      Welcome!   03/05/2016

Welcome, everyone, to the new 910CMX Community Forums. I'm still working on getting them running, so things may change.  If you're a 910 Comic creator and need your forum recreated, let me know and I'll get on it right away.  I'll do my best to make this new place as fun as the last one!

Surfing the interwebs.

I've started using LibreWolf as my daily browser. It's based on Firefox and uses Firefox plugins and logins. It's technically slower than Chrome, but unlike Chrome, it starts to render as soon as it has renderable HTML, which, for most sites, makes it faster.

Also, the default search engine is Google with UDM14 automatically applied to the search, so it's AI-free.

One slightly irritating feature is that it's default action on closing is to scrub cookies, which makes logins not last from session to session. That's an easy fix, however.

Do people still say “surfing the internet”?

I have not heard it often in recent years, and I think there's a reason. 'Surfing' applied to media, hints at untargeted viewing. Think of 'channel surfing' where you were looking to see what was on, not looking for a specific show. People used to look on the Internet to see what was available, but people have become used to it, and have an agenda when they spend time on line; they no longer largely 'surf'.

I used to get cranky about people using “the internet” when they meant “the web,” but now port 80/port 443 make up most of the usage of the net.  Even “apps” use them.
