Dang, 106 is pretty good!  I don't think we can hold this one against 2016.

Yeah, I'd say 106 years would have been a good long life and that his rest is well earned.

This makes me sad.  The big circuses were a whole way of life.

Also, given that the animal rights groups put a lot of pressure on them to stop having elephant performers, and when they did so, they went out of business shortly after, it makes me wonder how the next business they put pressure on is going to react.  If they really wanted to have influence in the long run, they should have all bought tickets and encouraged others to do so once the elephants were sent elsewhere.  With this as an example, the next guys are going to choose to stay in business!

I went a couple of miles north to a veterinary specialist, and then had the rest of the afternoon free, so I thought I'd go just a little further north to a local Barnes & Noble, since the one closest to me closed a couple of months ago.

This one had closed too.  It's a branch for one of the local hospital chains now, according to the sign.

So, I checked my GPS, and found that the closest B&N was now a fair bit further north yet.  Decided I was already relatively close, and I wasn't sure if I'd be any closer any time soon, so I did go.  I'm sad that there don't seem to be hardly any bookstores, other than one sad little Half Price Books, any closer than that.

I made sure to buy some books.  Hopefully this one will stay in business....

My little doggie turned 13 just before Christmas.  He's not going to see 14.  He's had a snorting/snoring/stuffy sound when he breathes since end of December, mild at first but getting worse, and in the past week his appetite took a nose-dive.  After testing what we could at work, today I took him to see our favorite Internal Medicine specialist, and they found carcinoma cells in his lymph nodes.  This isn't something that could be treated, or at least, not in any way that the outcome would be worth it.

He's already pretty unhappy, not wanting to eat even chicken or turkey this morning, refusing to take his Pill Pocket, which he's always loved, so I knew it was pretty serious, I was just hoping for something fixable.  No such luck.

So, I'm not going to draw this out.  I'll take care of things tonight, after the staff has gone home because I don't want a big fuss.  The other vets offered to help or not, however I want to do this, and I haven't decided yet.

Pippin loves peanut butter, and has tried to kill himself with dark chocolate multiple times through the years.  I'm going to go get him a jar of Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter and if he wants to, he can eat as much as he pleases.  It's something I've jokingly promised for years now, and it's time.  I'll probably eat whatever he doesn't, once it's done.

He's sleeping off a sedative they gave him right now, up on the bed with me.  He didn't have to have anything too invasive or stressful to get the diagnosis, thank goodness.  He's my baby, and I'll miss him.

Yeah, I did it while the other two vets were still there, and when I got home my kitty gave me some good snuggles.  I called my folks and my sister to let them know.

It's weird not having to get his leash and harness on him and bring him to work.  I'll have to figure out what to do with his beds, whether to reduce the number of litter boxes, donate leftover food, etc.  On the plus side, I can go straight from work to stores, club meetings, CE, etc. without figuring out what to do with him first.

I'm sure eventually another little pup will come into my life.  Probably another kitty, too; she'll be even more alone now.  But for now, I'll leave things as is, definitely st least until after my trip.

You are "Critter Keeper" after all...  :)

I wish you the best in recovering from the loss.  Wish I had something less generic to say that said the same thing...

Today at work, I saw a lone Brown Pelican walking on the driveway between buildings.

I drove by it in a golf cart less than three feet away, and it barely moved.

I stepped out of the cart and approached within one foot and the bird did not react until I crouched down to take a closer look.

The Pelican had a fishing hook embedded in its neck and a fishing line wrapped around one wing.

I called animal control, and they gave me the number for wildlife rescue.  But by the time I got back to where I first saw the bird, it was gone.  While I doubt it could fly well, it was probably able to get back over the fence.  Since I couldn't find the bird, I didn't make the call.

This bird was weak.  I would guess it was starving.

Every once in a while you need a tangible reminder about the dangers of carelessness.

This sea bird was dying in one of the worst ways imaginable because some somebody with a rod and reel couldn't be bothered to dispose of their tackle properly.
