7:12 a.m. CDT 20170812. Well, that didn't last long. I'm up already. Gave up and got coffee already. (Mrs. Prof got up briefly afterward.) Overall pain level around a six, with a seven in the ear and the foot.

I am really sorry to hear. If you do have to go see another doctor, some advice. Your current doctor seems to have his head screwed on straight. Ask him for a recommendation of whom to go see.

Goes without saying. I'll ask for a referral to another doctor. It's the Texas Health *referral* department that worries me (Texas Health is the company he's affiliated with)—they sent me to Spine Team Texas. I'll see if he can put a more direct touch on it this time. He knows what he's doing—they don't always know.

BTW, if you want to see who I'm going to, go here:

7:32 p.m. CDT 20170812. Mrs. Prof came home bearing cheesesteaks about a half hour ago. After the Zofran emergency, I was hesitant to partake, but it seemed to be just what I needed. I guess I'd let my stomach get too empty earlier. Even now, though, I only ate half of mine. I don't want to trigger another emergency.

I did discuss the Zofran emergencies with my primary doctor. He seemed to understand what I'm going through, although he didn't see them as something unusual for a post-op bariatric person like me.

9:39 p.m. CDT 20170812. I've discussed it with Mrs. Prof. I tried to take a short nap after she got home, but pain from my ear, hip, and foot are just too bad.

I'm going up to 20mg at night, effective tonight at 10pm.

My two daytime doses will stay at 15mg each, for a total of 30mg. The total daily dose will go from 45mg to 50mg. Mrs. Prof agreed with the increase.

Damn it.

I am sorry, old friend. Struggling with medication can be a terrible thing. :/

Thank you for the commiserations. Saturday was a rough day. Sunday will be rougher. Mrs. Prof is going to be out on the TNR group's "Feral Cat Roundup" all day and most of the night. Any local cat histrionics will be left for me to deal with.

I woke up at about 5:45 a.m. CDT after going to bed at around midnight. Just over 5 hours of sleep, but this one's my own fault. Mrs. Prof and I were up watching TV, listening to passing storms, and waiting for the Drum Corps International World Championship Final scores to come in. Now, I'm sitting here, trying to decide if I can go back to sleep or if I should just get some coffee. The 20mg dose has faded away, to coin a phrase, and I've just taken my first 15mg dose of the day and am waiting for it to kick in. Coffee usually helps. It helps me warm up, too, because if there's one word I can use to describe the way Mrs. Prof has set this house, it's cold. Coffee gets me past the morning chill.

Screw it. Too many arguments in favor of coffee. I'm getting a cup.

1:58 p.m. CDT 20170813. I do not remember falling asleep. Literally. I don't remember laying down. I just remember waking up about 30 minutes ago. Weird, and a little bit worrying.

Anyway, I've got lunch on the way and my mid-day medicines ingested. The pain medicine is doing a slightly better job. Everything still hurts, but the level is down a minuscule amount.

I'm sorry if I'm keeping up this chronicle too much, but if you read my blog, you know I get stuck in a loop at times like these. From the blog:

Quote

I get ultra-nervous as a hospital procedure approaches, be it inpatient or outpatient. (I assume this Friday’s procedure is outpatient, even though it’ll supposedly take a couple of hours to complete.) I’ve had such bad luck with hospitals and procedures/operations in the past that my mind goes into a feedback loop of worry, starting about a week before the appointed time. It’ll only get worse as the date approaches, and I can do nothing but ride it out.

Please forgive me if I get too talkative. I'll try and keep my neuroses in check.

I'm having a bad freaking migraine.  I may skip step 3 on the ladder and go for the knock me out meds in 2-3 hours if something doesn't start to work.

Take what you need. I'm learning that game quickly with the new pain med availability.

11:00 p.m. CDT 20170813. I took my 20mg dose of pain medicine an hour ago, but I've still got to stay up until midnight due to some team Captain duties in the Ubergroup on Scribophile. I can already feel the hydrocodone kicking in, making it hard to see unless I really concentrate. Once I get my Scribophile job done, I'm probably out of it for the night.

3:34 a.m. CDT 20170814. I wasn't *quite* out of it for the night. Deadpool came on, and I had to watch it. Fell asleep at about 2am. Woke up about ten minutes ago, wondering what the cats would be doing. Baker's asleep in his scratch box. Haven't found Loudmouth yet.

6:49 a.m. CDT 20170814. See the Loudmouth thread for his whereabouts. I didn't get much in the way of contiguous sleep overnight. When 6am finally rolled around, I said, "Screw it" again and just got up. Found out the weather would have woke me up anyway, since we're in a thunderstorm right now. I don't feel horrifically sleepy, but it hasn't been long since I took my 6am dose of pain medicine. I've also just finished off a cup of non-protein coffee (Mrs. Prof was in the way) and am about to get a cup of protein coffee. Pain seems to be mostly on the left side this morning, with the exception of my right ear.

I have a headache, caused by the storm front.  It's responding well enough to my drugs, but not well enough that I can do any thing useful, so I'm watching random things on Netflixs, in hopes that it drops down to a level I can work on Edge.  I really need to get some monsters done, or write the spaceship rules.

2:53 p.m. CDT 20170814. I got more sleep between my last update and 2pm than I did overnight. I hope my sleep pattern isn't shifting. If it is, it can't be the hydrocodone's fault, since my 10pm dose is the largest of all and I'm sleeping less after it.

My sore flaked off of my right ear. What was under it still hurts.

The 2pm dose of my hydrocodone is kicking in. Strange—it's never really done that before. I may have to lie down again. At least it's keeping my anxiety down about Friday, despite the occasional PVC.

3:43 a.m. CDT 20170815. Here we go again. I crashed shortly after midnight, following a strenuous argument session with my team in the Ubergroup. I was up at about 3:20 a.m. CDT, in need of the facilities and of something to eat. Surprisingly, Baker had remained on the sofa across from me (we have a sectional—picture the letter L rotated 90 degrees left and in a corner). However, once I started munching on the chips and salsa Mrs. Prof brought home last night, he woke up and went in search of his own munchies. And in search of Loudmouth. (He'll learn one of these days not to mess with Loudmouth.)

My left back/leg/foot pain is peaking, for some reason. It's not supposed to do this with a 20mg dose of hydrocodone. This is opposite of what I had last night. Too damned early for coffee yet.

You say that, but based on time stamps I took my Adderall dose about when you were posting.

I went back to sleep and got up at around 8:00 a.m. before I had coffee. Woke up with right side pain and two hyperactive cats.

Ah yes. I remember many a time where I woke up with an outbreak of cats. Gallopping all over the apartment chasing one another and finally settling down right on top of me for a kitty wrestling match. It is a little hard to go back to sleep after an experience like that one.

This was the first instance of Loudmouth participating. He was running end-to-end through the house, completely out of character. He then went back into his "insecure around Baker" mode. I swear, if he'd just let Baker give him a good sniff, all his problems would be over, but no, he has to get away from Baker instead.

5:19 p.m. CDT 20170815. Three days until the procedure and the hospital has not called. I guess they don't need any info, but I'm bringing my medical folder w/current medicine list in it anyway. At this same time, I'm trying to run a poll over in Scribophile as Team Captain on a rather controversial issue that will affect my Scribophile workload regardless of the outcome. Nervous? Why, whatever gives you that idea?

Ooh, another vote just came in. Ten people scattered across the globe. Gotta wait for them all to vote. It's possible that I may have to cast the tiebreaker. No stress at all. (takes another lorazepam)

I'd like to lie down right now, but I've got to constantly monitor this election. I'm going to collapse once it's over.

1:49 a.m. CDT 20170816. I crashed and woke up right before the the end of the poll. Had to vote to break a tie. Crashed again afterward. Mrs. Prof called and woke me up at around 11:00 p.m. to let me know she was coming home.

Just recently I've started developing stomach cramps. Those are going to keep me up for a while longer. OIC is not hitting me in a really haphazard way.

Two days until the procedure.

7:20 a.m. CDT 20170816. The pain along the right back/side/leg/foot is getting worse, even with the higher pain management dosage. I think it's got something to do with the 3x a day dosage instead of the old 4x a day dosage. I think I'm going to call the pain management specialist today and see if he can suggest a solution. I told Mrs. Prof about my plan, and she had no problem with it.
