Ok, took me a moment realizing what panel 1 is about, and I already read about Diane, Rhoda and Lucy being named based on Cheers. On the other hand, I didn't actually SEE cheers and only after reading the commentary realized that the jokes about Norm are related to it. Good that Dan explained it.

Ninja Diane and Ninja Susan looks well but it's obvious they are not really TRYING to be stealthy, and that's necessary if you want to be.

Also, Yin and Yang are Chinese concepts, not Japan. It would make more sense to imagine them as Shaolin Kung Fu Masters.

Sarah thinking of Diane as a "Cute Mini-Susan" is enough to kickstart a canon ship, right?  I guess it's only one way right now, but maybe we'll see what Diane thinks of Sarah at some point?

Only Diane was a reference to Cheers, Rhoda was a character from the Mary Tyler Moore Show and I'm pretty sure Dan said Lucy was simply referring to Lucile Ball of "I Love Lucy" but then became a Lucy Lawless "Xena" reference by accident.

Right. "... about Diane, Rhoda and Lucy being named based on sitcoms, with the Diane one's being Cheers."

Dan has revealed the identities of two Ninja in Moperville, and his attempt to distract the readers from this fact by portraying Diane and Susan as Ninja is a poor cover-up

I dare say the other two ninja's we've seen are a fair more distracting.

Unless of course you're talking about a Sleepy Little Ninja. Then we technically have 5 now. ;)

I believe I saw a few episodes as a kid, or at least parts of episodes. However, all I remember at this point is the beginning song (I believe Cheers was on after a show I did watch regularly, so I saw the beginning regardless of whether anyone was going to watch the show itself... also, I have a good memory for music).

The Cheers theme was one of the better TV Theme songs
Maybe even better than Hasenpfeffer Incorporated
But they only played the first verse
In many later season episodes and reruns, only the chorus was played

We can't have two ninja Dianes.

I mean sure, if you consider magic clones being possible, then yes we could have two ninja Dianes, but in this case there is certainly only 1.

The question is, if one hundred ninja Dianes fight one pirate Diane, who wins?

Well duh. Diane, of course.

The pirate would take out 99 of the ninja, but the Law of Conservation of Ninjutsu tells us that the 100th ninja would be badass enough to take on a whole ship full of pirates.  (Unknown if pirates get to get better the fewer of them there are left or not, though....)

The pirates are unstoppable,

Provided, of course, that you don't ask them to bear arms against an orphan

And of course the 100th ninja will be an orphan.  (Or claim to be...)  Tragic backstory is a prerequisite for ridiculously overpowered characters, isn't it?

I'm sure two of those 99 other ninjas the pirate killed were the 100th's parents, thus making the ninja's backstory also a tale of vengeance against the pirate.

Sounds perfect. Although wait, weren't all those ninjas Diane?

I think pirate power levels are based on a combination of how high ranking they are and how cool/intimidating they look (with things like eye patches, prosthetic hooks, and peg-legs offering a substantial bonus in power).

I created a pirate who was imaginatively named "Jolly Roger" for my superhero game. One of his best and most successful superpowers was that he had a stuffed parrot with a built in radio transmitter sitting on his shoulder. But the radio wasn't the point. The point was to tempt any enemy he faced into spending an attack on it to knock it off his shoulder.

And it worked. Every time. EVERY. TIME.

That consarned parrot had one purpose and one purpose only. Ablative armor. And it didn't once fail him. My players didn't catch on to it until after the campaign ended and I actually told them. That resulted in a lot of laughs, facepalming and even kudos to the guy. He was really low powered in general but worked mainly on smarts, and the players applauded him for pulling such a simple yet irresistible trick on them.

Heh, that reminds me of one I read where the DM decided that his players were over-reliant on magic. So he created a monster who was immune to all forms of magic damage, both direct and indirect... and had ONE hit point. He nearly managed a TPK before someone hit the monster with something non-magical... accidentally.

It's unbelievable how effective can armor which covers just small part of body be.

Sneaky. Of course, experienced parties prefer nerd brute force to classical brute force.

(Meaning, hitting the enemy with attacks of all possible types of damage.)

I just remembered that I saw a variant of @Don Edwards' scenario once. In this one, the players were massive min-maxers who all carried the weapons that did the absolutely most damage. And obviously mages, too. The DM got tired of that and decided to teach them a lesson.

So, in one dungeon they found an armoury full of enchanted maces. Chock full of them. All of them intensely magical. The players yawned. Maces are inferior weapons. Maybe come back and pick up some later if they had room in their loot bags.

In the next room, a trapdoor comes down. And they get to confront four common clay golems. All of which are affected only by magical blunt weapons and a very few specialised spells. None of the players owned a single magical blunt weapon. Blunt weapons didn't do enough damage.

There was no escape. After a humiliating fight, the party wiped. If they had brought even ONE of the enchanted maces, they would almost certainly have won without even any casualties.
