NP Comic for Tuesday, Oct 8, 2024

Mind boggled.

I thought at first that Dan was Tedd. But, primarily, why does Minion have a ponytail when he does not have hair?

It has been several years since Dan has been represented in the comic.  And previous incarnations have not been consistant.

Dan now resembles Tedd & wants to be Julie Newmar?  Not really a shock.  But how it could play out has potential.

As for Minion?  It may look like a pony tale.  But you are likely better off not knowing exactly what is growing out of that head.

I'm not sure I'm ready for the avatar of the writer of a web comic being a villainess, much less a cat girl one, in that comic.  I mean Pearls Before Swine sorta does it, (with out, to the best of my knowledge being a cat girl)  but I'm not sure Dan is gonna follow that route.

Randy Milholland draws meta-comics of himself in Something Positive, quite a bit lately, but does not yet cross over into appearing in his own cast. It's mostly commentary about how his life is going and/or why a comic is delayed.

Dan has occasionally appeared as an avatar with some of his characters, but not in canon (I think). To that end, Minion would not be a canon character either. But characters in EGS lead a more dynamic existence than many other comics, the commentary people have started appearing in canon, and Pandora was originally a vague threat.

Dan, unlike the other 4th wall breaking artists, changes what his avatar is fairly often.  Squirrel boy, squirrel and curvy girl, Tedd like girl and now it seems cat girl.  Well, sorta often  That works out to about once every 4 or 5 years over the course of the comic.

Dan, as what he then looked like, was a character when Elliot visited the comic shop, right before The Change to Cheerleadra.  Was "super smart guy"

I didn't mistake Dan for Tedd, but I was a bit surprised by his look in this comic. It's been so long since he's appeared in the comic I forgot this was his most recent look. (Interestingly, while he's been using this avatar for a few years for his personal Xitter account, the avatar on his personal account on Tumblr is the earlier curvy Squirrel girl, and the EGS account avatars on both platforms are Susan & Ashley in Easter-colored bunny suits.

In case anyone needs their memory jogged (I sure did), a variation of this form first appeared in Wrong Answers Only. Dan then tweaked it in Assorted 2022 A with an explanation a few strips later (the next strip afterwards talks about people mistaking Dan for Tedd, so apparently that's been an issue from the introduction of this version of the avatar).

Dan should have a strip of all of his avatars showing up in the same place and getting into an argument about which one was the real Dan.  Then have Super Smart Guy show up.

Well, that's a lot, considering others that do the appearing in their comics don't tend to change at all.

Randy Milholland has used different avatars, but not arbitrarily; they made sense in context and were part of the gag, such as appearing as a skeletal version of himself. He has also included his wife and daughter.

Dan's seem to track with a changing or maturing worldview and outlook. Maybe they're a transcat?

We ourselves have a cat, a dog, and whatever you are.

Doing better than me.  I can walk, for fairly long distance, but seldom would it be called "brisk"
