So, this is purely cosmetic item ... why would anyone use it? Oh wait, that's why he doesn't sell them and uses them as free sample. I guess the reverse potion will cost more. Reminds me how some restaurants have free salty peanuts to raise beverage consumption.

According to Dan on Reddit Fable 2 did have DLC that added Weight Gain and Loss potions, the Weight Loss potions being more useful to counteract the pies more quickly.

And if you do not eat the pies you will gain weight from some other source

This game gives the player a lot of choices
And no matter what the player may choose, the player's character will be exactly what the game wants it to be
