[I don't think anything I have to say counts as a spoiler, but it's still probably better to read the comic before my comments, so I'm including a space anyway.]

I feel bad for Dan about this, as the 18+ rating will doubtlessly result in some people being scared off from Dan's Patreon and maybe even EGS in general, reducing Dan's income.

On the other hand, it would be awesome if Dan took advantage of the situation to go a bit further in the sorts of things he posts. In particular, I'm sure Grace would appreciate being able to walk around naked without being censored.

I don't know what the reasoning was, but I can't help but fear it was due to having gay, trans, genderfluid, etc. characters.  Considering the old description of EGS as "Easily the most perverted squeaky clean comic on the net," it seems rather sad that it's being segregated by a rating.  That said, things certainly have evolved to the point where the "squeaky clean" appellation may not really apply anymore....

To be honest, I don't think the comic is nearly as perverted as it used to be in the early years either. I'm not complaining, but it started out with awkward innuendo and jokes about nudity and characters making inappropriate comments, now the characters are discovering and exploring their identities in a more serious manner with some lighthearted tones scattered about when it allows.

The MV5 might be the the only comic since Dan restarted the NPs that pushed on being perverted (what with Grace and Ellen taking off clothes, and Sarah's reaction to seeing Grace as a buff male Sarah) but for the most part it had been fairly tame I thought.

This is coming from a purely "evolution of the comic" standpoint, the sketchbooks are certainly another story and what people might considered perverted or adult would probably have started when Dan started the patreon campaign and put patron requests and milestones in the section.

I really hope it wasn't because of the LGBT elements; if they were to admit to that or there was some way to prove it, I don't think I'd be comfortable continuing give them money; I'd probably try to find some other way to support Dan.

As for EGS being "squeaky clean", I think as far as the stuff on the main site goes that's almost as true now as it was back then (there have been a few boundary-pushing things here and there, such as MV5, Goonmanji 2, and some of the sketchbooks, but on the other hand there's been the occasional censored nudity in the comic since near the beginning, so not all that much has changed). On the other hand, Dan's Patreon page (which is what was labeled 18+) might not count as "squeaky clean"; at the very least Dan has gone further in some of the Pinups than he ever did with stuff on the main site (including some nudity which just barely covers up the "essentials").

Of course, even the most extreme of Dan's Pinups are tame compared to most "adult" stuff out there; as someone (I think it might have been Dan in a tweet) said, there are probably going to be people who after seeing the 18+ label on his Patreon are pretty disappointed by what's actually there...

You have offended someone.

We won't say who you offended.

We won't say what you did that was offensive to them.

We won't say what you must change before we will change our judgement.

Now stop doing the things so objectionable that we can't even say what they were.

Criticism at its most constructive.

The sort of people I'm picturing complaining would think there was nothing wrong with people reacting with comical levels of dismay at being turned into a girl and being desperate to turn back into a boy.  It's the very exploration of identity and sexuality, normalizing it and making it seem there's nothing wrong with it, that such people would object to.

Oh, I wasn't saying Patreon had a problem with LGBTQ+ elements, it was the people making complaints about the site that I meant.  Patreon may just have an automated system, where if x number of people flag the site as inappropriate for children, then they'll designate it as such and it's up to the artist to dispute the designation or to accept it.  Most big sites don't go checking up on what people post unless someone complains.  Certain groups of people will make vociferous complaints about two men kissing, lips only, but won't say a peep about a heterosexual couple french kissing and groping each other.  Art with cis straight couples are thus less likely to be labeled as "adults only" because fewer people are complaining about them.

Even Dan's pinups are, well, pinups, with a degree of innocence to them.  I don't think anyone would consider Dan's stuff to be "porn."  They'd be perfectly acceptable on page three of certain newspapers in the UK.  As far as near-nudity goes, Dan's stuff is the squeaky-clean end!

That sucks. Nobody has even had For Real Sex yet, and the person having had the most implied "action" is Raven lol

What's wrong with having big tits and chiseled abs and small clothing....

If you're counting having kids as "implied action" then Nanase's parents are at least equal to Adrian.  And there have been several references to "sexy time" between Ellen and Nanase, too.  But I think we've already had at least a couple of threads about the odds our characters are still virigns....

Based on some of the comments I've seen, it would seem that many don't care if it's normalized, they just want to see boobs.

The one pair of teens or near teens in this comic we have documented evidence of having had sex is the elder Dunkels.

... yeah ... regarding age, they definitely lead, as Adrian was in twenties when he had Susan's ancestor.

Adrian might be oldest character but we can't be sure he had more sex than Dunkels.

People who just want to see boobs don't complain about rating. They complain about not enough sex.

Also, Patreon might be big enough to actually have experience with lawsuits ; even if not, their motivation is likely to be more based on what can cause problem for their company than their personal preferences.

Just as everyone else. I mean, both Patreon and voting sites like TopWeb usually contains stuff which is more risqué than the comic they belong to.

Ruling out a false positive on this one. So why is Patreon a tease? :demonicduck:

EGS After Dark still is a neat idea, not considering some of the implications.
