Perhaps not, as long as it doesn't take ten years to finish a freakin' story arc!!
Nothing wrong with doing it non-sequentially, either.

Every time Dan ties a loose end the remaining plot threads magically multiply so I'm good with him leaving quite a few threads loose for the time being.
True, that. Even so, I still wish he'd take care of some of them. Nothing wrong with taking care of story arcs in a sequential manner.

The Pompoms are rich NOW. This may not have been the case 16-18 years ago. Also, there may have been other reasons for only adopting Susan and not Diane as well. I did say 'for whatever reason'; that could mean logistical reasons as well as financial ones. One reader stated that Diane could have been adopted first, and only Susan was left. Wealth and riches are a moot point when only one of the twins remains to be adopted.
I deeply discount this theory because the Pompoms are rich, not just well-off but genuinely rich. Why would they adopt one girl knowing there's a twin sister? I'll bet anything that Mrs. Pompoms had a nanny help raise Susan as a child and giving a nanny a second baby to watch would just cost a little more.
2) Mr. Pompoms himself may be the biological father. Mr. Pompoms and the blonde woman had an affair long ago--extramarital or otherwise, the product of which was Susan and Diane. Due to whatever strife/problems existed at the time, the bio mom had to give her daughters up for adoption, and the affair was broken off between them. Mr. Pompoms either was married at the time, or became married shortly thereafter, to Mrs. Pompoms, who then adopted Susan (for whatever reason, they couldn't adopt both). The desire between Mr. Pompoms and the biological mother never really subsided, and what Susan recollects is the attempt of the two to rekindle their illicit affair (with no knowledge that the blonde woman may have been her real mother).
I'm sure Dan will disclose the details (eventually). I just hope it's sooner rather than later. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I think he needs to start tying up all these loose ends.

The wrench in that particular idea is that we've got no good data either way about who the other woman was. As I've said before, birth records get sealed. The birth parents will know the adoptive parents, but not vice versa, unless the birth parent(s) come forward of their own volition.
So Susan would find out that she's adopted, her adopted father was cheating on her adopted mother with her biological mother, she has a twin sister that has been living in the same town for at least several years, and said twin is falling for the same guy she is. This could very easily shape up to be the most soap opera-esque storyline in the comic so far.
Now, that could be what happened. But if it was the case, I don't think Susan's birth mother would be stepping forward to bone Mr. Pompoms. She'd be stepping forward to try to reconnect with her daughters. So why is that not part of what happened? Why does Susan remember that incident vividly, but doesn't have "she was my birth mother!" burned into her brain as well? That'd be a double whammy of pain, there.
It's an interesting idea, but the connection is a bit too tenuous for me at this point unless we get a "what a twist!" moment and it is revealed that she did know, but kept it secret for whatever reason.
Remember the strips after Grace's TG bithday party, where Susan had turned back to blonde, and was admiring herself in the mirror: http://egscomics.com/?date=2007-02-23 The implication is that she had seen "the other woman" in her own reflection. Suppose it isn't so far off the mark? I can think of a couple very plausible scenarios for the cheating woman being the biological mother of Susan and Diane:
1) Mr. Pompoms decided to keep the biological mother informed of her daughters' progress and well-being (at least Susan's), with or without the blessing of Mrs. Pompoms. An affair developed between the two of them, and that is what we saw through Susan's flashbacks.
Not to sound too farfetched, but we know almost nothing of Agent Cranium's backstory, or Agent Wolf's, for that matter; only that the two are romantically involved. Agent Cranium is depicted with long, blonde hair, tied back in a ponytail. Agent Wolf's hair is not blonde, and neither is Mr. Pompoms'. Also 'Cranium' and 'Wolf' are code names, not real names. It would be interesting to find out their backstories and to see if there's any connection to Susan and Diane.

I've followed this comic for quite a few years now. I like it quite a bit, especially the improvement on the artwork, but the one thing about it which has really irritated me is the VAST number of loose ends throughout it, e.g. the Susan/Diane thing, the mystery of Tedd's mom, the mystery of Alpha (Lord) Tedd and Beta Tedd, whether the blonde woman with whom Susan's father was cheating might actually be her real mother (not to mention who that couple actually may be), Ellen's situation with Nioi/Kaoli and that alternate reality, the whole thing with Magus (sp.), Pandora, and the body snatcher, the backstory involving Adrian Raven and Tedd's parents, not to mention whether we've seen the last of Grace's "siblings", et cetera ad nauseum. It just seems like there's a lot of irons in the fire here, too many unfinished threads, and that it would be a better way of making things flow if one can of worms were dealt with at a time before opening another.
As for this current discussion, it would probably be easier to convince Susan that she has a twin. Diane doesn't seem to be the listening type.
