Humans spend hours intensely staring at boxes of flashing lights

I'm sure cats are just as confused by our behavior as we are by theirs

You say that, but Explorer spends an hour or two watching videos with me.  She seems to like the ones with fast moving bits, so she like Top Gear and The Grand Tour.

Explorer the Cat on the north end of her daily dash about the house routine.  She's extra active today.  Might be the weather, might be she's a cat.

Zipping through all the spaces at ludicrous speeds, essentially putting themselves everywhere at once

Sitting still in a central location where everyone can see them

Hiding in the shadows so that no one can see them

Occupying the Box

This is pretty much the case, however you have left out "sleeping on the bed"

Explorer the Cat spots something in the air that The Human can't see.  She tracked it for several minutes then jumped off the desk to lounge about on the floor.

Explorer the Cat in the new box in the bedroom that The Human hasn't tossed out yet.  He'll get around to it in a couple of days.  A week, tops.
