      Welcome!   03/05/2016

Welcome, everyone, to the new 910CMX Community Forums. I'm still working on getting them running, so things may change.  If you're a 910 Comic creator and need your forum recreated, let me know and I'll get on it right away.  I'll do my best to make this new place as fun as the last one!

I am on the cusp of completing my first piece for a solo instrument. Due to a severe lack of works for this particular instrument, I have chosen to write for the Alto Clarinet. It's a horn I've played on in concert myself, and I enjoyed the experience. I've got two movements out of a total of three completed, and the third is rolling along nicely. I should have it done within the next day or so.

Side note: I thought that the hardest part of the whole experience would be writing the piano accompaniment, but as it turns out, it's been no more difficult than writing for almost any other instrument so far. I'll find out how true that statement is when I set it in front of a piano player.

My new piece is finished! "3 Short Pieces for Alto Clarinet" is complete, with piano accompaniment. Details on my website at https://dleejackson.lbjackson.com/2025/04/new-music-for-alto-clarinet-released/ . Also, it's up on YouTube:

Much better than 3 short pieces of an Alto Clarinet. (Unless you're one of those who really does not like clarinets.)

If I recall correctly, 3 short pieces of an alto clarinet are what go into a clarinet case. Along with some spare reeds and a little container of cork grease.

And a small rag attached to one end of a stick which is a bit longer than the longest piece of the clarinet.

That sounds like a piece that PDQ Bach would have written.  Is he still alive?  <google>  No, sadly, he died last year. And yes, I know it's really Peter Schickele.

<face palm> True. Not nearly as 'colorful' though.

You probably won't believe it, but I'm just now figuring out how to get the General MIDI part of Steinberg's Cubase Pro 14 working. I promised someone I'd write some video game music for them, and I've basically hit a stopping point, so it's time for me to do the video game deed now. I haven't written anything video game-ish since at least 2023, if not earlier, and that was while using Cakewalk by Bandlab. I'm having to learn a whole new ball of wax to do this. What fun, indeed.

Sorry for the absence - I've been busy putting something together - a new album! My first one in ages. It's called "Going Big," and it's up on Bandcamp now. It consists of pieces that I've released before, but they're all compiled here now. All my "Big" works, like Concert Band, Orchestra, French Horn Choir, that sort of thing. Here's the link:

Please grab a copy and pass the word along! Thanks!

Many things have happened since my last post. I've hooked up with a publisher of sheet music who apparently likes what I've written for solos and chamber ensembles. The publisher is Cimarron Music Press, and they have signed up to publish eight (8) of my works! That includes 2 solos, 5 original ensembles, and one arranged ensemble (an excerpt of a Bruckner symphony).

I've put up a page on my website with links to all of the pages they've published so far, plus links to the YouTube videos for each. Here's the link to it:

Please give it a look when you get the chance. Thank you!
