Even with the heart, I suspect it's not romantic or sexual, just, for the lack of a better term, brotherly love or Philia. On the other hand, I can see Grace pushing for some hugging.

Well, Elliot was Tedd first friend and has stayed with him since elementary school.  Stands to reason that he would feel strongly about his friendship with Elliot.

Not to mention the recent incident where Elliot pulled out all the stops to save Tedd's dad and girlfriend from  grisly deaths.
