Russia has started their big push in the east.  I wouldn't have thought that they were ready, based on when they pulled their BTG out of the north.  Wouldn't think that they would be rested and reconstituted yet.  Most likely aren't, but they need to have a "victory" before the 9th of May, so they are pushing off now.

Just a random note.  The US army's "World Wide Equipment Guide" has, for the last month and half only had Russian or Ukraine equipment as "new" entries.  Today it's been all People Republic of China stuff.  Not sure what that means, but it means something.

So Disney dared to criticize Florida's "Don't Say Gay" law and Florida revoked Disney's special administrative status

When Walt Disney conceived the Florida Project, he and his enchanted lawyers convinced the Florida Government that it would be in the best interest for all concerned that Disney itself should be in control of what are normally municipal powers in the area that was being developed.  This was not unlike any number of industrial and mining company towns that were much more common in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Was this plan the best idea available?  A convenient means to an end?   Or a long term plan by industry to usurp legitimate government authority?  There are many opinions on that matter . . .

While this plan was passed, there were more than a few who objected to the concept.  But Disney was so well liked by the voters, and provided such a large employment and revenue source for the state that serious changes to it were never enacted

Until Now

By speaking against a law that was was the darling child of a conservative legislature elected by a conservative voting block, the conservative leadership were able to paint Disney as something other than the family friendly business that brought Florida a lot of money but rather as outsider liberal elitists who dare to bite the hand that feeds them

Would the state government have eventually found a way to revoke the special administrative powers of Disney even if it were not for this?  Eventually.

But the fact that this was over a heavy handed political manipulation of issues that had slipped out of the grip of traditional conservative leadership some time ago is particularly disturbing

However, that is not what the government should find concerning

When many business begin, relocate or expand it is not uncommon for a government to offer special considerations to encourage the businesses location choice.  Infrastructure improvements like roads and utilities,  Waivers of certain code and zoning issues.  Or outright tax credits.  The difference these can make to the business can have a significant influence of where and when to build, if at all.

But the composition of legislatures can and does change every few years, and if a business finds itself disagreeing with the current powers that be in the state house, do they need to worry about having their government safety net pulled?  This is at least one serious issue for a business to consider before moving or expanding to Florida

Plus, as I understand it, pulling the plug on Disney's status, this opens up the state to a large amount of debt and payments that Disney has been making.  Something like 2 billion. I'm sure that the tax payers of Florida are going to be _thrilled_ to have to pick up those bills.

What I find amazing about this is the vociferous outrage over laws banning (or any criticism of) behavior that the outraged people assure us never happened and never will.

It does seem a bit odd.  As I understand it "critical race theory" is a university level idea, and isn't taught at the elementary or high school level.   It's not to be confused with teaching about the fact that the US had slaves and that slavery, in general, is bad.

There is a type of kook in America that thinks that people have enough time to read a full rant written on the side of a truck or car.  I'm not quite sure what to make of them.

Yeah, Dr. Frankenstein tried something like that, and it did not turn out so well.

The really dumb and hypocritical thing is that when one of these anti-abortion people wants an abortion, they quietly sweep it under the rug while continuing to scream that abortions are evil.

I feel strangely offended by this. What, we trans people are not good enough to be oppressed?

I think you can safely assume that he had it in for you as well.

Although, would folks in his domain even have access to trans medical technology? Here in the US, we are variegated enough that if you are in an insular community, you can still find the opposition, or you may have to travel, but it's out there. Not so sure about places like Chechnya; or say, Pakistan, or Iran.

We live in interesting times here. Our GOP has a voice and clout disproportionate to their actual reflection of public opinion; not greatly so, but enough to really give it a bad flavor.

I think Israel must go through this a lot. They have some of the most liberal people on the planet, and some of the archest conservatives.

Ah, being trans has nothing to do with medical technology. It helps, but the real issue is your identity and acceptance (or lack thereof.)
