The minions are being dispatched too easily.

These lackys were set up to fail.  A distraction allowing the real villain the opportunity to advance the big diabolical plot.

Or perhaps a few critical successes short circuted an introductory module in the players' favour.  Either way works.

As catapult fodder, their only purpose was to slow down any invaders in order to buy more time for the Big Boss. The heroes will reach him either in the nick of time, or just barely too late.

D&D Goblins (5th Ed) have 7 hit points.  Eldritch Blast does 1d10.  Max damage is going to kill a goblin, with some HP left over.  Goblins have always been fairly weak in D&D
