I had to take an Uber to the Orthopaedic Specialists on Monday of this week, since Mrs. Prof was busy with cat business. There are multiple levels of Uber: UberX, which is your basic, no-frills transport, and Comfort, which offers newer, roomier vehicles with amenities like water, gum, mints, and even temperature and conversation preferences. It costs about $6 more for the ride I have to take out to Rockwall, TX, but that's all, so I went ahead and scheduled a Comfort ride—mainly because I was getting injections into both of my knee joints, and I wanted to treat myself.

As the driver pulled up to my house, she drove right past, turned around, and came back. Odd, but not unusual. She asked if I minded sitting in the back seat, to which I answered no. Right as I was about to put my foot in the vehicle, she said, "No, I don't wanna go to Rockwall," and almost drove off with her rear door open. She was extremely rude. I had to schedule a last-minute UberX pickup, which fortunately got me there on time.

Once at home, I complained about the first driver through the help system. Uber apologized and gave me $5 Uber cash or Uber credit (still not sure what the difference is), even though I wasn't charged for the Comfort drive. I assume I can use it on a future ride.

Unbelievable. I hope she got the sack.

Unfortunately, it can be difficult to "fire" independent contractors like Uber drivers

Maybe Uber won't use her, but there are other systems out there

And if Uber has trouble keeping drivers in your area, they might ignore what she did

The outside temperature is 52 degrees. The thermometer on my thermostat says it's 84 degrees. I have it set on 70. The wall I share with the other side of the house feels like a heater. I'm just about to turn on the Air Conditioner. Well maybe not but damn. The good side of this is that my gas bill is close to 30 bucks, which is about 1/3 it was this time last year.

I got notification that I can now do advance check-in for a Gulf of Mexico cruise that Mrs. Prof and I are taking in February next year (it's a convention cruise, and I'm a "special musical guest"). Said notice told me that I needed the following to check in online:

  • Ship name
  • Sail Date
  • Reservation number
  • Passport
  • Credit card

I rounded up everything mentioned and was, I thought, ready to check in. Alas, not so. They want a Security Photo, 960x960, taken in front of a white or off-white background, with other niggling little details. Why the fark didn't they mention that in their e-mail, Bob Gammage??? So, I back out of the sign-in process, hope that it's saved what I've entered, and wait until Mrs. Prof gets home and we both get back from my doctor's appointment so that we can take lousy pictures of each other on my cell phone. Augh.

Today is a repeat of this, to include the temperatures.  My heater, set on 70 degrees, kicked on exactly 4 times in the month.   This makes the living room quite warm, but the bed room and bathroom are cold as <redacted>.  I don't know why this bothers me so much, I mean it's reducing my gas bill by a large chunk of chance, but I think it has something to do with free will and/or choice.

I just had a less than a second long power glitch. Took out my router and one of my screens one my workstation/server machine. Needed to reboot both. I'm taking that as a sign I should go back to bed.

I woke up at 03:30 this morning.  At 04:05 I got out of bed.  It's now 5:40 and I'm wired for sound, as the saying goes.  I have this feeling that running out of my "take at bedtime" meds had a stronger effect than I though they did.  I get my refill Monday, so it's only been two days with out.

Bleh,.

<Edit:  It's now 7:30 and I think I can go back to bed now.  At any rate I'm going to try>

<Edit Edit: Didn't work.  This afternoon's game of D&D is going to be tricky I can tell.>

After three days and many trips to the DMV and the local credit union, I finally have a valid Kansas ID and what passes for a checking account. Good news, I can still use my old check pads. Bad news, I need a new debit card. This has been a spoon eating start of the week.   Of course I don't really have an ID yet, I have two slips of paper that says it's an ID, but it's not the real ID card, for example.  Thankfully the credit union took it, so there is that.  Total cost, including a taxi ride out to the DMV on Monday is just over 80 bucks, of which 35 is in the "new" checking account.  I'm going to take a nap now.

I've got at least three projects to be working on today but I can't seem to get going on any of them, and this is after taking 5mg of Adderall.   I'm about to say "punt" and just go back to bed and read EGS from about 2010 to current.

I've decided to punt.  Me and the cat are back in bed and I'm reading EGS from "New and Old Flames" on to current.

The sheriff office just showed up to evict my house neighbour. I'm of mixed minds about this.   It's annoying because they are noisy and banging on the door and what not.  I suspect this is a waste of time any way as he (my neighbour) told me back in December that he was moving out and I haven't heard or seen him in the last week or so.

How do you remove someone who is not there?

You change the locks to make sure they don't come back.  I suspect that the rental office is going to send some one over in the next few days to clean out the furniture from the place.

Well, I'm legally a Kansas resident now. Got my ID card in the mail today. And there was much rejoicing among the people...

I've been awake for roughly 5 hours now. I didn't feel like I could go back to sleep when i woke up at 4:08 this morning. I'm starting to feel like I could now. Going to try any way. Failing that I have about a zillion pages of PDFs to read.

The rental agent was just by to record what the house looked like after he was evicted.  I heard her in the house and knowing that no one should be in that part of the house I went over to see what was up.  Derick, my ex-neighbour  left all or almost all of his stuff behind, and in a major mess.  This isn't going to end well I suspect.  Of course first they have to find him as he just sorta vanished.  He's not getting his deposit back, that much I'm sure of.

Can't sleep still.  Not sure what I'm going to do.  Think I'm going to go for my daily walk, which I wouldn't normally do because of the weather, but it's stopped raining/snowing for a while.
