Considering superb structural integrity, general acclamation, and the overall "parties are for experimenting" mantra, let us crack some more!! (after the Christmas break tho, dang)

Zounds! (is what I would also say, barring a "dun dun dun" moment by the next decade)

So what is the risk/reward return ratio when experimenting with potentially dangerous magic for fun?

I don't know, but Tedd really should by now.

BTW, I meant "Sarah" when I wrote "Susan". Maybe it was a Freudian slip; Susan should have had at least one line (the best one) in this comic.

What I was gonna say on the subject about Sarah's actions are basically the same as what Dan said on Reddit, he also added why the others responded the way they did:

Maybe that's the reason he's panicking? :)

Good summary.

Also, even if she succeed in getting 20 feed height, that's 6m, and she's sitting ... I think she would fit.

And trying outside would bring another set of risks, IMHO more serious.

I would say that it was dangerous but still worth trying.

Diane has very effectively integrated herself into the group. She known of Tedd's magic devices less than ten minutes, and she is already expressing strong opinions about them. Diane also doesn't know that Tedd has a pretty good track record. Is she the catalyst for Tedd's loss of control? It does not seem obvious, but she tends to be influential.

Perhaps she doesn't need to be, directly. The presence of both Diane and Ashley, needing exposure to magic for context, may be enough of a catalyst.

The game is afoot!   (...or, "The game is .3 meters!", for the rest of you. :P) (("The game is 2/3 cubits!"))

And I would say that they should at least have discussed the procedure first, which I think is more or less Tedd's objection, too.

Even if there was no danger of property damage or physical harm to anyone, the possibility of something embarrassing happening is still enough for Tedd to want to be extra cautious, she hasn't known Ashley very long and hasn't been able to properly assess what her limits are and it hasn't helped that Ashley's been both enthusiastic and freaked out by the stuff that's happened so far.

And then Diane is a complete stranger to Tedd aside from knowing that she's somehow related to Susan, so far Diane's been friendly and enthusiastic but Tedd has no clue what a wardrobe malfunction might do.

No objection to THAT.

It would also help if Tedd was looking with his seer senses.

... I don't think there is any risk of Ashley or Diane having wardrobe malfunction due to Sarah casting the spell on herself.

... are you implying Diane's alternate is friend of Lord Tedd?

Not in this case. But Ashley could have shrunk without her clothes shrinking with her, though Dan mentioned on twitter that shrinking out of her clothes might have taken her mind off of how big everything was to her.

And while Diane does seem to prefer being the caster rather than being enchanted, she also seems the type that if there's going to be accidental nudity, then she'd rather there be booze involved in that the booze would make things less embarassing, but it does raise the risks of other things happening but Dan also said that Diane was likely to not think about the consequences of getting drunk.

Yeah, which is kind of hard for him to do WITHOUT ADVANCE WARNING. :(

Yeah.

Still, the conclusion seem to be that problem wasn't that Sarah did it, but that she didn't warned others before that.

... would that be "good" or "bad" kind of "taken her mind off that"?

No. Interesting conjecture, but it hadn't occurred to me.

So, what loss of control you speak about?

(BTW, I don't think her alternate is Lord Tedd's friend. I think she would still be around then. Also, I think Lord Tedd wouldn't became Lord Tedd if he wasn't critically short on friends.)

The normal mode we're used to seeing is to use the devices as Tedd advises. THe entire comic is about not asking his/her advice, and instead experimenting.

So there really are times when you should ask before doing something instead of apologizing after?

This concept seems to be completely alien to a significant portion of humanity

And dogs

And cats (well, actually, in my experience cats generally don't ask or apologize...)

Considering Dan was saying it like it was Ashley thinking it, good for her at least.

Still not sure how Diane would react.

Nanase and Susan are aware that there's been wardrobe malfunctions in the basement.

Tedd, Grace and Sarah would probably be like "One of us!"

Ellen would probably be like "Nice!"

Justin might just pick one of the other reactions to follow suit with.

Elliot would probably still worry.

What if Diane's alternate is Nioi?

Nah probably not, that would require some convoluted stuff to explain the fact that she's a skunk girl and not the granddaughter of an Immortal.

Convoluted?

Not necessarily...

The immortals of that world frequently use the custom of Egyptian gods by appearing with animal characteristics
While this may simply be an affectation for the immortals, something they may use or ignore at will, their descendants who may be born with those characteristics may well be stuck with those attributes

Or, possibly even worse, stuck without those attributes

Can you imagine the horror of going through a life where everyone sees you as human even though you know that you are descended from a rogue god?

So Pandora decided she liked Blaike, assumed a human form and had a child with him, Adrian Raven.

Could an immortal fully assume an animal form, participate in reproduction, and produce a hybrid offspring? I'm guessing there's an immortal rule that says, "Your offspring must be capable of being accountable for their magic use."
