      Welcome!   03/05/2016

Welcome, everyone, to the new 910CMX Community Forums. I'm still working on getting them running, so things may change.  If you're a 910 Comic creator and need your forum recreated, let me know and I'll get on it right away.  I'll do my best to make this new place as fun as the last one!

We Begin Anew!

Recommended Posts

It's been a week since the crash, and I'm starting everything up fresh.  Everyone will have to create a new account and all forums are emtpy, for now, so lets fill them up!

Let me know if there's anything missing and I'll make sure to get it back in.

We're still working on the data recovery, but that could take a while.

Good luck with recovery. There are definitely posts I would like preserved.

Meanwhile, can you get the option of editing the source back? I mean, write the posts in bbcode instead of WYSIWYG.

Yes, this please. BBCode or basic HTML or something other than in addition to WYSIWYG. (I'd also take Markdown).

Also, there's a bit of a bug in the profile area. When putting in date of birth, both the first two boxes are the month of birth...and no option for the day. And it throws an error if you don't put at least the month and the day.

Good luck with the data recovery. I'd like to see some of the stuff preserved as well.

EDIT: Also, another bug report: The "Location" info underneath the user's post count has formatting issues. If you just put "Texas - USA" in the box, for instance, what appears to show is "LocationTexas - USA". So I had to put ": Texas - USA" to make it look right.

Maybe a bug report forum / subforum would be a good idea?

EDIT2: Also, I know this is probably a big ask, but is there any possibility of a dark theme (Grey or black) being offered? I like the general design and layout, but the bright white is quite blinding.

Anyone else having the problem where birthday is showing up month/month/year in the profile editor? (Which is causing an error since a day can't be selected)

Anyway, surprised accounts didn't get carried over at the very least. Any particular reason for that? Was everything just gone?

Speaking from experience working on the backend of another forum - When Robin says we're starting fresh, he means FRESH. The forum is starting from scratch due to the accident regarding the old server and its hard drives.

Now - speaking personally as an IT tech primarily and admin/server maintainer on another forum secondarily - it should be possible to get the old forum data from the old server drives, BUT that will take a fair bit of time (and probably money) depending on the level of technical work needed to be done to rescue the data. Whilst it would be nice to get it all back, there likely WILL be a point where the cost-benefit ratio doesn't work in favour of getting the data back.

I'm so glad you're restarting the forum from scratch. It was getting way too crowded with boards that weren't being used.

BTW, do you suppose you could bring back the Grrl Power forum?

EDIT: Now that I think about it, C.D. Rudd's comics aren't there, either...

Fixed.  We've now set it so that all community.910cmx.com link should force the https.

... unfortunately, still doesn't seem to work. Announcements are http, forums are http, profiles are http ... only images and styles are https on https://community.910cmx.com/ ... at least as I see it (can it be cache or something?).

Yeah, and if you load the page under https rather than http, marking forums as read by clicking on the bubbles doesn't work.

Oh yeah, and I thought entering 910cmx.com would load the forums. I was so wrong.

Sure, it is a very nice message from Thom, but still...

Another bugreport: Something broke fonts on site. Seems it's called ACME.

Yeah, the fonts look...off. Awkward, in a way. Titles are condensed and bold in bad ways, the forum headers are outlined hideously in white.

Also, the report post buttons are gigantic and seem like they're from a different site entirely. One designed 5 or 10 years ago.

EDIT: Yeah, boy. The fonts and those buttons are really bad. Woof. I can't seem to get over them. Also, because of the font change the spacing of the stuff in the navbar is off. The house icon is touching the edge of the blue box, and the "Mark site read" link is as well.

Additionally, the background color for "drag files here to attach" makes the "choose files" link near impossible to read. (Also, @Zorua pointed out that at the bottom of threads the navigation buttons [ie: "Go To Topic Listing"] should probably have a background color).

Any chance for editation not being white on white background? (except in source mode)

I don't know if anyone else is experiencing this bit I can only see to edit posts in source mode.

A quick and dirty stopgap fix, would be to go through the boards code and replace all instances of white text with light gray. The bits that are on black & dark blue backgrounds would still be clearly visible, but the ones on light/white backgrounds would just be faint instead of completely invisible.

Cause the edit screen isn't the only place this site missuses white text. Go to someone's profile and hit [CTRL] [A], you'll see words appear outa nowhere for an example most people probably missed.

It's not perfect but it's better than what we have.

Whoa you're right. The "X replied to Y's topic in Z".

... frankly, the rule for "div p.ipsType_blendLinks, div p.ipsType_blendLinks span.ipsType_light" is very suspicious, as it sets both white text AND white background. For the source it's at least not the same rule.
