Pinup, Tuesday November 1, 2016 (Naughty Librarian Amanda))

Recommended Posts

Hmmm ... is the fabric before her clothes of someone who she just shrunk? That would match the smoking shrinker ... Now, WHO was that? Lisa?

(On the other hand, I'm not sure what makes her librarian in this pinup ... I mean, aside from being in library.)

Being a POV shot, it could be anyone, even you if you wanted, hence why I said it'd be fantasy fuel.

As fair as her being a librarian, there seems to be a few stereotypes for librarians portrayed in media, the old lady that runs the library with an iron fist, a timid twenty-something girl, or a sexy confident woman that makes the male students want to show her their dewy decimal system. There can be some mixing between those three examples as well, but Amanda is likely portraying the third type.

To be more specific, I think Emp here portraited it better.

The "librarian" stereotype includes glasses (preferably on a chain), hair put back (most classically in a bun), and clothing that has a conservstive/serious air to it (note the collar and tie in Amanda's outfit).  Often a pencil behind the ear or stuck through the bun.  And shushing people, either angrily and harshly if the old mean version, or gently and with an air of tolerating mischief if the younger sexy version.

I think some have even put the librarian as a dominatrix type, punishing those who are late returning books or, heaven forbid, put books back on the shelf in the wrong order.

Only tangentially related to the pinup itself, it seems from the descriptions of the pinups for next month that we'll be returning to the more raunchy stuff after a few months of cuter/more subdued pictures. I don't know how to feel about it. On one hand, I'm not opposed to sexy times, but on the other, the last few pinups before Dan dialled it back a little were just one layer of plausible deniability away from being actual porn, which is really jarring when you consider the way EGS proper deals with relationships and sexuality.

Did you consider the possibility that Dan is searching for the middle path between those? Although I think it's more random based on how Dan feels at the moment ...

(Also, not sure which pinups you consider one layer of plausible deniability from porn, but maybe one layer is enough. And difference between art - even classical art - and porn is not in amount of flesh shown.)

There's also the fact that many of the suggestions that get chosen aren't too specific about what the pinups should look like.

For instance, the single character choice for October said "Naughty Librarian Amanda" so of course we have Amanda looking like a sexy librarian doing something naughty. The other single choice that Dan hasn't released yet is "Susan in a one piece swimsuit". We have Susan in a one piece swimsuit, as well as Susan in a bikini (technically a couple in fact), in the sketchbooks. Mind you based on the past few pinups with Susan in them, Dan could very well give this pinup a look similar to the V5 bikini fund Sarah, but he may also just draw her like one of the sketchbooks I linked. The Nanase and Ellen after a spar, could easily have gone the same route as Justin and Elliot after a spar (except covered chests), but thankfully Dan went the "traditions die hard" route with Nanase and Ellen and so we got a more risque pinup. Pinups like "Lazy Day Charlotte", "Gracelyn stretching before a jog" and "Mall Elliot trying on bras" are examples of what was asked for nothing more, nothing less. Though I still wonder how anyone could have expected Dan to draw "Tedd testing to see how much is too much" as a sexy pinup.

As far as Dan's "My choice" pinups go, he can do whatever he wants and has been pretty good so far, even going out of the way to take a patron choice several steps farther.

Basically what I'm saying is, it's our fault for giving him these choices, he's doing the best he can with them. ;)

Wait. Do we even give the choices? I mean, the description of $5 patreon is

Please note that the options available in such polls will be chosen by Dan, though patron responses to prior surveys may influence those options.

so, aren't all of them formulated by Dan with us (well, $5 Patreon backers) just voting which will be drawn?

We give the suggestion in the surveys as well as "like" other people's suggestions, Dan then takes the top 4 liked suggestions and makes a poll, then we vote and he takes the top or top 2, so while yes that can be taken as a formula for narrowing down what Dan draws, we are still the ones making the suggestions and voting. I've made several suggestions in the surveys since the "What if Ellen zapped herself in the MV5 NP" that never made it into the polls because people didn't "like" them enough.

I'm sure Dan reserves the right to refuse a suggestion that gets a lot "likes" if he feels it's too explicit but I don't think it's happened yet. I would also expect Dan to take a low "liked" suggestion as his "My Choice" if he was particularly interested in it, can't recall if he's specifically done that either.

They aren't formulated by Dan.

Dan 's process is he puts up a post asking for ideas.  He has a 1-character poll, a 2-character poll and a transformation sequence poll.  I forget all the categories he has but those three occur each month for sure.  I think there's one other at least.  Backers can post ideas in the discussion system Patreon attaches to each creator post.  They can also vote for the the ideas they like using the "like" (heart-icon) function for each post.

Dan later holds a runoff between the highest 4 vote-getters for each poll.  Sometimes he will do his own thing as well.

Since I'm a $5/month backer, I don't really track what I get to do that a $3 or $1 backer can't.
