Yes, he definitely benefited from Tara knocking some sense into him.

Contrary to what Dan says in the comment, I don’t think that Tara was implying a blood relation when she called Elliot and Grace “his” kids, but rather that he was responsible for them as a leader or mentor figure.

As for being "his kids"?

Elliot is my son's best friend

Grace is my son's fiance

Nanase, who you met on your last visit, is my niece.  She may be a more competent combatant than Elliot, but she has already suffered greatly due to her relationship to myself and my ex-wife.  I will do anything to keep her out of harm's way.

My son is becoming a more powerful wizard than myself, but he has not yet developed the skills for combat or diplomacy.
