Susan probably has the 6-8 years between freshman orientation & her PhD planned out semester by semester. 

But she has no idea what to do with the 3 months after HS graduation.

No.  Her mother never approved that for her schedule.

In a Q&A Mr d10 said that he might become a profession of film studies to stay relevant.  I'm wondering if he's planing on keeping the store open until Susan quits, then taking the job at the university.  He did say that Susan was an important part of why the store was still open.

Let’s not forget that it’s still only early in March in the story—there are about three months remaining until graduation.

A time skip is due.  While I think it's just going to be from graduation to start of university, it's possible for it to be from "now" to high school graduation
