Before that happens, can someone tell me how you're actually supposed to say "corpsman", because just reading it I'd say it the same way Obama did.
"Core-man". The "Corps" is pronounced "Core" (like in the Marine Corps), not "Corpse" (like a dead body... which is not any sort of slam on the Democrats...)

That and, if it was Bush that had messed up pronouncing this word, people probably would have been on every news channel and talk show citing it as evidence for how dumb he is.

People ragged on Bush for his mispronunciations because he did it a lot. It's something to grab onto and make fun of. There's a long history of that in the US. They're called caricatures.

To be fair, most of the "Bushisms" that made it as talk show fodder were not misspeaks of specific words, but grammatical errors ("Families is where our nation finds hope, where wings take dream."), social faux pas ("Too many OB/GYNs aren't getting to practice their love..."), or amusing juxtapositions taken out of context ("I believe that man and fish can coexist peacefully").That and, if it was Bush that had messed up pronouncing this word, people probably would have been on every news channel and talk show citing it as evidence for how dumb he is.

Ohhhh, Lilly, be careful. :< That's bait for turning this thread political and possibly getting it locked. I can hear DDT and Hawkeye yelling at each other already...
The topic is 'fun things we find on the net'. I found this on the net and I think it's fun. So here we are.
You, on the other hand, chose to reply to it only to express dissent and call out two forum members before they even said anything... soooo...

And, Azzy, you're partially right. It wasn't just that Bush misspoke, but the almost sadistic glee that the mass media has when going after conservatives.
People are still bringing up the Dan Quayle (a fellow Hoosier, mind you...) "Potatoe" incident. However, as I like to give the rest of the story, remember that the "Extra E" that Quayle dinged the Spelling Bee contestant on was from the cards being read by him given to him by the teachers running the thing.
But rather than lambasting the pathetic school system that would make that mistake, let's go after the "Dumb Young Hick Vice President That Nobody Likes Anyway." A stereotype they tried to label G.W. Bush with as well (minus the "Vice" in the title, but they tried to do that elsewhere).
Back when i was in radio, we had someone who was a "rip and read" news broadcaster. That means they would go in, rip the stuff off the teletype (back when we used teletypes...) from UPI/AP and read it straight. The problem was when some stuff didn't come with phonetic pronunciations on foreign words. Those would be mangled. (Something similar was played up with WKRP's Les Nesman, where he pronounced golfer Chi Chi Rodriguez's name as "Ch-eye Ch-eye Rod-ree-gueese").
Obama isn't the great orator that people claim he was. I can give Bill Clinton that -- Clinton could give a speech. Bush could too. Despite his gaffs and malapropisms, he spoke from the heart, which always adds power to your speech.
We don't see that from Obama. Take away the teleprompter and he's even more fumblemouthed than Bush at his worst.
And now we're seeing that even with the teleprompter he isn't that great.

Okay, you know what? I've had it with you, Lilly. I was only trying to make an observation based on past experiences I've had with this forum, and phrased it in the most respectful way I could come up with. And for the millionth time in a row, you answered back with sarcasm. Thom's response to my second post on the matter, while I don't agree with it, was phrased in a polite manner that I would expect out of a forum administrator. But when it comes to politics, it seems like whenever somebody contradicts you, your "debate" tactic is to treat them like somebody even younger than you and make them look like an idiot so that whatever they have to say will be invalidated. This is the exact kind of ad hominem attack I warned about in the very post you responded to, and it runs rampant whenever political tensions run high. (Yes, I realize that statement is hypocritical, you don't need to point it out. I'm pissed off right now, so let me have my rant. Then you can get in the last word. Hell, you could ban me right now and I wouldn't give a [censored].)The topic is 'fun things we find on the net'. I found this on the net and I think it's fun. So here we are.

The reason I expressed dissent was not to pick a fight with you. As a matter of fact, I got a little chuckle out of the misspeak myself. I probably should have made this clear in my first post, but what I was warning against was your use of the acronym "TOTUS." That's a blatant Tea Party-ism, and could be seen as trolling for responses from anybody who still supports the President. That and the fact that you found this random clip funny enough to post here suggests that you wear your political viewpoints on your sleeve, which is an invitation for an argument along a similar vein to start. Even I was the voice of reason at one point and believed that political discussion threads could exist peacefully, but as time has marched on, I've noticed people on this forum becoming more angry, paranoid, and polarized than ever. That is why I felt I should say something, not because I'm trying to play junior mod.
Giant In The Playground has declared a ban on political discussions. Maybe this forum should do the same, since tempers appear to flare here in response to even the most mundane of cautionary statements.
In short: I didn't ask for snark, so don't give it to me. I'm sick of you treating me like [censored by Thom] every time I say anything to you.

Then I beg you all... do not go here.
Don't say I didn't warn you...

Thank you. I mean that. You just can't tell because the 'net doesn't let me have a voice. That was wonderful.

Azzy, I apologize, but I found your statement (the response to the video I posted) to be quite condescending, itself. And again, your mentioning two particular forumers before they had even posted anything in response to it seems more likely to invite protest.
This is not the first 'politically' oriented 'fun thing' to be posted in this thread. Heck, I've seen far milder material and statements being made about religious deities around these parts. But we're not gonna ban those types of post for the same reason we won't be banning posts involving politics.
Do you know WHY it seems like political discussions are so 'awful' to some people around here? Because this place, on a whole, is so nice and tame. At least relative to most places you'll find that are like it. Yeah, tempers can run high, but that doesn't mean the discussions should be stopped altogether. Our community, for the most part, is better than that. And if you don't like the discussions you don't have to take part in them or even look at them. And that is not meant to sound rude or snarky... I truly mean it. If a discussion bothers you, you can let a mod, super mod, or admin know. But you have to understand that just because it makes you and a few others uncomfortable it doesn't mean we're going to 'ban' it.
And I won't ban you for this, Azzy (nor will anyone else). Because that's also not how we do things here. You have a right to express your opinions same as anyone else around here... but hey, that includes admins like Thom and myself.
Also.... really? TOTUS has already been used? And I thought I could claim coinage... ^^;

This day, HS's quote about incest was edged out when Lilly declared that she would be the one to ban Azzy, and no one else.
