      Welcome!   03/05/2016

Welcome, everyone, to the new 910CMX Community Forums. I'm still working on getting them running, so things may change.  If you're a 910 Comic creator and need your forum recreated, let me know and I'll get on it right away.  I'll do my best to make this new place as fun as the last one!

Do I really want to create a new user account on websites I only used occasionally in the first place?

Depends on the website in question.  I have some that I visit almost exactly once a month that I would need to keep the correct data in (these being the ones that let me pay my bills on line)  Other, not so much and I often create a new account on them.

I am seriously considering disconnecting my landline. It has become a conduit for nothing but spam calls. I have to watch it for the rare call from Mrs. Prof or one of my doctors, but by far spam calls outweigh legitimate calls on this thing. Today has been particularly bad - there have been five calls this morning, four of which have been in the last hour and have been spam. The fifth was from a doctor and came much earlier this morning.

The only reason I don't cut the cord is in case of dire power emergencies, when even service is compromised. Landlines are usually the last things to go. However, I don't know if I even want that security blanket so badly if the price I have to pay is the incessant ringing of robocallers.

I unplugged my phone nearly five years ago

Certainly some things might have gone better, but overall it was just one more expense I did not need

When I was a kid, the thought of living in a house without a phone on the wall would have been absurd

But now that my phone is in my pocket, the fact that there is no physical line from Ma Bell into the residence isn't so bad

Last year, about a week before election day, I went to the Early Voting site and waited about an hour in a line full of obnoxious voters to cast my ballot

Today, I did the same thing and was in and out so fast the bus I had been riding was still at the transfer station, the driver talking to another driver

Where were all of last year's overbearing political experts demanding my attention?  Don't they know that these small elections with only a few candidates and issues shape what will be the big mid term and general elections in a year or three?

Since I've moved I'm not sure where my voting site is.  I suspect it's the same place as before, but I'm not sure.  I need to find that out soonish.

Worst case scenario is you may need to repeat the entire registration process

That would require going to the DMV again, as I registered as part of getting my state ID.  I'd really like to avoid that.

The DMV, proof that Hell is real.

You assume much saying that they haven't taken over.

I now have a phoneless cord.

I have several.  Plus a whole box of phoneless cables!

As well as adapters, wires, plugs, extensions, splitters, coaxial ends, telephone plugs . . .

Do these things multiply when left alone in a dark closet?

Yeah, they do a dance and get all tangled up as well.  Sorta like coat hangers.

I cleaned house due to a move to a much smaller place. I have little of that stuff left. If it wasn't something I pictured using in five years, or might need and was irreplaceable, it got given, donated, or tossed. No phone paraphernalia remains.

Or, a bit more like...

That is what snakes do when they mate; that might literally be snake pornography.

The serpent on the upper left appears to be suffering from reptile dysfunction.

But they don't do it on purpose - it's just that they're so much like cables, when they get too close together they automatically tangle.

It's a little after 2.  I don't have a rubber mallet so I can't make the bookcase.  I've ordered on so it should be here Monday.  I'm cold.  Thinking seriously about laying down under my pile of blankets and reading in bed.  Problem with doing that is the very real possibility of falling asleep way to early in the day.

Pour one out for Godzilla. Didn't survive the move and I don't feel like trouble shooting it. I've installed Xubuntu on my Windows desktop and am using it now. Need to install Dropbox and then download all my stuff. Then load up my Perl modules. I've renamed the WinDesk machine Godzilla.
