptively little effort. She'd been far less surprised and defenceless than she'd appeared to be, playing along to trick Dara.
Marian curved her trajectory as she neared the ground and soared towards the gate of Minas Tirith, already cooking up her next trick. That gate looked very meltable... Marian /was/ a blacksmith, after all.

The net result had Dara plunging toward the mountainside. Out of the corner of his eye, he caught Myrrh flying away toward the gates of the city. Finally able to process the instinct that had helped him avoid the brunt of her counterattack, he realized that he had rarely seen Myrrh give ground. She was not using just her wings to keep herself in the air and she likely wouldn't have moved from where she was if she hadn't wanted to.
For now, though, Dara had to deal with his gravity problem before worrying about what had already happened. The outer edge of his right wing felt like jelly, but he was at least able to use it to slow his fall. Even so, he fell toward one of the larger buildings below, noting how close he'd fallen to the walls of the vertically-built city, lined with trebuchets and seeming ready for any attack. As Dara neared the roof, he beat his wings twice to slow himself more, then landed.
There, he let strength return to his wing for just a moment before dashing to the edge of the roof and throwing himself into the air once more. He felt Myrrh's aura in the general direction of the main gates, so Dara flew first towards the wall, then turned to follow the structure towards the front of the city. As he flew, he swapped Water into his chest and then used one of the blades of his double-scimitar to make a cut in his arm. Blood dripped from the wound as he flew along the wall. It was self-destructive, but it was the necessary first step to charging the Blood stone in his pouch.
Dara grew cautious as he approached the main gate, expanding his senses to search for the subtle feeling of moving Water that represented a living creature.

But then the metal started to turn red, spreading out from where Marian touched it. As she poured her energy into the metal, it heated up intensely and slowly began to melt. Rather than dripping down however, the molten metal gravitated towards Marian and flowed around her in a ring. The angelic blacksmith smiled as she kept up her work, using her senses to keep tabs on Dara's movement.

Once the water was flowing down the street in a steady stream, Dara took off again, completing his journey to the front gate area. He guided the water along with him, letting it simply flow along the streets below him rather than actually lifting it. It took less effort that way.
Dara reached the gates to see Marian with a stream of molten metal flying around her in a ring. He immediately dropped to the ground, pulled the Earth crystal out of his double-scimitar, and mentally grabbed his own stream of water, flinging it at Marian and her liquid metal, then following it with a burst of freezing breath that would hopefully cool that metal and possibly freeze on Marian.

As Dara flung water at her, small bits of metal flung themselves at Dara in response. Marian stood impassively as they cooled and hardened instantly, becoming a flurry of sharp projectiles. The angelic meanwhile reached for the cloth-wrapped objects that dangled from her belt, although they dragged across the ground now, and took one off.
With her radiance of heat protecting her from the icy dragonbreath, Marian undid the wrappings. The long cloth piled up on the floor, markings visible on the inside, as Marian revealed a sword so pitch-black that it seemed to absorb the light that touched it; a smaller kin to Slum's massive weapon. To Dara's Void Crystal-bestowed senses, should he decide to switch it back, the black blade did not exist.
"Behold the Dark Blade, Void. Slum delivers only the best work, as expected of my rival."
Marian pointed the blade at Daracaex and unleashed a stream of black flames. The dark fire was hot, far hotter than the heat around Marian, and it was... sticky, for a lack of a better word, and would burn until it had nothing to consume. It couldn't be extinguished by natural ways, only magic, as Dara would probably find out soon enough...

The bits of metal that had hit the buckler did not fall. Instead, they gravitated toward the outer rim, adding to Dara's shield. He faced Myrrh down calmly, watching her unwrap her new weapon. He had noticed it before. The area it occupied had been devoid of magic to his Void senses. That gave him a big hint for what it could be. Marian's words only confirmed it. Dara was familiar with Slum's Dark Blade already. If this was another of the same kind of weapon, Dara knew what it may be capable of.
He laughed at the name, slotting his own Void crystal into the empty slot of his weapon. "How appropriate," he said, "Void against Void."
Dara had not been idle during the metal assault and Myrrh readying her new sword. The rest of the water he had brought flowed up his legs and around him as he drew it all in towards himself. He had also moved the Dragon Amulet to his belt and drawn out the Riverine chain, holding it in the hand with his shield as his double-scimitar occupied his other hand. So equipped, he adopted a Water stance, ready for anything.
When the flames came, Dara danced out of the way, letting them stream past, then leapt upward, a boost from his boots carrying him into the air, towards Myrrh. The water around his body froze into icy armor and three rapid slashes of his double-scimitar sent more of the sharp air blades at his opponent. Dara knew Myrrh would likely just block them with her new weapon, but if she was focused on Dara and his wind blades coming from above, she wouldn't expect the riverine chain he had dropped snaking around her legs from below, tightening and seeking to trip her as Dara bore down on her with both hands making a powerful downward strike with his own Void blade.

"Knight against knight."
Thus, rather than using Void as Dara expected, the liquid rose up and spread out to form a shield against the wind blades. Infused with Marian's energy and blazing hot, the wind blades cut only halfway through the molten guard. Then it sent a multitude of barbed spines out at the descending Dara, giving off an image of a molten cactus or hedgehog...
Meanwhile, Marian reached for the other cloth-wrapped object. Hidden behind the liquid metal shield, the cloth caught fire and burned off entirely to 'reveal' (because Dara couldn't see, duh) another sword, mostly plain save for a crimson stone set into the base of the blade. Even though it's structure was damaged and slightly altered, corrupted by Marian's blood inside it, it was definitely a Fire Stone...
The angelic also noticed the Riverine chain, spotting the magical construct quite easily with her senses. For a moment she wondered how is stayed stable in this abundant heat, but then Marian decided there was clearly not enough fire. Concentrating on the watery chain, the angelic focussed a part of the heat she radiated onto it in an attempt to destroy it.

The riverine chain snaked around Myrrh's ankles, unharmed by her application of heat, but now extremely hot and pulling tight to constrict her feet.
Dara flew at Myrrh, double-scimitar raised, and saw the molten metal forming into a shield of spikes just before he reached her. He quickly closed his eyes so that he wouldn't be blinded, began drawing heavily on the ice aspect of the Water crystal, and slashed with his weapon anyway, just as he reached the molten shield. The spiked shield of molten metal vanished before him and with it, the entire remaining energy of the light amulet. Where there once was a wall between Dara and Myrrh, there now was a hole, and the sheer cold radiating off of Dara would make it difficult to keep it liquid to close the hole. Not that it would make a difference, considering that the Void blade came down on Marian through that hole in the same instant it was created, droplets of blood flying from Dara's cut hand and it swung in an arc.

She also had different weapons.
Following the block, Marian immediately shifted her grip and swung her other sword at Dara, trying to bisect the Draconic before he moved away. The blade burst into flames, adding power and range to the swing: even if the steel didn't connect it'd still unleash a wave of fire on Dara.
The riverine chain didn't seem to bother Marian. Heat had never really affected the angelic, who was used to intense flames and wielded them herself, nor did the constriction hinder her much. Marian began to emit purging, divine magic from her body, concentrated mostly on her legs, to get rid of the thing. If that failed, she could always use Void on it after she was done clashing blades with Dara.

That last part, of course, didn't exactly happened as planned. It went better. The instant Myrrh's magical purge hit the riverine chain, the water it was made of exploded. The force walls that held it in and kept it under pressure enough for it to remain a liquid despite Myrrh pumping heat into it were compromised and the water instantly turned to steam, rapidly expanding and shooting fragments of force wall shrapnel off in all directions. Dara's opponent might have thought nothing of the heat, but the impact of the chain exploding and the sharp shrapnel of tiny force walls were another matter.
Dara landed, stunned for a moment at the unexpected destruction of his chain. There were only a few, short lengths left after the explosion; pieces that hadn't been destroyed by whatever spell Myrrh had used. Dara pulled on the pieces, making them fly back towards him. It wasn't nearly a full chain, but it could still be useful. As he did so, he swiveled the blades of his weapon around and began firing Void arrows to keep the pressure on, one after another.

Then the riverine chain exploded. Luckily, the magic that Marian radiated outwards from her legs cushioned the impact and eroded the shards. The result was unpleasant and slightly bloody, but nowhere near as bad as it could have been. The long skirt that Marian wore prevented Dara from seeing anything from those results, however, save for some tatters and a bit of blood.
"You really get my blood flowing, draconic. I'm started to get excited~"
Marian took a deep breath and looked up at Daracaex... smiling in spite of the small cuts that now adorned her lower legs. As the frozen metal became molten again and formed a new shield, blocking any Void Arrows, the angelic just stood there and began to laugh. Her aura flared up like a pillar of light, making the air itself tremble around her, and blue glowing lines began to form on her left arm, spreading in curving shapes and patterns. Feathers were ripped from her wings, shooting up into the sky on the draft caused by her own power. All the while still smiling.
"Indulge me this question, sir Daracaex... why do you partake in this fight? What is your wish?"

"My wish is my own. If your wish is to hear it, you'll have wait." As he spoke, he grabbed the Wind crystal from his weapon and moved it to his chest. The remaining links of the riverine chain suddenly flew back at Marian's face, trying to curve around her shield from both sides and possibly creating a couple more explosions if she blocked with the already-raised Void. Then, in a flash, he whirled around, whipping his buckler around with him. Simultaneously, he suppressed the buckler's power and threw a powerful gust of wind forward as the Wind crystal slid into place. The result was the pieces of metal previously held by the shield shooting off at Myrrh in a scattershot. More a distraction than anything else, as Dara needed more space and less imminent threat of attack to work towards something more effective.
As soon as the metal was away, Dara gathered wind around him and jumped, using the air to extend his leap to the top of the wall, near another one of the catapults. He turned back toward Myrrh, removing the Earth crystal from his buckler and keeping that hand hovering at his belt, blood still dripping from the cut he had not re-covered with scales.
