R.I.P. people associated with Jeffrey Epstein, starting with his lawyer . . .

I've been out of the loop. Did something new happen?

Yes, his lawyer died. 80s, but the timing is uncanny.

Yeah, just read about that. Granted, at 80, not that surprising, but still…

Terry Gene Bollea (August 11, 1953 – July 24, 2025), better known by his ring name Hulk Hogan

I am not sure how I feel about this.

I am somewhat disheartened when I compare the number of RIP posts I see for Hulk Hogan vs. the number I saw for Ozzy. I guess there are a lot more wrestling fans than metalheads. This really shouldn't surprise me.

He was not a horrible human being AFAICT.

I saw his Suburban Commando movie; his acting was over the top, learned from show wrestling I suppose.

His politics were a bit iffy.

I was reminded that he was on stage for The Trumpster Fire last election, so, yeah, more than iffy.

It is indeed kind of shocking to realize how long ago the early space age exploits happened.

What shocks me is that we still haven’t gone back in over fifty years.

One of my bucket list items is seeing people on the moon again.  Right now, I don't really care whether they are American or not.

We don't have the infrastructure we once had to do so. We do have progress toward a new initiative. Russia seems much further behind than they were; they were once clearly in the lead. China seems to have the most aggressive agenda, India is also in the running. Every one else seems to not care at this time.

Ceding space to China seems like an error.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I want America to be the next on the moon, but I'll settle for PRC.

"We came in peace, for all mankind". America and Russia have decades of cooperation in space, and host other nations in space.

China is avaricious and wants to lay claim to what it can. You can see this on Earth, is will be true in space as well. Perhaps Ding Dong Ping's successor will be more amenable to cooperation, but don't hold your breath waiting.

OK, this one's not exactly 'sad news', some of you may want to celebrate; James Dobson will no longer be shilling bad Christian Right political drivel and intolerance.

I used to listen to his segment back in the 1970s, when he was still a pediatrician and still focused on raising children. I'm not saying all of his advice and opinions were spot on, but he had some wisdom to share at the time, and it's kind of a shame that success spoiled him.
