In many games, randomness is an essential component.

The shuffle of the cards.  The roll of the dice.  Who gave the bigger bribe to the referee/dealer/game master?

Other games demand equal conditions for all competitors.

Both have their place.   But I doubt you'll see ABBA writing music for a play about Snakes & Ladders.

I don't play video games, and other than Eve Online and Final Liberation I haven't played any this century. That being said, the only thing I like being random in a game is chance to hit and/or damage caused per hit.
