When I was in college, a flatmate who was studying psychology once told me that most psychology students chose that discipline just to cure their own mental problems.

A two-comic-page treatise on psychology begins here. I think it's worth a read.

Grace, I get what you meant, but it sounded like you want to study formal psychology, which is not exactly what would normal people do in your situation ...

You know this gives Grace ideas on what to major in when she goes to college.

Math? Genetics? Gravitation physics? ... oh. Right. Psychology. Well, she's likely to end in magic research anyway, so she don't need to fear the common problem of humanity major students like ending with jobs in McDonald.

Kevin might do what he can to prevent that, but between her own interest and studying with Tedd ...

Kevin's goal is to train Ashley, how he trains and what kinds of spells are involved are unclear, they might be based on Arthur's idea of what wizards working for the Paranormal Division should learn, or maybe Kevin will tailor a curriculum that's a reflection of Ashley's personality.

I would expect he would try to train her at least little more universally than transformation only. But yes, he may also get a curriculum for work in Paranormal Division.

Of course, it's not like he would PREVENT her from learning transformation, anything is good for basic training, but I expect he will complain and try to get her interested in something else too.

At least until Susan and Diane will arrive - not that Susan didn't enjoyed the time she spend as man, but ... They should use the time they have. Quickly, everyone transforms!

Susan might not be interesting in being a man again, but she'd probably be up for other kinds of transformations, like the shorter, hippy form she had Tedd make a watch for, heck she could even bust out the "Vladia" hair for a change.

Hmmm ... would she be more or less likely to have fun like that with her aunt around?

And we've yet to see any evidence that Grace has seen that counseling that Ellen demanded Edward get for her.

I dunno, some counselors are just that crappy. Actually, that would still support your point; not that she hasn't been to counseling, just no evidence of it.

If DGB don't have really good counselor capable of sorting psychological problems of wizards, it means they are KILLING the ones who "go crazy". Is that the world Dan wants to draw?

... wait. Maybe the reason we see no evidence of counseling is that compared to most wizards, Grace's problems are just minor.

Speculation: The reason Dan hasn't introduced any counselor characters is because he's been planning since back when he thought the comic would get to the main cast's college years quickly that Grace would become the counselor of the group.

I would expect he already realized it wouldn't be quick enough.

Sooo ... I don't expect the flatmate managed to cure his own mental problems did he?

Also, yes, good treatise.

Diane would likely jump at the chance to try out transformations even if Susan doesn't initially. Susan might have to see Diane having fun before she lets loose.

While Nanase has plenty of reason to be grateful to Tedd for playing around with mtf transformations, it seems to me Nanase thinks of Ellen as her own person (who has always been female), not as a copy of transformed Elliot. Nor do I think Ellen's powers have anything to do with Nanase's interest in her.

I suppose Ellen's own interest in transformation could have gotten Nanase into it, but I can't recall any indication of that in the comic.

Do you disagree with my assessment, or is there something I missed?

Nanase was specifically responding to Ashley saying "I like men turning into women".

So does she like men turning into women?

Well, Ellen is her girlfriend, so there's one.

And yes, you're exactly right: she considers Ellen her own person rather than reducing her to being Elliot's clone, and she thinks of her as a female rather than as a "guy trapped inside a woman's body" or something like that.

But she's not ignorant of Ellen's origin. She knows exactly who Ellen is and how she came to be.

So she must have considered the implications of male-to-female trasformations, and the end result was total acceptance of Ellen and getting into a relationship with her.

She could have decided that Tedd's transformation gun and that magic diamond didn't produce a "real woman" (which would have made her a bigot), but she didn't.

The difference between Nanase and Ashley is that Ashley's interest is based on a transformation fetish, while to Nanase, it's just the normal state of things.

Actually, I can see both of them being reluctant due to the other ... but, thinking about it, yeah, Diane is likely to let loose sooner.

Maybe she understood incorrectly and wanted to say "I like men turned into women" :)

(Apologies to those of you to whom baseball analogies are foreign.)

No no, I am very familiar with baseball analogies. It's what you think of whenever you feel exceptionally horny. I have never seen a baseball game but I assume that these things are essentially the next best thing to hardcore porn.

I didn't see whole baseball game live either, but based on occasionally showing part of one in movies, I think it would depend on score. It's a game after all. They start rather softly and only get to hardcore when they are good.

... which, thinking about it, might be actually better, so ...

Maybe the bats are metaphors for giant dildoes?

Given Diane's response to seeing Nanase and Ellen using magic, thought of her getting a chance to try it out herself would be quite tempting.

Exactly, but at the same time she would try to resist ... even pretend she doesn't care.

Tedd might bring out the watches, or some other wands that she has charged with safe-ish transformations.

Wands are costly. She should bring out the watches and say those are "something like wands".

She's done a fair amount of introspection and discovery since then and probably doesn't want to pretend anymore (well aside from hiding what happened at the mall and her biological family from her adopted family for the time being). She's being open about liking girls, so she probably has no issue being open about liking magic in the presence of magic users now.

No, no, it's more like a cold shower, that's why they use it in that context.

Makes me wonder why attending all these sportsball events is so popular. :icon_eek:

It is surprisingly decent entertainment, if you're into it. We have a decent minor league team in our area, and I go occasionally; I'll watch the game, but it's more about hanging out with friends for me.

I've played an awful lot of baseball/softball (a baseball is harder, and a bit smaller) when I was in middlin' early years of school; it wasn't optional.

Maybe. Maybe not. We will see. Generally, becoming open in one area doesn't need to mean becoming open in all ... but it's true that Diane changed a lot so how she would react before may not be reliable for her current reaction.

Are you sure?

(Actually, I'm pretty sure Nanase and Ellen used "baseball" just as first thing that came to their mind which (seemingly) WASN'T related to sex, and it's just running gag than everyone is consistently using "baseball" in same sense. Or work of subconscious, maybe.)

(I actually also played softball in school. For something involving fast moving ball and metal bat it was surprisingly safe option, compared to others. But that breaks the joke.)
