I’d go around in my underwear or even naked in the summer outdoors if I wasn’t likely to get arrested, and NO I do not look good. I am short, fat, and male. NO ONE WANTS to see me like that.

It's the same thing that confused (and then squicked) Grace -- most people in our society seem incapable of seeing someone naked or scantily dressed without putting it into a sexual context.  If not for that, there would be no more problem with less-aestheticly-shaped people being naked or scantily dressed than there would be seeing them more heavily clothed.

Surprisingly, people are more tolerant to other people dressed in swimwear (at least near water), despite swimwear often covering just as little as underwear.

Even a tiny, sheer, and close-fitting swimsuit can be thought of as "trying" to wear clothes. It's easier to make excuses that they are dressed than to outright admit people are effectively swimming in the nude.

I remember seeing a video of a twitch streamer who as a joke pretended to strip only to reveal that she was wearing a bathing suit printed to look like a hairy male chest.
