Edward seems to be on board with Bishop's agenda mentioned in the commentary.

I have to agree with Bishop's question in the last panel. How does that even come up?

Edward both understands Grace and is a serious professional with considerable experience with aliens. It remains to be seen whether his willingness to assume the silly subversives are victims will backfire.

Grace could be overpowered, If she was willing to use her abilities.

Of course, he was the director of an imporant, if secret, federal law enforcement agency.  He's gonna think tactically when the time comes for that.
