Good use of literally, since it is a feature of a story in a comic.

However, in the commentary, Dan(a) is wrong; they'd make a pretty good boss if courtesy is offered to employees. It can't be shallow and artificial, that does not work; people smell phonies they work for, and the situation quickly becomes adversarial; but genuine appreciation is itself appreciated. 

Not to say this works for every employee, there are folks who walk into a situation with immaturity or a bad attitude, and will need to be replaced. Still, you don't want to be the one who pushes employees into that mode.

Oh I get it. 

In the reality of this story, Albert Einstein was not a cosmologist, unlocking the secrets of the universe.  No. In this reality Albert was a cosmetologist, styling the men's hair of the court in the distinct Einstein look. 

Our "reality" was the big loser in this bargain.

The fact that one of the minions in unsure of whether he has authority says, all by itself, that Prince Elliot needs some leadership lessons.

Just for what it's worth, it's official that in the US Army, an order is an order, even if the officer giving it says “can you please” at the start of it.  I've always assumed that to be the case.

True, however, the point was that if your commanding officer is being polite, it doesn't change that “would you please check the status of the motor pool inspections” is, in fact, an order to check the status of the motor pool inspections and isn't optional.

I know of at least one not-too-bright NCO that got confused by this and had to have it explained in excruciating detail where he was wrong about what is or isn't optional in the army.
