No idea how much of this is tax. Regardless, I have a picture in my mind of Mrs. Prof arguing with the service manager over repairs that weren't quoted on the sheet when she took it in. It's not a pretty picture.

Probably the extra expense is due to the Commander leading Pioneers across the Ridgeline to complete a Probe.

I called Mrs. Prof. No steam from the ears. She had a few confusing moments trying to find someone to help her get the truck back, but there were no, "Oh, and we found this, too," moments. Must have been tax, because she sounded pleasant enough. Phew!

Mrs. Prof had the version of CCleaner that everyone is freaked out about. Her system is now doing strange things, like popping up with a UAC request while she's typing a response during a Facebook session. I've scanned, double-scanned, and triple-scanned, yet I can't find the source of the problem, even after uninstalling CCleaner. If the weirdness continues, I'm going to have to reset her system with a clean version of Windows.

Uh oh.  Um, what's going on with CCleaner?  I was off today and spent the day reading and petting cats....

Do a news search on Google for it. Mrs. Prof got hit.

The mayor of the city of Garland, TX has resigned, just last night. He resigned over the decision of the city council to tear down an old armory and build a skate part / dog park in its place. Claimed it was against the will of the people of the city.

What worries me is that Mrs. Prof claims he was a TNR supporter. The Mayor Pro Tem will fill in until the next regular election, which happens in May 2018. No clue where he stands on TNR.

The possibility of losing all my files.

I keep my files on a flash drive. Since my laptop charger stopped working, the only place to actually access the files is on the family's shared computer, and even though I have a separate profile there, I haven't copied my files to the computer (for security or memory purposes I couldn't say; they download a lot of games on the main profile but I'm kinda paranoid about people poking through my files, so...both?).

The other day I was using my flash drive. Just typing some story stuff, ya know? Then the computer bluescreens and reboots. I open my profile again, it checks the drive as part of standart boot-up procedures, and it's like "Device may be damaged. Scan and fix? Y/N" or something like that. Standard stuff; I'd seen that prompt for a different flash drive on my laptop, so I know it's okay. I said "sure". I don't want my stuff damaged. It does the scan and says "no problems detected". I go back to what I was doing. Then when I'm done, I close everything, click "eject drive" so it's safe to remove it, wait for it to say it's safe to remove it, and then remove it. Don't wanna corrupt files by being hasty.

Cut to today, I plug the flash drive in to get to my résumé and references for a job application. Doesn't recognize that the flash drive is plugged in. The flash drive has an orange light that lights up if it's in use. Didn't turn on. I try my profile, I try the main profile, I even try my brother's computer. Nope.

So now I have three options, in increasing order of unacceptable-ness: either ask Google for help, take it to Best Buy or Fry's and hope they can figure it out, or lose everything.

I'm <understatement>just a little bit upset</understatement> at the idea.

[Edit] Okay, I tried a couple of Google solutions. Checking diskmgmt.msc and devmgmt.msc doesn't turn up anything. Using the command prompt to look for drives doesn't turn up anything. Downloading and using the EaseUS data recovery program didn't turn up anything. As far as the computer is concerned, I didn't plug anything in at all. Other flash drives work fine. I suppose the next step is asking Best Buy for a more informed (and expensive) answer.

My résumé, my stories and notes, my Minecraft saves, my backlog of EGS strip slays, other things of varying importance... Not even 8 gigs worth of stuff, but it's my stuff.

In a recent NP thread, I made a joke about the puppified Rhoda partying at the Kennel Club.  And then I mentioned Dog Racing.

I am worried that someone reading that might think I was a fan or supporter of Greyhound Racing.

In our world, Dog Racing as an organized gambling industry shows signs of dying.  Many dog tracks now actually make their money off the Para mutual horses OTB, video slots, and poker rooms.  But various state regulations can't let them simply become casinos, so they need to keep up the pretense of racing.

There has got to be a better way.

Don't be ridiculous. We all know that your heart belongs to the Tournament Crocodile-Assisted Nile-Crossing Speed Swimming competition. The crocodiles provide motivation to swim faster.

Spread the popularity of Jai Alai! Why is it not an Olympic sport?

Mrs. Prof has been in need of a new car for a long time. Car buying time may be upon us now. We've found a 2014 Subaru Outback with around 26,000 miles on it for $20,500 or so. Consumer Reports says it's a good model year for that price range. I'm worried that someone is going to snap up the car before we get a chance to test drive it. I'm also worried about her judgement, since I have zero car skills and since I absolutely can't drive due to my medications.

USING THE FORUM.

As in, nobody is, with the exception of the occasional drive-by.  Why is that?

Once, someone said it's because the forum had become a place to talk about yourself. I say do it! I want to see what my fellow forum denizens are doing, feeling, and thinking.

This is a place for silliness as well. Have we lost our spark? Our drive? Our mambo dogface to the banana patch? Come on! Get those verbal happy feet moving again!

Use the forum, for "Bob"'s sake! It's what using is for!

Look, I've been low on ammo and I insist on making my drive-bys totally over the top with bullets going everywhere and not an intact window left in the whole block near my target. If I can't do that, it just isn't worth it.

I'm worried that some people are improperly using this forum. :demonicduck:

I too have noticed that there have been no attempts to summon elder gods, demonstrate secret government conspiracies in weather control, or reveal forbidden chili recipes over the last few months.

What is wrong with you people?

Can I blame recent weather patterns on MLooney's old dishwasher? That alone should cover the first three.

....Yes, the dishwasher also giving out forbidden chili recipes.... I'm tired...

I'm worried that over the course of the next month my sleep cycle is going to get all messed up, given my plan on watching the Olympics live as much as possible.  Starts tonight at 10:00 PM.  Curling and Alpine Skiing.

The last time Olympic Games were held in Korea, almost nothing was broadcast live in the US.
But that was before NBC learned how to use a whole lotta cable channels to spread out commentary and commercials.

On a slightly related matter, does anyone else think Biathlon style shooting should be a part of freestyle skiing, ski jumping, and/or figure skating?

Only if it's done with brightly colored paintballs!

No. Clearly it should be part of curling, ice hockey and bobsleigh.

They have an app that streams most things live, with minimal commentary and fluff.
