Saou screwed up: ". . . and in ways you believe I would think helpful." vs ". . . and in ways that are actually helpful."

In other words, "Be clear and (at least trivially) honest, but feel free to use my limited perception against me."

Maybe mitigated by "No lying by omission", but it seems like excessive wiggle room to me.

Also, Voltaire partially transformed into a dragon. Killing Ragnarok was less than fully effective?

Saou may not have forced Voltaire into a perfect vow.  But something more important happened.   The finger lickin' good immortal realized Saou is a kindred manipulative spirit and that is something Volty can respect.

As Pandora put it, “Immortals can shapeshift, dummy!”  I suspect that he just went dragon for effect, not that he has any of Ragnarok's powers “left over.”

And bored Immortals do enjoy an opponent who is challenging yet still inferior. Voltaire wants to win, but he doesn’t want it to be trivially easy.
