... and another fuzzy aberration. Although he doesn't look as cute. Is that a new one or one of those we already know?

... oh right, Dan mentioned in commentary it's the Kangaroo guy.

Also, what's with lions, tigers and bears?

... and are all aberration men? Come to think of it, are there any aberrations of color? Seriously, we saw seven already ... on the other hand, five were hired by Sirleck. Maybe Sirleck isn't exactly equal opportunity employer.

Clearly, cishet white males of great wealth are heavily represented amongst aberrations as they are particularly likely to consider themselves entitled to eternal life at the expense of others. :P

You know, if all vampires combust if killed, I can see Sirlek using that as leverage: "If you kill me, you will kill my host in the resulting flames!"

Not sure if he will think that by himself, thougth...

That seems very unlikely. Although it reminds me Michael Jackson, who, as is generally known, changed from poor unknown black boy to rich famous white woman. (Not sure about his sexual orientation, but he claimed to not be gay.)

As hostage scheme, this doesn't seem particularly effective. Even Brand of Amber had better. And he was still killed.

The Moderator: Kindly restrain bad jokes of this kind. They do not get any better in taste by being offensive in multiple ways.

I always knew Koala were evil.
Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services hired one to be their spokesmasupial, and all he did was complain.
They really should have booked an Echidna.  Monotremes are reliable.

And Zeus?  I'm not sure what Immortal Law allows you to do with regard to Aberrations in combat, but "ABOVE YOU!" certainly falls within the realm of "Guide and Empower".  Why weren't you paying attention to give practical warnings like that?  OK, Susan ignored your first bit of advice to leave.  There are other things you can and should do besides argue with another sticky beak.

I did not say it was effective, just that it was something he could do...

Zeus is worried about what would happen to him if either of them get hurt or worse, he's probably trying to triage the situation, get Diane to safety first, then go back for Susan.

So Zeus is focused on Diane, but Diane is focused on Susan.

Well, Susan's still got her sword, so it certainly looks like the "good for one good hit" bit no longer applies.

I'm going to predict this is where Adrian makes his entrance into the fight, Susan's down, abberation looming over her, and suddenly... SLICE FROM BEHIND! And Adrian appears through the smoke.

Now this is just... wow.  I know it's a tense situation and Susan is in real danger, but come on, a koala vampire with a little hat?  He's not cute but he is.  I don't know; makes me want to hug him with a wooden stake.  I mean he and the bearded snake vampire are halfway to a muppet band.

Yes, it would, but it was Diane who cried "ABOVE YOU!"

Adrian didn't summon a sword against Abraham; he brought his sword cane to school. We don't know if he can summon magical weapons or enchant normal ones. But we do know he can make murder shrouds of exploding crows.

I suspect whether or not Adrian takes out the second comically cute vampire, another vampire will get the drop on him. That could be the point where Pandora irrevocably breaks Immortal Law to personally kill a vampire or five, and has a minute, tops, before getting reset. Or the point where Diane does something to stall that vampire. Or the point where someone else who could just happen to be at the mall intervenes, such as:

  1. Noah
  2. Greg
  3. Vladia (on a date with Greg?)
  4. Rhoda and Catalina (obviously together)
  5. Matt Cohen (crushing on Susan) (Obviously overmatched)
  6. Lucy (crushing on Susan) (Maybe not so overmatched--Liz is as tall as Elliot and I think we suspect she knows a thing or two about fighting)

I think the next vampire should look like Barney. Heck, I've always had suspicions about Barney. Do any of you remember Microsoft Barney? He was a PC peripheral who would talk to your kids...which means he could tell them whatever Bill Gates wanted to tell them. And do you ever remember seeing Barney and Bill Gates together?

Or she could appear as a normal human, get in the way and be attacked.  If an immortal is attacked, aren't they able to defend themselves?  I presume that is how Pandora killed those werewolves without being reset (just as Voltaire was trying to bait Elliot into attacking him).

I am so happy that I completely missed out on the existence of MS Barney.  Sheesh.  Yeah, a Barney-esque vampire, especially one that sings as it attacks you, would be suitably horrific (note, I have threatened my misbehaving kids with playing Barney music before; I think I have only actually played it for them once).  Of course, mentioning horror and Microsoft, I promptly imagined MS Clippy as a vampire ("Hi, it looks like you're trying to escape a vampire.  Let me help you with that.  Just jump into my open mouth...")

Could, but would she? Remember this is Mommy protecting her Child.

I kind of presume Pandora destroyed the werewolves by giving Abraham the powers to destroy them.

I didn't say he'd summon a sword. though true, we don't know for certain if he has his cane with him. There might still be some tricks we haven't seen beyond exploding crows, he is a wizard after all and an Elf who's several hundred years old and was taught by his mother.

Not entirely sure how directly fighting vampires would be breaking Immortal law, but considering Immortals have tended to go out of their ways to get someone to kill them, it's probably a case of Immortals painting themselves into a corner, like they can't do anything to Humans beyond guide and empower and for some strange reason aberrations are still included under that? I dunno

But anyway, there's also Helena and Demetrius that might show up, maybe they found some extra reinforcements to fight the vampires?

And did you meanr Lucy crushing on Diane? Though we don't know for sure if she is, maybe she was crushing on Rhoda and the way she treated Rhoda was similar to how George treated Justin, and we know George had a crush on Justin.

Thankfully I seem to know less (as in didn't know until you mentioned it) of that than I knew about MS Bob. At first I was thinking you meant a certain purple dinosaur.

Well, maybe, but Lucy has never shown anything like admiration or sympathy for for any boy, and I kind of got the vibe that Lucy was really disappointed to hear Diane tell her she wanted a "real relationship".But your theory about Lucy crushing on Rhoda brings up the intriguing possibility of a real catfight...MRROOOOOWWWW!!!!!

Lucy's reaction there could also be interpreted as Lucy having been taking the whole "use boys to get free stuff" act more seriously than Diane. That would however have the potential of Lucy dumping Diane the same way that a number of the feminist club members dumped Susan after she attempt to rally people to help change the dress code.

That might also be a reason why Lucy treats Rhoda the way she does, Lucy might believe that Rhoda's making Diane soft.

Also a plausible theory. Dan really hasn't developed Lucy very much, has he?

An interesting possibility is no-magic Lucy weighing in to protect Diane--and then having Rhoda save Lucy.

And there are a trio of people I hadn't thought of before: Charlotte, Rhea, and Rick. Charlotte's already taken on a vampire to protect Diane, so if she can do anything, she will. Since there really isn't anything going on at the college with an inhuman-looking peeping Tom, one or all of them could be at the Mall, maybe even at the food court. Diane didn't tell Rhea anything about Susan,

When first read this, I had trouble reading "inhuman-looking peeping Tom", and briefly thought of the inhumanly-enhanced Good Tom (who senses puppies in danger), but thought, wait, Good Tom would only be keeping his peepers open for puppy-mistreaters...oh Peeping Tom, or at least Bad Tom in a weird mask.

Then I wondered, what would Good Tom do if he were at the mall.  I mean, yeah, try to either rescue people or stop the vampires, goes with out saying, Good Tom and all, but what actions or how?  What if he had awakened from all of his puppy rescuing?  What spell would he have and would it be helpful in this situation.

And then I decided to step away and have some more coffee.  Too easy to walk down the rabbit-hole of speculations on Moperverse characters.

was meaning a certain purple dinosaur. We sold them at Fry's Electronics for the 1997 Christmas season.

Anything for Diane if she makes puppy dog eyes.

Yet another plot theory: Maybe the Scarf Vampire (or maybe it's a turtleneck?) will survive long enough to track down Sirleck and demand payback for sending him into a place crawling with vampire hunters. Scarf Guy seems smart enough to make a strategic withdrawal.

Doh!  Of course, not the purple dinosaur, the purple vampire.

There was once a webcomic called Faans that had a "real vampire hidden among the LARPers" scenario, with our Scooby-esque group of protagonists accompanied by that universe's version of Mulder and Skully (who co-existed with that universe's version of X-Files, a TV show based on their exploits used to disguise the truth).  Turns out the real vampire was the one who looked like our counting friend above.

That said, perhaps it is true that certain types of monsters in Dan's style of art tend to look more cutesy.  Well, excluding Sirleck and the alien versions of Tedd and Grace which are creepy as all get out.

Oddly enough, it was an X-Files episode with a teenager who was(?) a vampire that mentioned that vampires have a compulsion to count things, so Mulder spilled his sunflower seeds to distract the vampire.  Apparently this trait shows up in East European vampire mythology.  So the Count, despite being a muppet, might have been a truer vampire than we thought.
