Just had a very close lightning strike, a subsecond flash to bang time, rattled the windows.  Explorer went from being on the desk, sort of in the way of me using the mouse, to under the bed in 3 seconds flat. I didn't hear the hiss of the leader, so it wasn't super close, but close enough.  I'll bet another tree on the walking trail took a hit.

There is a truly mungus storm front rolling in.  It's on the edge of town, and my right knee feels almost as bad as when I had arthritis in it.  Going to finish my mug of tea, then keep it straight, possibly for 24 hours, apart from for food and bathroom breaks.

It is going to get smegging cold in the DFW area tomorrow night (Friday, Jan. 23, 2026) and stay that way through Monday morning. They're talking single-digit temps and sleet/snow.

Much fun.

I know this is normal for you frozen north types, but remember I spent most of my life in the warm parts of the US and the warmer (if wetter) parts of Germany.

It's forecast to stop raining about 30 minutes from now and not start up again until 4ish.  Radar shows that this band of the front will be over town soon, but there are big bands coming.  My knees are telling me that the rain will return.

It's forecast to hit high 70s low 80s today.  Sunday night it's gonna be cold enough that I'll need to turn on the water taps to prevent freezing.  Ah, spring on the great plains.

We had snow this afternoon.

The massive amount of rain forecast (up to 2 inches (ca. 5 cm)) for this afternoon has dropped to “it might rain for 15 minutes after 3:15 or so.” My knees still aren't happy, but that's normal after a front passes, at least for a few hours. Next rain forecasted is on Sunday, where it's forecast to rain from 7:00 AM to about 8:00 PM, which is what today was supposed to be like. Take it as it comes.

The 2nd band of the front is here. Forecast to rain until 7ish tonight. My knees are telling me that this might be a long one.

My phone just went off with a tornado warning.  Not much I can do, so Explorer and I will stay in bed.

A strong thunderstorm is going on now. Oddly this front didn't make my knees hurt. Also Explorer is on the bedroom desk, looing out the window at the rain. Not doing her normal “hang out with The Human” thing she does when there is a thunderstorm. All in all, a strange storm. Forecast to be going on for 2 more hours. The national weather service issued a thunderstorm advisory that expired an hour or so ago. It didn't rain while the alert was in effect. This has been a very strange storm.

Only a ~22% chance of rain today is forecast. My knees are telling me otherwise. Off to keep them flat for a few hours.

Small City, Kansas, is on the northeastern  edge of a honking big front.  Right knee decided to tell me about it.  Keeping it flat for several hours.  Forecast says it's due to stop raining/storming at 3:00 PM.  That seems optimistic given the depth of the front, and that assumes it's going east.
Meh, take drugs as needed; take it as it comes.
Glad I got my walk done when I did.

It's noon on the 1st Wednesday of the month. The city is testing the storm sirens. I'm glad that in my current place I can hear them clearly, unlike my last two places. Of course I have even fewer places to hide here, but it's a cinder block building, so it's a little less likely to blow away in the wind.
