Detective Block's faces are making me grin a lot ever since Demonic Duck's appearance on EGS.

A lot of unsaid clues. Then again, it is DB. Not a GB or a WB. WE STILL WANT TO KNOW WHO THE SUSPECT IS!

Agreeing that the Block's faces are funny.

From the commentary: " but never had it been his own literal metarphorical neck on the line. "

I'm not sure whether that line is hilarious enough to overcome my simmering anger at an abuse of "literal"

Well, it would be his actual neck, except for the fact that he doesn't have a neck.

Hmmmm ... the Celebrity Guess Star is unlikely to use lipstick, and isn't 12 WOMAN shoe size? Is the killer the woman from beginning?

If 12 is a woman's shoe size, she's got big feet. I'm size 13 shoe size and have a tough time finding shoes that size for me.

Well, I have no idea what size 12 is. I just googled and first replies were about woman shoes. Maybe first replies are woman shoes no matter the size :-)

... anyway, my size is 45 or 46, but that's obviously different scale.

Yeah, Dan's going by US shoe sizes, which are basically in inches, so a size 12 shoe is literally a foot long.

You mean 30.48cm? ...

(Tried to measure foot. Then measure shoe. Finding out the difference. WTF?)

... anyway, my shoes are bigger but not by much.

EDIT: Wiki disagree.

I dunno then, just measured my foot and heel to tip of the big toe was just shy of 12 inches, the only reason I go size 13 is because I have wide feet so I have to go a size higher for it to fit comfortably.

The wiki disagree in the formulae ;  it says male shoe size is 3x last length in inches - 24 ; by chance, if the last length in inches is 12, the result is still 12. Notable fact is that formulae for female shoe size is different.

On the other hand, the difference between length of my foot and length of my shoes was bigger than 3cm. I suspect that you are not SUPPOSED to buy shoes with last length matching your foot length - the foot have different shape, is "less pointy".

(On the metaphorical third hand, the shoes I was measuring were hiking boots and it was outside length. Also, I was using 16cm long ruler, so I might get different results using proper instruments I'm too lazy to find.)

Yeah I didn't mean the shoe size being the actual length of the shoe itself, but the length of the foot the shoe is made for.

But yeah women's and men's sizes seem to be different, men's sizes at least in north america tend to be in inches, but women's are different. Pant sizes are another one, I wear pants with a 42inch waist, but women's pants would be like a size 17.

a womens size 12 in the scale used in north america is equivalent to a mens size 10 1/2 (same scale), or a (European scale) size 44.

The difference between US adult/child shoe sizes - assuming same sex and age-category - is that 1 size is 1/3 inch.

However, size 1 is rather larger than 1/3 inch in ALL cases.

More or less the scale begins (childrens' size zero) at the smallest size that is typically necessary for infants, and increments by whatever fraction of an inch at a time from there. Above childrens' size thirteen, the scale goes to zero again and begins the adult scale. Thus, the number 12 on a size 12 has nothing to do with its total measurement, but merely that it is twenty-five increments larger than the smallest "normal" size.

Womens' numbered clothing sizes seem to obey a similar principle--size zero is arbitrarily set (originally as the smallest practical size for the applicable age demographic, but for adult women the zero point has been enlarged a bit in order to give "vanity" numbers that seem smaller--today's size 6 would have been a 14 or so during WWII). All other size numbers are based on being an offset from this "zero" point. The system survives because customers like to think of themselves as a size 6 or 8 or 10 instead of the size 32 or 36 or 40 that they would be if sizing went by chest or hip measurement in inches.

Perhaps it will be possible one day for everyone to be accurately measured and have clothes and shoes constructed for them as needed.

That's what I'm expecting.  Laser scan your feet, then 3D print a pair of shoes custom made, complete with adjustments for any medical/orthopedic issues.

Could be five years, could be twenty, but it should be within my lifetime. :-)

insert a block of wood into a computer controlled lathe or drill and you could have custom made Dutch Klompen in minutes.

Have you been watching How It's Made lately? ;)

The technology could be there literally tomorrow. It's only question of price. Also, it will not be LEATHER shoes, of course.
