Well, for a double blind study you need a placebo that looks and tastes like the drug/potion being tested, so the neutral option needs to match the real potion fairly accurately.   Assuming that the "active" ingredient isn't strong flavored and can survive in a acidic drink pink lemonade would still be a viable option.  Just saying.
