A few times. But Futurama is entirely comedy-focussed. It's only natural that people do things that nobody would actually do. Because it's comedy.

That aside, if we cut it down to just this comic, there is still comedy and comedy.

Since it seems to matter, Sailor Ranko is predominantly a slapstick martial arts comedy, but there will be story arcs that are dramatic and others that are action and more. But at the core, it's humor. So, if Ranma can be teased about his condition and it will make the reader laugh, it will happen to him.

And Yes PEOPLE do tease people and most of the teasing related to sports related activities amongst young men is that the person being teased is normally called a girl. Now no MATTER what SKILL level you are at if you take a fall like that turn into a girl people will not let you live it down. EVEN if you are the GOLDERN child of the group.

Trip, you are completely failing to see the point. If you are an expert martial artist I very much doubt you will be called a girl, unless you are one, for the simple reason that people will be afraid that you kick their butts.

No, you are the one failing to see our point. Both FC and I have said it: good fighting ability is an excellent deterrent.

And even without super martial art skills it works. From personal experince I can tell you the following:
When I started High School I was almost immediatly exiled from the rest of the class. People made fun of me for reasons I won't tell.
Once I grabbed someone by his face and pushed him through three desks (not literally through them, they moved aside under the force), I had five and a half years of High School without ever being made fun of again. They found other victims, who didn't try to maim them. People don't like that.

So yes, I can honestly say that people will let it go, provided that you can give them the proper motivation...

You constantly fail to see the point that no matter how good you are, no matter how good you think you are, that if you make one mistake and it is a really public mistake you will be teased about it.

In all honesty, both of you are missing the REAL point of this. Whether or not it should be a deterrent or not is completely irrelevant, because, in the anime and manga, it WAS a deterrent. Ranma didn't get teased because the other characters liked him/were afraid of the fact that he beat up the school bully on his first day. The closest thing that would happen would be the occasional attempt to splash him with cold water in the changing rooms, and I'm not even sure if that was canon.
As they say, there is no arguing with canon. You can't go up to J.K. Rowling and tell her that Harry Potter doesn't like to eat broccoli when she says he does.

What school system are you talking about? In the USA high school only lasts four years unless you fail a year. British perhaps?

Yeesh, short high school. What Year do you go up to? Also, Cyber is from the Netherlands. In Australia High school is 5 years in Queensland and 6 in Victoria.

Or is the 4 years simply meaning that you count middle school as some entirely separate level of education?

Our High School lasts 4-6 years, depending on which level (VMBO, HAVO or VWO) you take. Mine was actually only 5, but I failed the fourth year.
We don't have Middle School, by the way.

We call Middleschool, Junior High. So, it is actually 6 years long.
