I would say that's a significant statistic, regardless of the doctor's possible bias. Git yerself treated.

...but a second opinion might be in order.

Got a call from Spine Team Texas today (that's really what they call themselves). They wanted to make sure I scheduled physical therapy a couple of weeks after my diagnostic spine injection procedure on the 30th. Bit of a problem with that—I've got an appointment with an electrophysiologist on April 4th to get a long-term (three weeks or so) monitor to figure out what's going on with my heart and all the PVCs. I don't know how physical therapy sessions are going to affect the monitoring.

That, plus I still haven't stopped coughing yet.

Too many damned doctors.

Need to get them all on the same phone call or email chain and get them to sort out the best timing among themselves.  (And yes, I realize how difficult getting hold of even one doctor can be, let alone several at once.)

Have them all stuffed into the same cage and send in a lion tamer armed with whip and chair. That might work.

I think current health insurance regulations only permit the office receptionist to do that to physicians and surgeons.

In more serious gnus, I finally got to see my dentist.

Apparently, I did everything right.  But even so, the crown could not be saved.  There is just nothing there to which she can glue the old tooth.

When I get back from my trip, I'll see the Oral Hershiser to get what's left of the old tooth extracted.  Then my Dentist will install a bridge.  And at the price she quoted, I think it's a toll bridge.

I hope they made a good pitch for the procedure.

Found a good reason for part of why I've felt like crap the last few days (including the crescendo of coughing). Check out the charts here:

https://www.pollen.com/forecast/current/pollen/75043

They rank pollen on a scale of zero to 12. Yesterday was an 11.1. The day before was an 11.6.

Today is predicted to be an 11.7. Ohmydearlord. I've got to get out in that stuff an get my truck inspected, then go to a psych doctor appointment.

Forget paper breathing masks. I need a respirator mask.

OMG  That really sucks.  At least it should be getting towards the end of tree pollen season.

Today's pollen.com prediction is a 10.9 out of 12, likely due to some severe storms we got north and south of the D/FW area last night which must have knocked some of the pollen out of the air.. My coughing isn't quite as bad, but I'm still going to my doctor's appointment to discuss allergy and chest tightness problems. Also need to drop off a prescription for physical therapy prescription at the therapy place next door to my doctor's office.

Finally went to the doctor's office for the coughing. It got worse on the way. I was dehydrated as hell by the time I got to the office.

The doctor ordered a chest X-ray and a pulmonary volume test—both were okay. His verdict was "reactive lungs" due to the recent ridiculous amount of pollen in the air. His orders: keep using my Ventolin inhaler, my Xyzal, and my hydroxyzine. Add Zantac as an H2 histamine blocker and Azelastine nasal spray to attack the nasal dripping. He also gave me the third Kenalog steroid shot I've had over the past two months. Here's hoping it doesn't mess with my heart.

Went next door to Rehab Management afterward and gave them my prescription for physical therapy from the spine doctor. They looked at me like I'd walked in and dropped my pants. After a few minutes of utter confusion, the receptionist went back and talked to someone who knew how to handle the situation. Problem semi-solved about five minutes later. Expecting a phone call later today for my personal info after they call my spine doctor and my primary care doctor.

Out of spite, I bought two bottles of Crystal Pepsi when I went to pick up my nose spray at the CVS pharmacy. Don't know who I'm spiting, but I'm ticked off at someone today. Maybe just life in general.

I just woke up with the left-hand side of my head stuffed up.  So, I took a pseudoephedrine and a Benadryl which means I'm going to have a weird mental state for awhile.  I am less than fully gruntled by this.

A word from my doctor concerning this: if you ever do migrate to Afrin nose spray, you know you should only do it for three days at a time. What you might not know is that you need to be off of it for three days as well. I was doing three days on / one day off (i.e., using Sudafed), which is wrong. It should be 3 on / 3 off (Sudafed days).

And knowing is half the battle.

I'm going to make another attempt at finding this information, as so far neither Google nor several other message boards have been able to help.

Years ago (not ancient times, maybe ten or fifteen), I came across an assertion that you could tell how old someone was by how they finished the phrase, "Now you know...."

The youngest generation says, "....and knowing is half the battle!"  This is from the G I Joe cartoon series.

The middle generation would say, "....the rest of the story."  This is from a radio personality, Paul Harvey, who used the phrase as a sign-off as well as the name of his show.

The older generation would say.....something which I cannot remember.  I think it was a phrase from a news anchor, but I'm not positive about that.

Everybody, ask your parents/grandparents/mentors/chatty neighbors, see if you can help me with this one!  I don't know why I'm so determined to find out the third phrase and its source, but for some reason, it's like a pebble in my shoe.

Stupid, no-brain doctor's billing departments ...

Mrs. Prof just spent the last hour on the phone with several people trying to work out the garbage situation we almost found ourselves in concerning the diagnostic spine procedure. They had me scheduled to go to their own outpatient facility, where the doctor was in our insurance network, but the anesthesiologist was not.

Whoa, Nelly. Put on the brakes right there and go no farther. Several thousand bucks were not coming out of our bank account for that reason.

After several rounds of Mrs. Prof saying, "What part of 'No, we're not doing that' do you not understand?", we finally got them to move the procedure to the main hospital right across the walkway from the doctor's office, where we've been before and where we know that everything is covered in-network. They had to push back the procedure to April 4th, but I don't care about that. I'll also probably have to deal with a pissed-off doctor, but he's going to have to deal with a pissed-off husband and wife. He's on the losing end of that proposition.

At what point does it become worth it to take your business to a different doc?

Mrs. Prof threatened to do that several times during that hour. That lit a match under their collective arses.

If the doc is pissed off because you didn't want to pay a medical specialist out-of-pocket, that's incentive to move on.

I don't know if he's pissed or not. I'll only know when we meet him on the day of the procedure. If his mood is anything less than positive, cordial, and/or apologetic, we will make the decision at that time. I don't need a pissed-off doctor shoving eight needles into my spine.

Definitely on the "bad thing" list....

Had a bit of a scare tonight. Almost wound up going to the emergency room, thanks to my "reactive lungs." I got started on about a 90-minute-long coughing fit that would not let up. I took my Ventolin inhaler, but that seemed to make it worse. I managed to get my nighttime medicines and nose spray in. After that (plus a cup of the leftover tomato basil soup), my coughing finally started to calm down. It was mostly under control after about another 30 minutes, at which point Mrs. Prof decided it was safe for her to go to bed.

I'm still a bit shaky and still coughing occasionally, but not like I was. I can do without another fit like that.

Good Lord :( Do take good care of yourself, Prof. And yes, I know that Mrs. Prof is looking out for you, which is a source of relief for me, but still. (Give her my regards and my thanks for the good job she is doing.)

I hope that bollocking tree pollen crap starts tapering off soon.
