Things That Make You Happy

Jeezus H. Gut-Blowing Christ!

If you'll recall, many years ago a class-action lawsuit was launched against Spotify for streaming songs without permission of the artists who own the songs. That lawsuit was settled a year or so ago. I'm part of the settlement, for Grabbag. I've been getting a bunch of legal minutiae that I've had to keep up with, to the point where I was beginning to expect a check of eleven dollars or something similarly puny. Well, I got my check today.

$711.92!!!

It nearly knocked the wind out of me. Good lord, how many streams did they have to account for in order to come up with such a sum for one song??? I'm still staggered. This is going to help pay off a huge medical bill from my last toe amputation.

That's good news!

You said a mouthful. My son's a Spotify user, so he got on and looked things up. Couldn't find my original version of the song, but he found a metric assload of cover versions. That must have had something to do with it.

He also Googled the dates of the lawsuit. It was filed in 2012, settled in 2017, and the payout worked out in 2019. Eight years it took for me to see money from something I originally had no hope for when I signed up.

Civil court cases seem to take forever to run.

I am glad to see that the forum is back online. Who else has been contacted to let them know?

I've posted that it's back online in the EGS Discord server and in the EGS Facebook group.

Do you think anyone has PMed The Old Hack?

The Hack was among my targets

If anyone has other means of communication, please use them

I asked Thoth to write a general announcement where any interested party might read it, only to later remember that most EGS fans are not particularly literate in Hieroglyphics

This year's running of the Indianapolis 500, the 105th installment of said race, made me very happy. It was one hell of a race, and it saw a new inductee into the four-time winner club: Helio Castroneves of Sao Paolo, Brazil. He joins A.J. Foyt, Al Unser, and Rick Mears in that exclusive club.

This year's race was also a record smasher. Check out the big number of records broken or tied.

I got my new debit card.  Not going to transfer funds from that account to the credit union account because by the time I got there they would be closed.  Plus heat.  On my list of things to do in the morning.

Mrs. Prof and I are getting ready to fly out to Las Vegas on Wednesday evening to view several sessions of the taping of the TV show "Battlebots." We'll be there through Saturday evening, when we return. We'll see up to and including the semi-final matches, but we won't be able to stay to see the finals. :(

We'll be staying at the Bally Hotel & Casino, right across the street from where they'll be taping the show. I should be able to walk to the arena with my cane, but we'll find out soon enough when we see our first session on Thursday. I don't have the details on the session times & lengths, so I don't know how my stamina is going to hold out. I figure I'm going to be pretty well worn out Thursday night.

This is the first trip we've taken in ages where we don't have anything to do, other than attend something. We don't have to get someone's presents ready, we don't have to do a presentation, we don't have an anniversary to make sure we celebrate properly. On my side, I'm not stressed out, but Mrs. Prof is getting a bit of pre-trip anxiety for things she wants done at the last minute. Me, I'm happy to be looking forward to the trip, as well as to a bit of time away from the computer. (I won't be looking forward to the hundreds of e-mails waiting for me when I get back. -_- )

If anybody has any requests for things you'd like us to bring back, or suggestions for things for us to do while we're there (we're not visiting the Tupac Memorial - neither of us is a hip-hop fan), please feel free to post here and we'll see what we can do!

Battlebots is on the Discovery channel. It's carried as a basic service by most cable outlets. I've got YouTube TV, and they carry it on their base package.

I think Discovery has their own streaming service. I'll look into it.  How much is YouTube TV a month?  I seem to recall that it's rather high.

The base plan is $64.99 a month, but you've got to remember that it's a full-service provider. Everything is on there that you'd normally get on a regular cable or satellite service.

That is just shy of what I pay for internet access and puts my total bill up to a little more than I was paying Cox cable.  Not Happening.  I just checked,, Discovery+ is only 6.49 for ad free, and that include a crap ton of channels.  I've subscribed.

I'm glad for you.  My social anxiety disorder would prevent me from going to a place like that.  I'm planing on going to Pennsic next year, which will be the largest event I've gone to.   Planing on getting a lot of anxiety drugs to take with me.

I don’t care for the whole testosterone-dripping masculinity thing that he exemplified, in which you have to either be Top Dog or you’re nobody at best or shameful at worst.
